Bought a pair of used hockey skates tonight - will pay for themselves after 9 sessions without renting skates, and hopefully that is less than a month!

It was another wet ride today, but I put air in my tires so it wasn't quite so terrible. Cold and wet, but not so terrible!

We really have jumped into this challenge and looked for totally new things to try, haven't we. What a fun group of women.

Wow, a boxing class? That sounds really interesting! Let us know how it's going!

I biked to town yesterday, and it was the most miserable ride I've ever had. I felt weak and like I was slogging through mud the whole time.

Naturally, I'm doing it again today. Right now I'm trying to get up the gumption to go!

I haven't found self defense classes per say. I found a one night class that I am going to sign up for and I've signed up for boxing classes. Super excited!

Wow, there are some great challenge ideas here! I am impressed with 60 pushups--I think I can do about 3! And self-defense classes are awesome.

I'm not surprised that the skating instructor is changing everything you do naturally. I know that if I had a swimming instructor he would change everything I'm doing in the pool!

No yoga yet--we've been so busy that all my nice veggies from our CSA are still in the fridge because I haven't had time to cook. We pick up again tomorrow, and I will be cooking up a storm in the coming week!

I did get a Spark Tracker. It arrived yesterday, and motivated me to actually take the walk all the way to the lake this morning, 5 miles round trip, instead of just walking the pooch around the block. I am such a geek--motivated by points and awards that really have no actual meaning, but they make me happy!

Self defense class sounds great.

I like the 100 pushups challenge - I will envy your success - I've started and not quite finished over and over...

Great idea! I am a bit of a Tolkien geek so I am super excited about the next Hobbit. I am trying to decide on what I want to try. I have recently started lifting and trying to up my strength. I have a goal of 100 push-ups by Dec 15. I am up to 60.

Love the ideas, and the very idea of the challenge. Have never seen a Hobbit movie so that could be one of my new things. I am going to give it some thought and try to come up with a good winter physical challenge though. I want to take a self defense class so that's what I'm looking into first.

Geez, HILLSLUG, if you just weren't so adventurous ALL the time...

I love the decorated bicycles idea.

Had my first skating lesson yesterday. An awful lot of what the instructor told me to do is exactly opposite what my body does instinctively (and I find him holding my hand more disconcerting than just recovering my balance on my own - I never fall during my rare free skates) but that's why I'm taking lessons. Hopefully he can break me of my bad habits and help me develop some good fundamentals.

I like the challenge idea. I've been pondering if there's anything I want to do that would match this challenge. Thus far, I've come up blank. I love my rut. emoticon

My challenge will be staying up until midnight!! I can hardly hit the 10:00 mark any more. My challenge this month is the keep riding my bike. I've never ridden outside this late in the season. Did a 40 miler yesterday in the 40 degree weather. We got rained on, but I was prepared. Today I am doing 30 but it looks clear. Found a biking group through meetup.com that bikes year round. We even have a Christmas ride planned where we are going to decorate our bikes!

Love that you've taken on something that sort of intimidates you, MISSG. Nothing makes me feel so powerful as facing down one of my irrational fears. Enjoy your yoga stretches! emoticon

This challenge totally inspired me. I have my first learn to skate class tomorrow afternoon and am signed up for an adult beginners hockey program that starts January 3rd (for which the learn to skate classes are a pre-requisite). I can't wait. And this may solve my problem of becoming a slug in the winter, 'cause I don't like to run and bike so much once the roads and sidewalks get icy. Skating should help maintain my base over the winter, and it looks like so much fun!

I love midnight showings because there is so much energy in the audience. But with the way this year has been going, I think we will probably only manage to see it Friday evening.

HillSlug, I know the movies aren't for everyone, but the idea of trying something new seemed like a good early winter challenge.

For me, I'm going to finally try yoga. I keep hearing good things about it, but I am terribly inflexible and intimidated by it. That's just the kind of discomfort that I encourage people to try and overcome. I'll let you know how it goes!

We don't do that only because the Hubs is really bad at planning ahead.

I'm not excited about another Hobbit movie, but I'll end up watching it in a movie theater because doing so is good for my marriage.

Oh, I love this challenge. What I really want to do is find someplace that offers newbie hockey for adults, 'cause I watched my first hockey games this past spring and it looks fun (and a little brutal, but I played rugby after I got too big to play red rover, so that works for me). Not sure I'll be able to find anything of the sort in my small city, so my backup plan is contra dancing. One or the other by the time I leave town for Christmas.

It's getting cold, and no one seems too excited about the bike challenge. How about a challenge that doesn't actually involve bikes?

We are just 4 weeks away from the second installment of The Hobbit! Who else is excited?!

In celebration of that momentous event, a small challenge. Bilbo Baggins had to face new challenges and stretch himself in order to face down the dragon, so this month's challenge it to try something new: a new exercise, a new recipe, a new hobby. It's awesome if that something new is something you've thought about trying but haven't gotten up the courage yet, but it can also just be something fun. Never played laser tag or paintball? Get some friends together and give it a try! Never made creme brulee? Find yourself a blowtorch! Never tried pottery? Go make your first lumpy bowl!

Let's all try and grow a little this month!
