Hi,
I just joined this group yesterday and now completed day 1 of the 14 day challenge. I'm trying to build healthier eating and exercising into my daily routine so it eventually becomes automatic. I want to loose about 10 lbs. and tone up my muscles. It's been a bit of a struggle since I passed the age 30 mark. Thanks for this new challenge!

Day 14!!!! This is our last day ladies!

Today's Challange is to squeeze in an extra 15 minutes of exercise somewhere. This could be extending a walk by 15 minutes, doing 15 minutes of housework or yardwork, getting off the bus 15 minutes before work and walking the rest of the way, etc.

Today is Bike to Work Day in Denver so I'm biking the last 15 minutes of my commute (45 minutes on the bus/15 minutes bike).

Thanks for the suggestion Becca. I agree 100%! This was my first challenge and half way through I realized the same thing. Lessons learned so far are to put a different post for each day and to shorten the challenge to 7 days :)

One of my favorite quick recipes is fried rice. It is a super quick recipe and makes enough for 2 servings. 1 serving = approximately 1-1/4 cup.

1 cup quick cook brown rice
1 cup frozen vegetables
2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
2 eggs

Cook the rice according to the package and put aside.
Cook the frozen vegetables according to the package and put aside.
Scramble 2 eggs in a large skillet. Remove the eggs from the skillet and put aside. Dump the cooked vegetables with 2 tbsp soy sauce into the skillet and sauté for a few minutes until the vegetables start to get crunchy. Then add the rice and eggs to the skillet for a few more minutes.

14 Day Challenge - Day 8
We're over half way there and today will be a tough one! I will admit, I failed miserably yesterday and ate quite a bit of processed junk. But today is a new day and I'm going to meet this challenge.

Push up day!!!! Push ups are really difficult so if you need to go to your knees there is no shame!!! See how many push ups you can do in one minute. Good luck!

If you look in the Spark video section, there is a 10 minute Jump Rope cardio video. And its more than just jumping up and down. It has different leg moves to make it more of a workout. And its really good. I've done it a few times before.

today is my shopping day so I will try the new recipe tonight it is funny because yesterday I dusted off my jump-rope and tried to jump for 10 min. Today my calves are sore. Good workout. What a fun challenge. Good Luck!

14 Day Challenge - Day 6

Jump rope day!!! Jumping rope burns a ton of calories and it is something you can do with very minimal (or no) equipment. If you have a rope, great! If not, just move your arms like you are holding a rope and jump without. The task is to jump rope for 10 minutes. If it gets too tough, take a moment and catch your breath and get back to it when you can. When you are finished, track your fitness minutes on SparkPeople (browse under Cardio, Other Exercises). This challenge will show you how you can burn a lot of calories in a short period of time.

Awesome job everyone!!!!! I'm having so much fun with these challenges!

We tried Spinach Pasta with Basil Cilantro Pesto and Artichokes from The Veganomicon Cookbook. It sounds VERY fancy and difficult, but it was actually a very simple recipe which took very little prep/cooking time :) It was awesome and we will definitely make it again!!!

I modified it to suit what I had on hand, and seasoned the chicken with a little olive oil and poultry seasoning. Delicious, light summer dinner! Yum!

I didn't make a "new" recipe, but I did make my yummy homemade spaghetti sauce. I did add some onion, which sometimes I don't. I also put in fresh oregano and thyme from my garden. One of my favorites.

So I have essentially combined a couple challenges today! I put the kale I bought for the day 2 challenge (new fruit or veggie) and I tried a new recipe with it and made a smoothie. With just a little honey for a touch of added sweetness it was great!

Tracked all of my food yesterday and did pretty good though was a little high on fat, otherwise stayed in range with everything else! Got in the stretching video yesterday too. I still need to do today's challenge and I bought some kale I plan to try later today in a smoothie, so that will satisfy the day 2 challenge!

I went over by 48 calories today but was within range for carbs, fat, and protein. I would have been perfect but I stumbled upon some dark chocolate blueberries and just couldn't help myself!! emoticon

Track everything you eat and drink today. Some people are already really good at food tracking, others not so good. Today let's work really hard and use the SparkPeople food tracker! At the end of the day post whether you met your goals for calories, protein, fat and carbs. Doing a spot check may help us find places to make some improvements.

I like this challenge. So far the things have been fairly easy and quick. Jumping jacks were easy and the stretching too. I tried to get up the nerve to have some tomatoes on a salad, but I have never liked raw tomato, so I didn't do the day 2 challenge.

Today's challenge task is the Lower Body Stretching Routine video right here on SparkPeople. It's only 3-1/2 minutes and you don't need a mat, you could use a towel or just do the exercises on carpet. Let's try it!

My fruit was pineapple. I know, I know, not exciting at all!!! But let me clarify! I always buy pre-cut or canned pineapple, I've never actually purchased a whole fruit. So today I bought a pineapple at the store and had zero clue how to pick a "good" one! So one was randomly chosen and then I got home and had no clue how to cut it!! Finally my husband just hacked into it and it was perfect and delicious :)

Hi, I joined months ago and then forgot about sparkpeople when my husband was in Iraq. He is home and I am determined to get back on track.I am reading the Spark and really learning a lot about myself. I bought some cherry tomatoes at the store yesterday. I have normal tomatoes but forgot how great cherry ones can be. Good luck on the challenge.

Eat a fruit or vegetable today which isn't in your regular food rotation. We tend to eat a lot of the same foods and we're missing out on some great fruits and vegetables. Adding variety keeps things interesting and new, so let's give it a shot!
