Anita, I hope your ride was wonderful! I've actually been on my bike 4 times in October already. Which, considering what September was, is pretty awesome.

Now, though, I am going into my annual large contract project (known around here as the Project of Doom), which eats ENORMOUS amounts of time this month and next. I have to work on scheduling fitness into that time.

Rode 12 miles with a friend today, though! Now I have to stop procrastinating and really get to work. I have about 7 hours of work I have to do today, and NO motivation.

Miss G Glad you where able to get a ride in.. woohoo

Well, I will be doing my last long ride of the year this Saturday.. its the Trek Breast Cancer ride will be doing 50 miles.. I have rode this for the past 3 years.. love it.. hate to think it might be my last ride but maybe my last long ride.. and I can keep up my rides around my neighborhood.

The Ride for missing children was great could not finish the 100 because at the 65 mile mark I caught a bad cramp then hurt my foot when I took it out of my peddle cage.. I was so upset but that has past.. and I know that I will complete a century next year..

Ride on everyone

I finally got on my bike! Where did September go??? I didn't get to take a picture of the lovely Rocky River, however, because it started pouring down rain! But here is the link to the park so you can see how lovely it is.

Technical or complex wasn't required at all! I'm glad you did the ride and enjoyed it.

I was hoping to ride today, but ended up just reading a book and enjoying an afternoon of quiet, something I haven't had in FOREVER!

Oh, Miss G - that is hard. My MIL started dialysis a month ago, and I can report that while it does wipe her out and she's tired afterward, she is generally feeling better and has a more positive outlook than she did before. I hope your mom responds well.

I did want to note, too, that I met the Sept. challenge. My hub and I drove out to a campground within biking distance of home, and my goal was to ride home. It's not a longer ride than I've ever done; though some of it was on trail I've ridden before, it was an adventure simply because of the way I wanted to do it - arranging the camping trip and getting the buy-in from my sweetie and explaining to the dogs that it was okay that I wasn't in the car on the way home...

I decided that, for me, the September challenge was about doing a ride I've wanted to do, even though it wasn't all that technical or complicated or complex. It was about the doing of it, which I otherwise would not have done.

Thanks for the challenge.

I have yet to be ON my bike in September. It's been such a hellish month, and I have been so depressed, that I have hardly been moving at all. Just as I thought things were settling down, my mom ended up in the hospital. Now my niece, who is the mother of 3, is in hospital with a headache and spine pain that had her throwing up to the point of severe dehydration. They botched her spinal tap and she is leaking spinal fluid. I hate that Montana hospital and wish none of them had to be cared for there.

Mom is undergoing dialysis now, and it's being really hard on her. She is giving it a month to see if she wants to live this way or whether she will just call it quits and go into hospice, I think that once she starts feeling better she will decide to stick around, but that is one more black cloud on my horizon that I just have to watch and see if it will head my way....

I just did the Boston Hub on Wheels ride this past Sunday, it was 50 miles.. I got some good pic's but I have to upload them, and I am doing my first 100 miler this Friday its a charity ride.. for missing children I will post all the pics after that..

Sundays ride was great.. started out rain but then stopped and cleared right up.. My husband did the 30.. and he rides much slower so he let me go do my thing.. but I did slow down when we can to the ocean I had to stop and take it all in it was sooo beautiful..
I have also decided I want to race.. on Saturday there was a pro cup race men's and woman's they blocked off 4 streets all around this huge building called the government center and they did laps.. it was so cool...but it got me thinking, I really do not want to do a tri.. I mean I love swimming and running well, I don't run fast I jog.. but biking is my passion and going fast is even more.. I have gotten my cadence up to 98 and can do about 18mph I know I need to get that higher.. so I am going to really start to look into this.. coaching, training, where do I go next dose any one have any input? thanks

Ride on

Anita

blog posted with pictures of Kelleys Island Ohio. The Island is about 4 miles wide by 3-4 miles and is a 20 minute ferry ride off the coast of Marblehead Ohio. This was only my 2nd trip out to the island but I have wanted to go back since I saw it the first time.

We road about 12 and a quarter miles by the fitness maps estimate. Street traffic is very laid back on the island since both tourists and residents use bikes and golf carts extensively.

Thule racks I find pretty cheap new or used. Craigslist in my area had a couple, but since my car is only rated for a 2 bike rack (should be the most I ever need to carry otherwise I would be using a bigger vehicle anyway) I got mine new from amazon for less than $100. It was super easy to install the first time too.

I need to get a bike rack for my car. My last car was big enough that I could just take the front wheel off and shove the bike in. What I'm driving now has such a silly shape to the trunk and the door openings that even though there is plenty of space inside, I can't get the frame in even if I take off both wheels. Boo!

The Natuckett/Marthas Vineyard tour does look like fun, but for me the Niagara is the driveable one. It sounds like several of us are interested in these trips but all different ones. Maybe if we all do the trip we are looking at we should start a thread here next year to share our experiences with the different riding tours. I also saw a beginning tour with a little more mileage in Idaho which included an afternoon maintenance seminar on the first day. Right now though I think I can get my vacation schedule to work if I did the weekend tour in Niagara because it would mean only taking 3 days off of work. In addition to the two other trips I am planning next year. (one is to a mystery book conference, the other is just a regular vacation).

Didn't see the Cape Cod tour, but my husband is from Maryland and I see some for the Chesapeake Bay that would be mostly 20 mile days which is more within my realm of doability and looks like fun.

3/31/12 Trailbreaker half marathon 13.1 miles in 3 hours 13 minutes
4/20/13 Neighborhood Watch 5K 39:17.6
10/5/13 5K Grace Pet Fest 38:47.6
12/1/13 Secret City Half Marathon around 3 hours and 4 minutes
4/19/14 Butterflies for Hope 5K for Lupus 39:23.8 (I hurt my back a few days before, and though it was my first official 5K with some jogging, my back hurt, so was very slow.)

I will not put my bike on a plane.. only because you got to take most of it apart and that is something I just do not want to do.. LOL...

YAY right now we have tentative plans to go to Kelley's next friday the 6th. Thursday the 5th is the day I am supposed to get my new (to me) road bike back from the shop, and then my roommate is going to try out my hybrid for height (I am 5'7 and the frame is sized for me, she is 5'2 and I am pretty sure with the seat all the way down it will still be too big for her), if she can ride the hybrid we are taking both bikes, otherwise I am riding the comfy bike and she is renting on the island.

Women bicycling tours... oh, wow. Never knew such existed. If I ever get up to do that kind of mileage, I may very well have to do that. Since moving to TN, I haven't been biking as much. Those hills are hard, but need to get back out there and do more biking.

Wow that does sound like a super tour. I actually like the niagara falls tour as a beginner one. The Epic tour of lake Erie sounds awesome but I'd probably be ready to just go home when the tour arrived in Sandusky (I am 30 minutes west by car). I just looked at their big island for beginners tour, OH MY GOD I have my new dream vacation.

A couple of my cousins recently told me they are doing an independent bike tour from Pittsburg (where one of the girls lives) down to DC on bike trials, 6 days approximately 55 miles a day. They said they did not know yet if they were camping or planning motel/inn stays. The 7th day they were going to take amtrak back up to Pitt. It sounds like a blast but they are going in October and I am clean out of time off for the year, also I would have a pretty short training time running up to the event. I only bike 4 days a week and a am just getting over 10 miles every day of the week now.

My commute to & from work is pretty nice, since I'm riding along the Sacajawea Heritage Trail. (Despite what some people think about Eastern Washington, many of us find the brush steppe beautiful.)

Alas, since I've decided to switch to multi-sport, I'm no longer doing my long rides on the weekends. You're just going to have to settle for this: http://scenicwa.com/listing/sacagawea-here
tage-trail.html

A while back, I discovered there is a picture of me on the City of Pasco's web page. My face isn't identifiable, but I'm certain it's me. Same body shape, same lousy body position on the bike, really bright yellow jersey. The picture appears on various pages once you're past the home page, but it's always the one immediately to the right of the City's logo. And it's a nice shot of the bike path I ride to work along. http://www.pasco-wa.gov/

Love God. Love your neighbor. Change the world. It really is that simple.

That would be a pleasant ride! I biked around South Bass a couple weekends ago, but it was a triathlon so I didn't really take it in as pleasantly as I should have. Maybe I'll make a second voyage.

Ladies, I kind of missed July and August for challenges, but let's get one in for September. School starts back up, and the days begin to get cooler and shorter. So this challenge will be just for fun:

Tour someplace on your bike that is beautiful. Take pictures and post them here.
