Something new I tried: I climbed up on my children's trampoline and jumped for 1 minute. It really got my heart pumping! I'm going to try to do this daily, and work up to longer/more often.

As long as you don't quit, you haven't failed.

I tried Swai fish today. Only 70 calories per fillet. Added a little salt free seasoning and it was really good. I will definitely have it again.

I went off hiking by myself - my partner has had to stop coming, she's waiting for a hip opp, and even short walks are too much just now and todays was not a short walk I did just over 10 miles. I was a good walk over all, just lonely and not the same on my own emoticon

Today I found myself with some time between connecting buses and, since it was so cold, I marched in place, did some squats and some forward lunges. I stayed warm and got in my exercise for the day. I think I even walked in place for about 7 minutes.

I did some new exercises this morning. (The back extender and modified pushups.) And I can't wait to try the core workout in a chair that was sent by email today. It looks relatively easy and my core needs a lot of work.

I slept with a "snore guard" thingy last night.....

.....and i am stunned by how amazing I feel this morning.

No "foggy" brain.

No "can't wake up" moments.

I feel really good and energized.

Thankful to know what amazing sleep feels like!!!

Something new that I tried today was journaling on sparkpeople. I usually start writing my journal on paper then lose it in the mess. It all turns into chaos. Not this time. Not today. I decided I can be kind or mean in 2013. I choose to be kind to me. Journaled. felt better and not paper mess to keep track of. I might get the hang of this computer stuff yet. Have a great New Years day!

Justllama, that's cool (literally) about the "banana freeze." My sister taught me that just a few weeks ago and it was good! I'd never thought to do that before. Also a great way to use bananas that are getting old. I also remember my mom putting grapes in the freezer for a snack when I was growing up. (I grew up in Miami, Florida - broiling hot - so lots of things ended up in the freezer. My pillow, on some nights before bedtime!) Haven't tried the frozen grapes recently but I think I liked it as a kid.

My new thing for this week is that I joined a fitness class at the pool and I am loving it!! Can't wait to go back next week.

Banana "ice cream" (freeze a banana, run it through the food processor until it turns creamy). Not too shabby! Definitely takes the edge off an ice cream craving.

I made oven baked empanadas with whole wheat pastry. Turned out well, and an interesting way to finish off the pot roast I'd made earlier in the week. My kids had fun rolling out the dough, although the helpers weren't interested in actually eating them! In case you're interested: 1c white flour, 1c wheat flour, 1/2c Crisco shortening (NOT exactly a healthy option) 1teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder. Form dough, roll into about 6 inch circles, fill with filling, fold circle across filling and crimp edges. I sprayed the pan with PAM before, sprayed the completed empanadas with PAM after. Baked at 400 degrees 20-25 minutes until lightly browned. Filling can be anything! Spark's crock pot salsa chicken would be great, or cut up fruit like apples, peaches, mango, pears?

Today I am trying to modify by diet by adding more vegetables. I have hit a plateau and I believe it is because I am not eating enough calories. I am trying to adjust my caloric intake up, without adding on additional pounds. If anyone has some suggestions for this type 2 diabetic, I'll take them!

I tried something new yesterday and although I am feeling it today, that is probably not a bad thing. I did five squats every time I had to get up from my desk at work, by the end of the day I had done 125. I think I am going to try to keep up with this at least a few times a week. Of course today I think I would be hard pressed to get them in as I am feeling it. Just an idea.

Admittedly I haven't made the best choices when it comes to lunch. I grab fast food of some kind & race back to the office. Today I tried the Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad at McDonald's. It was surprisingly good, concidering I don't like Southwest style foods. I even tried the Southwest dressing which didnt sound good to me, but again, pleasantly surprised. The calories were significantly lower than what I normally eat, so Yeah Me!

I am making it a goal to start bringing my lunch at least 3 times a week. I need at least 2 days that I can escape the office for a while.

I have lost 3 pounds. I haven't been able to go for my walks because I have been having a problem with my bad foot. As soon as it starts getting better a bit more, I am going to start back up again.
