I am so sorry. It is like losing a member of your family. 18 years is wonderful. If you keep them indoors, 15 years is about how long they live. The average for outdoor cats is 3 years. You gave your girl a long, happy life.

We had a cat named Velvet Paw when we were first married. He was so naughty! He lived to be 13. I still miss him. What a character. The two we have now are probably the best behaved we have ever had, and they're very sweet.

Let yourself be sad. They are such an intricate part of our lives. I hurt for you.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.

My dad had to have one of his two furkids put to sleep a few days ago. He won't admit it, but I know that he misses Winnie. He'll just have to baby the one he has left--Bucky.

I feel your pain deep within me because I have gone through the same thing more than once and it is very painful. At her age, you did the right thing, I believe. I am glad you have a great vet. I will pray for you to have comfort in your life. You gave your Kitties a loving and caring home, and they will always remember that and know of your love. In my religion, we believe we will see our pets again, a great comfort to me and I hope to you too. Take care. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Chelsea emoticon

My Maine Coon is a joyful six years old and is just an oversized kitten at heart.

My ragdoll mix is nearly 17 and is aging with early hints of feline senility. She is still her loving sweet self and we treasure every way we have with her, but, like you, we check her all the time!

I read these posts and cried. My maine coone is 13 and at times he is losing his appetite, sleeps all day and stays in his box more than usual. He is such a baby now seems like he is going backwards. I worry every morning when I go check on hime but he just keeps going. Vet says he is aging but healthy.

If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies

Yeah Sammie lost a lot of weight the last year he was around you could feel his backbone and he had no "meat" on his back legs. We have a 10 month old feral tomcat and you would swear he was a MC as he looks like one and howls like one ( he and his sister LOVED Sam).
Charlie has the long tail and even has hair between his toes like a Maine Coon. But his mom and his sister are both short haired. Thanks for your sympathy- its too bad they can't live forever.

I am so sorry for your grief. I am facing the same as Max is 17 yrs. old. Lost his sister 5 years ago from a tumor in the lung. He now has a large walnut size lump on the side, but doesn't seem to be in any pain. He is now forgetting things and is thin as a rail - Maine Coon Cat use to weigh 23 lbs - now he might be 12 lbs. Sad - but I know the time is getting near. Still have a 4 yr. old Feral Cat found as a kitten, but I think she will take his passing really hard as she shows him her love with kisses and baths all the time...

I lost Sam earlier on this month he was just getting too old and sick (he was 14). The vet was very kind to him and said she thought he had a fused hip and the other one was infected he had a hell of a time to jump. Poor bugger. Funnily he was sweet natured to the end. emoticon

I know a little late but I'm so sorry about your cats. I read here somewhere when a pet dies a personality dies as well from the household.

My Missy died at the age of 14 from cancer, I was and am still beating myself up as I never took her to the vet as she was never sick..had I, she might be with me today...

We adopted 2 littermates, Mitty and Matty and since Missy died I've become obsessive about my cats...They go for a yearly, I have pet insurance on them to cover any vet costs, and any little thing going on with them we are at the vet.

I still mourn my cat, so I feel so bad for you.. emoticon

I strongly believe that cats have a unique understanding that goes deeper then we simple humans could ever understand. I know your precious kitty understood what was going on and she knows it was an act of love. She also knows how much it hurt you to have to do it. I believe she would want you to cherish all the wonderful memories you have together and to know she's with her brother; happy, healthy and not hurting. God keep you through your time of grief.

Making the decision necessary for Emily's quality of life must have been heart breaking. However, the two of you were blessed with many special moments. I have been put in the position several times with that very question. The answer for me must always be what will be best for Elmo. As previously commented, I am certain you made the correct decision for Emily.

I'm really sorry to hear about Emily. You were both very lucky to have each other. I'm sure you did the right thing, if you weren't doing the right thing, Emily would have been able to pick up on it and wouldnt have been so calm in the car.

Thinking of you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You were blessed to have had her for that long. Gidget left us after only 9 years. I'm sure she'll be meeting Emily at the emoticon bridge.

I'm so sorry! :( I lost one last Monday night/Tuesday morning. (She was about 20.) It's never easy.

It's really normal to question yourself like this. You did the right thing for her. Just think of the good, long life she had with you!

*hugs*

I am so sorry! You made the HARDEST decision we as pet lovers have to make. But it is the most generous gift we can give them when it's time. I applaud your courage and empathise with your grief right now. Remember, you may hurt now but how awful would it be if they hadn't been part of our lives? Hang in there and know there are people who are pulling for you.

Ahhhhhhhh, so sorry for your loss! Even though it's the best thing, it's still so hard to do. 18 years though - that's wonderful to have her that long - wow!!

I had to put my sweet cat down today. Emily was almost 18 years old. She was the sweetest cat and smart and I loved her so much. I am just really sad and miss her so much. Her "brother" died earlier this year and she went down hill after that. Just miss her. Its like an end of an era for my family.

You know, it's awful. I've beaten myself up thinking I should have done this or that. I still don't know if this was the best idea. She just laid on my lap as I drove to the vet. The vet was great.
Thanks.
