No problem - It just caught my eye when you said you have until 7/3 b/c I knew it was on 7/2 - my birthday - this year which is why I REALLY wanted to do it. Oh well there will be other races other days when I am better. but I will be there cheering everyone on. If we can find a swimmer, maybe DH and I can do it as a team again this year at least then I can still participate.

If it is anything like years past, they put the form up really late. It says Dick's is a sponsor, maybe if you are there sometime you could check at the customer service desk???

Hm...I'll need to talk to Al when he gets home. Hopefully we can find sometime this weekend and then everyone can make firm decisions.

Hm...my swimmer is interested, but...

it appears that this is 2 weeks earlier than last year, 7/2. I guess I hadn't looked that closely at the date prior to tonight. We are generally out of town from the last weekend in June through the 4th or 5th of July. And I likely won't know exact dates until mid-May.

=( Not sure how this will effect things.

Well...since by all accounts it sounds like Gwen *might* be ready to race the Tri all by herself this summer, it looks like Don and I need a swimmer. I have an idea for a person. She's on the BAL, but has not been real active. She's a swimmer and looking for ways to get motivated. This might just do it.

I'll let you know if I can convince her to Tri!

it is about 12.8 total.

THEN - you get off and run on the path to the dam, run up the grassy side of the dam (at this point you will definatley call it the damn dam, especially if it is 87 degrees like last year), turn left at the top to the "end" loop around, run across the top of the dam almost all the way to the other end, turn around and follow that same path back to the starting point (that part is for you Julie!!!)

We'll ride and run it a few times before July - I'll post a note when we plan on doing it to see if anyone wants to join us.

Willet is actually in Cortland Co. so I backtracked a bit south of Willet. Thing is, though I was up to almost 12 miles just routing to this point, let alone backtracking to Dorchester...!

Still, it gives me an idea and this is relatively close to home so that I can get out that way regularly.

the end point is the same as the start point - back into the park. I am not good with those maps, looks like you are ending out on 26 willet area?

I have it on Map my Run but cannot figure out how to get it to here but after you turn right, do the goofy middle of the hill turn around, back past the park then to about mile 8 is the turn around - by Kemack Rd or something like that - to head back to the park. Do you have little bike computer on your bike?

Tried to map this out. Not certain where the end point is.

Indeed it IS!! It is quite a challenging course BUT you can do it!!!! Especially if you go up a few times and ride it before July so there are no surprises. Here is the course - it is VERY weird but they had to keep it with in Broome County:

When entering the park, if you go to the left and park in the far lots on the left hand side that puts you in the ball park of the start. The transition area is set up right across from there. Ride up and out of the park (yep, starts right off w/a hill), turn RIGHT on 26 heading back to 206, up and over the hill and here's the STUPID part, just before you get to 206 there is a little side road that comes out on the right hand side....you have to turn around there - in the middle of a hill - and head back up. Then you keep going, past the park, past upper lisle bridge - almost all the way to the Cortland Co. sign. just a little bit before that is the turn around, then you head back to the park. It was marked by the mile but with winter and weather, not sure they will still be visible in the spring. Here's the killer part...mile 10 puts you smack in the middle of that MONSTER hill coming back by Upper Lisle Park. NOW - take all this with a grain of salt and coming from a "new as of last year" rider - hills are hills, but to many people they aren't as bad as I just made them out to be!

Well I'd have to really ramp up my cycling as I've never been one to focus on speed overly so, distance has been my thing. Not that I don't enjoy a sprint here and there...but 12 miles isn't exactly a sprint!

Kobe...do you know the route that is usually taken by the cyclists...? Hopefully not up and down those nasty hills on 26...? :-)

Except the BC Park Tri is a sprint, so (I think) it's a 1 mile swim, maybe 12 mile bike and 5K run.

There are 3 or 4 different Tri lengths.

So before I jump into this I need to know more about Tri's and how they work:

My understanding is that it would be like a relay race with folks sort of passing the baton from one to another...the runner passes on to the swimmer who passes on to the biker...?

Neat quote about the Ironman Triathlon:

"Swim 2.4 miles! Bike 112 miles! Run 26.2 miles! Brag for the rest of your life!”

OK i'm gonna giggle at Julie's typo in the 2011 race calnder thread.. she put she'd do the running.. but is not up to the "running and the biking" ..I knew what she meant.. She needs a swimmer... Which has gotten me to thinking .. as i CAN do the 5K and bike the 12 miles... My main goal and hurdle i'm trying to accomplish in training for a triatholon this year is swimming... So.. i would like to do the TRi this year as a team even...

Julie if you want to run it.. I'll swim it.. We just need someone to Bike it...Any takers????

Gwen
