I agree with some of you, do no harm, also applies to your body, don't harm it by not moving, not eating correctly, etc. Live a healthy lifestyle and reap the awards!

Its basically Sparkpeople in a book and more. I read more of Chris Downie's story and some of the back philosopy of Spark. They talk a little about the program later in the book. If you want an introduction to the book, check out the article in the February GoodHousekeeping. Its basically a condensed some of the stuff in the book.

I have not bought the book yet. Is it really different from other diet books? What is it about?

Spark might be perfect for your friend. Spread the Spark is one of the things I like about Spark. Spreading the Spark as a diet step, sets it apart from any other diet site I've been a part. Not sure what influenced Chris Downie (Sparkguy), but its very Wesleyian and very Christian for Spread the Spark.

You might want to encourage your friend to read The Spark Book.

I have a dear friend who was diagnosed with a disorder that many do not understand. She finds it difficult to give back because of some preconcieved notions, hers, her doctos and the community.

Her Christian heart is prompting her to find a way to set a good example. I am trying to lure her to Sparkpeople and to join a team with others with the same issue.

Doing "no harm" I think also means to not pre-judge people till you have walked in their footsteps.

Absolutely! I have discovered that by eating healthier, I feel better, and my spirit is raised. I had only an inkling that eating chips, eating twice, three times the serving portion, sitting around watching tv ~~ all adding to my tendency to be "blue" during these sunless winter months, was doing harm!

That would apply to the cookies and pizza I ate for dinner and am now paying for at 2:30 AM. Do no harm to our bodies when we eat.

It seems to me we also need to learn how to apply these "three little rules" to ourselves. Learning to live, to think, and to act in ways which "do no harm" to ourselves.

What is so great too is that it is a 600 member congregation, large for our part of the country. Each week we are looking to perform some act of outreach: maybe serving the poor, visiting the hospitalized, sending a greeting card to a homebound individual. There is an Apostles Build through Habitat for Humanity that the church will be part of later this year. I am eager to see what God will do through this study for me personally and for our congregation as a faith community.

That is really neat. We did Three Simple Rules last year. But, I love the concept and never tire of them. It will be fun to hear from you what you learn as you journey through the Three Simple Rules.

During Lent, our entire congregation is in the theme of Wesley's Three Simple Rules: do no harm, do good, and stay in love with God. Not only will the Sunday worship messages encompass these rules, but also our mid-week Lenten communion services, our Sunday school at all ages (children, youth and adult), classes studying the Three Simple Rules during the week, and a Retreat set for the end of this month. I look forward to hearing what is being shared through this thread.

I need to work harder on being nicer to my husband. Afterall, he is the person who hangs in there with me through thick and thin.

"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others." Phil. 2:3,4

As Bishop Job put it, "To no harm means that I will be on guard so that all my actions and even my silence will not add injury to another of God's children."

Sometimes, I'm accused to being too nice, especially by one of my coworkers. I've decided that its okay. I like to think of it as kindness and gentleness which are Fruits of the Spirit.

How do we live as "Methodist Christians?" Discipleship is a key component of Christian life. John Wesley created his "General Rules" to guide him as he strove to grow closer to God. The first of those rules is: "Do no harm."

How do you apply this in your life?
