YES! Great time had by all! Super company, yummy & healthy food and lots of sharing and conversation!

NIKKICLINK also joined me beforehand for the Spinning class and later enjoyed the pool at Riverwalk Athletic Center! I'm hoping to get back there again tomorrow a.m.

I'm sorry to say that after speaking with Michelle and seeing the lack of action the proprietors have taken it appears that nothing has happened thus far. Michelle suspects that since the Grand Opening for the fitness center is scheduled for next Saturday that they are just going too crazy getting ready for that to bother making any other arrangements.

Feeling badly as we are SO close to the 19th without anything firm for plans!

I'm planning on being at Michelle's regular spinning class on Sat. 2/19 at 8 a.m. As the free membership is open to everyone there is nothing preventing us from having a number from Binghamton Area Losers present and pumping it up!

Later we can still plan on gathering at Whole in the Wall for lunch and or taking a walk to and around MacArthur Park's track.

Whole in the Wall opens at 11:30 a.m. How about meeting then?

Spinning is indoor cycling on a stationary bike. You don't need balance to do it because the bike is on a frame that doesn't move. Just the pedals and a wheel go around, with resistance you can control. Sometimes they have you stand up in the pedals but you're always holding the handle bars. OK, I missed which health club you were talking about and I'm not quite sure what spinning is. I have MS and my balance is terrible. So long as nobody has any high expectations I might consider this a day out. Fill me in on the details and I think this sounds like fun...emoticon

As much as i want to say.. ME ME ME... i still need to get clearance from the CArdio/GP to resume normal workout activity.. But i wanted to check out this new fitness club so i may come for it... i KNow our TRiclub is supposed to have a run clinic from 10am-1pm.. were you still t hinking 3pm meetup time??? Sounds like a great idea. I am heading over to CV State Park with my daughter. I need some fresh air! Also a friend of mine from Ithaca is offering a personalized yoga session on Saturday at 3pm. He is gearing it toward Yoga newbies. $10 if anyone is interested I will give you the details.

Just spoke with Michelle and she is cool with the idea and believes management would be also!

I will post absolute confirmation as soon as I know.

It will be helpful for anyone / everyone interested to let me know via posting on this thread and / or SparkMail.

Michelle does her usual Spinning Class Sat. morning and I suggested we could have like a little mini-demo (not a full hour's class) followed by a tour of the facility, etc.

I will post more as I know more! Great idea! I hope others are up for this! We could still work in Whole in the Wall if folks would like to go there afterward.

Apologies to all for the myriad changes and morphings of plans...hope you all don't get TOO much whiplash..lol!

I am in the area and I have not been to that restaurant previously (although I've wanted to). As I didn't have the appropriate equipment or winter work-out clothes, a winter hike had been of some concern with the previous plans. I hope this plan can work for others.

B'ton is a long way to drive for a meal; and unfortunately with my arthritic knee walking is out - and I like to use my weekends to do lots of active things.

So, unless you can arrange with your new gym to let them host a Spark Rally or something where we can all lift or do cardio together, I think I'll stay closer to home and ski on the crust that is left...

Since we are shooting right up in temps this week I think getting out for "winter fun" is probably not going to work.

However I am STILL up for a gathering!

How about my plan B of meeting for a meal (mid-day) at Whole in the Wall?

If folks are up for a brisk walk (high on Sat. 28, plummeting from 50's high on Fri.) we could walk over to MacArthur School's track and back after our meal.

unfortunately i can't make it on that weekend. hubby will have the car. but maybe during the spring we can plan something for a closer place like otsiningo park or cole park for some hiking. for now i have american fitness gym. i absolutely love that place and it's the best 99 bucks i ever spent.

As there only appears to be 1-2 folks interested in this weekend I think we will stick with our original date of Feb. 19th. The weather is a bit dicey. Weather.com offers a chillier forecast of mid-30's through next week with rain / snow on Thurs. / Fri., but Accuweather is calling for warmer temps up into the mid-40's with NO precip.

Either way I think it will be dicey for cross country skiing on Feb. 19th. Let's stay tuned and see what Mother Nature dishes up.

The forecast continues to call for a VERY wet, sloppy week next week Sun. through the 19th will be mid-30s to mid-40s.

I'm wondering if we can be quick enough to change plans and do our Rally THIS Saturday instead of NEXT...?

Just spoke with Greenwood park and barring some DRASTIC change in weather they are pretty confident that cross country skiing will be up and running this Saturday.

The temps on Saturday should be in the upper 20's which ought to be ideal for Cross Country Skiing.

So what do folks think...?

Ugh! Best laid plans...!

Despite some bone-chilling single digits on the way, by Saturday they are calling for 45 degrees and a mix of snow and rain...!

This is beginning to sound inhospitable to ANY outdoor fun...whether CVSP or Greenwood...!

What do folks think? I'm thinking forget Greenwood as certainly cross country skiing will be out. Do we want to try for the activities at CVSP or something else altogether?

Perhaps as an alternative: meeting at Whole In the Wall health food restaurant for lunch? If the weather allows toss in a walk / run to MacArthur School track?

Looking for feedback folks!

With a response so low, I'm reluctant to make a call on this just yet. If anyone knows anyone who is interested but hasn't yet gotten back to me try to nudge folks to do so!

Also, another factor...with all the melting that has occurred over the past few days and the prospects for only a few inches earlier in the week I'm wondering if Cross Country Skiing will be open for business come Saturday. Okay folks...the clock is ticking and we've got to make up our minds here.

Chenango Valley State Park vs. Greenwood Park

February 19th. Time? Don't want to wait TOO late...I'm thinking we should start around 11 - noon.

I don't think there is anything available much for food at Chenango Valley and the snacks at Greenwood are probably not the healthiest so we should consider bringing some of our own whichever route we choose.

Vote for one or the other via a SparkMail back to me. I'll tally up and post the results by the end of the weekend so we can make our plans for next Saturday!

That's certainly an alternative...we could do the same things @ Greenwood that Chen. Valley has to offer.

Those who would want to rent cross country skis and snowshoes could feel free to do so:

The combined trail system is approximately 5.5 miles which includes groomed trails for beginners through the expert skier.

Hours of operation:

8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. weekdays
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. weekends

Equipment rental rates:

Cross-Country Skis - $3.00 per hour
Snowshoes - $3.00 per hour

Trail use fee:

$4.00 per day
Season Pass - $30.00

All trails begin at the ski concession stand and rental operation.

The big drawback to doing anything involving equipment (snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice skating, etc) is that there are no rentals available. This is something the park would love to offer, however the odds are slim that this will become available during such lean times governmentally.

But the GREAT news I just found out is that:

There are NO FEES for ANYTHING during this event! No entry fees to the park or any events on this day. Just spoke with the State Park staff about this. Here is their phone number if anyone has any further questions: (607) 648-5251

Everything is FREE! There will be boxes for donations if folks are able, but nothing will be required.

This sounds awesome. I especially like the idea of sledding, as I've never been before. I grew up in FL where there was never any snow, and when we moved back to the area my mom was just NOT a play in the snow kind of person.

Right now my only possible obstacles would be if my husband doesn't have the weekend off of work, and cost, because money is tight right now, but I'll definitely discuss it with the hubby. :)

The pain of discipline is far less than the pain of regret.

Just got this info courtesy of the Southern Tier Bike Club as some of them are volunteering to do the cross country skiing and snow shoeing events:

Not totally positive, however I believe both Greenwood and Chen. Valley have indoor bathrooms in their main buildings. I *know* Greenwood does...and from many moons ago I remember Chen. Valley had an indoor area next to the skating area.

Also...these may not be our only options (Greenwood & Chen. Valley)...if anyone knows of others feel free to post the info!

I'm available at the moment Feb 19 or 20.

I'd prefer to do something very active outside, if possible.

I have ice skates, XC skis, and a snowboard. Would be happy to use any of 'em with you guys!

(I'm assuming no one wants to kayak with me, but I'm willing to do that too - in my drysuit. LOL)

P.S. I live about 40 minutes north of Ithaca, so if anyone would be coming from my general direction I'd be happy to carpool.

I like Option 3 as well.. One thing to consider.. which ones that have bathrooms beyond porta potties availble for use. :)

This would be my choice. I love the idea of being able to get out and do some fun winter activities with everyone.

Not sure I could swing the 19th, it would depend on the time.

Option 3: Some of our local parks (Greenwood, Chenango Valley) have indoor areas where we could have a meet 'n greet and then we can take it outdoors for some winter fun such as hikes, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice skating, etc.

This sounds great! I live a tad to far from Bingo to have it at my place, but I would love to meet and do something outside!! That weekend is free for me and I am up for just about anything!emoticon

Okay folks: Let's make it a tad easier to plan for our SparkRally by starting with a definite weekend: Feb. 19-20!

Our challenge during this week ahead: Let's nail our plans during this week ahead (Jan. 31-Feb 4th) so that we can get the word out to fellow members of our SparkTeam and hopefully even NEW members so that they have a rally to look forward to meeting fellow members of our local SparkTeam!

I'll start the brainstorming by tossing out a few possibilities and folks can start helping to zero in on the best plan for US!

Option 1: meet & greet at a local restaurant of our choosing and then head out for some outdoor fun such as a walk / run at one of our local parks.

Option 2: a member can opt to host a SparkRally at their home or perhaps a church or organization (hopefully for free...?)

What we need to do is fill in some details and pick an option that works for most of us.
