We're really not supposed to, but tonight I opened up the door that leads to the stairs down to the second floor and tossed the ball down the stairs for Mandi to fetch. She loved it! And she made me laugh when she decided she was done and took her ball to go sit by the apartment door.

I feel for the little one, especially with her having Jack Russell in her, they are really active dogs and beagles are very smart.

I can imagine the cat bailing her up, my previous cat Josie had all of the dogs bluffed as well.

My dog dislikes the water too... it's "comforting" to know that there are other dogs who don't like water either! She acts petrified of the hose, mortified with baths... she's not willing to play in water if she can so help it. (And she's been like that since I got her at 4 months old.)

We do play inside, but it doesn't seem to be enough. While she's not hyper, she is a jack russell and beagle mix (I'm sure with something else too). We lived in the country with a back yard and squirrels and chipmunks to chase for the first 3 years of her life; however, we had to move last fall. The past year in the city doesn't seem to be sitting well with her. I can't just let her out anymore - we live in an apartment complex. Thus, she doesn't have the freedom to chase critters. And she doesn't go after the cats at all - one thing she caught onto really quick as a puppy: kitties are not for play, especially when they have claws. (She's actually afraid of them. One afternoon my female cat had her "trapped" in the bathroom - Mandi was too afraid to walk past the cat to get out.)

I guess I feel bad. I wish she could be outside more, but neither one of us do well in the heat. I wish there was an indoor, air-conditioned gym with treadmills and walk tracks for people and their pets!

That sounds like my dog Bruno Earl!! But he loves to chase away the cockatoos that are on the ground nibbling.

I'm lucky that I can take them down the road and in the creek if they want to, but they all love to "eat" the water coming from the hose, my cockatoo also loves to get "watered" with the hose, he'll spread his wings out and turn upside down for maximum coverage.

Can you buy those plastic shells over there, I think they are also used for kids sandpits, you can put some water in those, let them muck about, then throw the water on the garden when they have finished.

I had a terrier that like to chase the cats where we lived overseas. On a vacation back home, he saw a rabbit for the first time. He started chasing it but then the rabbit started running the dog stopped dead in his tracks and just looked stunned to see anything run that fast.

My lab hates the heat and is not water friendly (odd I know). So we go on three walks a day, but for shorter times. I try to get her to play in the river, but she just steps in for a sec to cool her paws. Lily gets overheated very quickly, so I carry water, but we try to play inside as much as we can. Given her size, I try to play mental games with her indoors with a little bit of fetch as to minimize any damage to the house, lol.. We also go to the pet store and walk laps inside. I feel bad for her becasue she is used to long walks and playing with her friends outside during the cooler months. But, I would rather her get less exercise than heat exhaustion.

I have an over an acre of land chock full of rabbits. His early morning run (5:00 am) is chasing rabbits out of his territory.

Here it early morning and just before bed. Water is not a problem so when I am watering my plants or washing the patio's Lucy Bella gets sprayed with the hose. She also loves ice cubes and playing chase or fetch int he house. For 3 months we mostly stay indoors as much as possible here in the Middle East.

A number of my friends have kiddie pools for their pups. Depending on the size, it might be fun for both of you!!!

My dogs don't do well in the heat so I exercise them in the early morning and evening - another 'trick' is to wrap them in a wet towel or absorbent material and tie it on them around their torso - that cools them off a lot! I also put a 'cooling scarf' around their necks - but even with that, there are certain temperatures where it's still too hot for them to do much in the way of exercise.

This summer I am planning a number of trips to higher elevation during the hotter months - i'm hoping the dogs AND people will be a lot cooler that way!

My dogs are small so we play "chase" games around the house, I chase, they run! My house is pretty pet friendly so we don't have any mishaps. I also get down on the floor & play games with them, I just make them up; for example, I try to grab their paws, they pounce & jump, and that wears them out too. If the garage is not too hot, we have a game we play hide & seek around the vehicles, which is another chase game. They love all these games, and they catch on quick.

You could get one of those kiddie pools for your pup to cool her off and I agree with walking early in the morning or late evening when it isn't so hot.I'm not much help so hopefully others on our team can give you some suggestions.

Our dog loves the lawn sprinkler as much as the boys do!

That's a problem we have here & the only thing I can think of is to get out very early in the morning - Something I have not yet accomplished by the way. I'm interested in what ideas people have also. You're not in Texas too are you?

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do when it's too hot to be outside with my dog? There isn't anywhere that I could take her to swim near by, and I feel bad that she's not getting to go out (and she really doesn't like the heat either).
