Your dogs are smart. Processed food, both canned and dry is not ideal for them anyhow. If you can afford it I would recommend a diet made from raw meat and bones. The important thing is to find the right kind of bones that will not break their teeth. If you google BARF (Bones and Raw Food Diet) you will find a ton of info. There are at least 2 yahoo groups about raw feeding dogs. I feed raw as much as I can afford. Usually at least 3 meals/week. I often feed ground beef mixed with raw eggs (incl. shells for calcium) or chicken backs or necks.

I have kitties so I'm not much help but I know I have seen recipes for puppies from other members. Seem to think that there was even a link at one point.

Is there a good recipe for a noutrishous puppy food? I think I would like to make some & try it out as my dogs, young & old do not like store bought foods. Even the expenisve ones.
