ROMANS – Chapter Titles and Memory Verses

1 -
1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.”

2 – JUDGMENT AND THE LAW
2:4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

3 – JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH
3:23-26 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; 26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

4 – FAITH SAVES, NOT THE LAW
4:20-22 yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief, but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully assured that what He had promised, He was able also to perform. 22 Therefore also IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.

5 – BY JUST ONE MAN
5:1-8 Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God 2 through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. 6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

6 – FREEDOM FROM SIN
6:5-14,16 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with him, that our body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. 10 For the death that he died, He died to sin, once for all; but the life that He lives, he lives to God. 11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body that you should obey its lusts, 13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

7 – THE UNSANCTIFIED LIFE
7:24-25a Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? 25a Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! ...

8 – THE SANCTIFIED LIFE
8:5-6 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
8:13-16 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.
8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
8:37-39 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

9 -
9:8 that is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants.

10 – SALVATION IS FOR THE GENTILES WHO BELIEVE TOO
10:8-13, 17 But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART” - that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; 10 for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call upon Him; 13 for “WHOEVER WILL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.”...17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

11 – REMNANT OF ISRAEL
11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God? How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!

12 – YOUR SPIRITUAL SERVICE OF WORSHIP
12:1-2 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptableto God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
12:9-21 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and curse not. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. 17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord. 20 “BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS UPON HIS HEAD.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

13 – RESPONSIBILITY TO THE GOVERNMENT
13:10-14 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; love therefore is the fulfillment of the law. 11 And this do, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep, for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. 12 The night is almost gone, and the day is at hand. Let us therefore lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.

14 – MEASURE OF FAITH
14:8 for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.
14:17-19 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19 So then let us pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.

15 – FINAL ENCOURAGEMENTS
15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

16 – GREETINGS AND WARNINGS
16:19-20 For the report of your obedience has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good, and innocent in what is evil. 20 And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

God bless, Kim

JOHN - Chapter Titles and Memory Verses

1 – JESUS, THE WORD
1:1-14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6 There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came for a witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came that He might bear witness of the light. 9 There was the true light, which coming into the world, enlightens every man. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

2 – JESUS BEGINS HIS MINISTRY
2:11 This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.

3 – JESUS GIVES NEW BIRTH
3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him.”
3:30 “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
3:36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

4 – JESUS GIVES LIVING WATER
4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

5 – JESUS DOES THE FATHER'S WILL
5:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”

6 – JESUS IS THE BREAD OF LIFE
6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”
6:37 “All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.”
6:40 “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him, may have eternal life; and I myself will raise him up on the last day.”
6:44 “No one can come to Me, unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.”
6:47-48 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life.”

7 – PEOPLE ARE DISTURBED BY JESUS
7:38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.'”

8 – JESUS AND THE FATHER
8:31-32, 36 Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”...36 ”If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”
8:58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.”

9 – JESUS HEALS THE BLIND MAN
9:33 “If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.”

10 – JESUS IS THE GOOD SHEPHERD
10:9-11 “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly.” 11 I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.”
10:17-18 “For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. 18 No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again, this commandment I received from My Father.”
10:27-30 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

11 – JESUS RAISES LAZARUS
11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

12 – TRIUMPHAL ENTRY
12:25-27 “He who loves his life loses it; and he who hates his life in this world shall keep it to life eternal. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there shall my servant also be; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. 27 Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour.”

13 – PASSOVER SHARED
13:34-35 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love on another.”

14 – JESUS DISCIPLES FOR HIS DEATH
14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.”
14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.”
14:13-16 “And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. 15 if you love Me, you will keep My commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;”
14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make Our abode with him.”
14:26-27 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”

15 –JESUS IS THE VINE/LOVE
15:7-14, 17 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. 9 Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are My friends, if you do what I command you...17 This I command you, that you love one another.”

16 – THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

17 – JESUS PRAYS FOR HIS DISCIPLES
17:3 “And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.”

18 – JESUS' ARREST AND QUESTIONING
18:36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting, that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”

19 – THE CRUCIFIXION
19:17-18 They took Jesus therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha. 18 There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.

20 – THE RESURRECTION
20:30-31 Many other signs therefore Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

21 – FULL NETS/AGAPE LOVE
21:15-17 So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Tend My sheep.”

God bless, Kim

LUKE – Chapter Titles and Memory Verses

1 – JOHN'S BIRTH; JESUS' CONCEPTION
1:26-37 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee, called Nazareth, 27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And coming in, he said to her, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.” 29 But she was greatly troubled at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; 33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and His kingdom will have no end.” 34 And Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy offspring shall be called the Son of God. 36 And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”
1:74-75 “To grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear, 75 in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.”

2 – JESUS' BIRTH AND YOUTH
2:8-14 And in the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields, and keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. 10 And the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths, and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and one earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
2:40 And the Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.
2:52 And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

3 – BEGINNING OF JOHN'S MINISTRY; JESUS' GENEALOGY
3:8 “Therefore bring forth fruits in keeping with repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father,' for I say to you that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.”

4 – JESUS' TEMPTATIONS; JESUS BEGINS HIS MINISTRY
4:21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

5 –
5:

6 – JESUS IS LORD OF THE SABBATH; SERMON ON THE PLAIN
6:12 And it was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God.
6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

7 –
7:

8 –
8:50 But when Jesus heard this, He answered him, “Do not be afraid any longer; only believe, and she shall be made well.”

9 –
9:

10 –
10:27-28 And he answered and said, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” 28 And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; DO THIS, AND YOU WILL LIVE.”

11 –
11:

12 – JESUS TEACHES HIS DISCIPLES
12:4-9 “And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who after He has killed has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him! 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? And yet not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows. 8 And I say to you, everyone who confesses Me before men, the Son of Man shall confess him also before the angels of God; 9 but he who denies Me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.”

As you can see, I don't always get a title and verse for each chapter, so if you have a suggestion for the ones I missed I'd appreciate hearing what you came up with. These are just my ideas for me. Each chapter may say something different to you, so you decide for yourself a title and verse that speaks to you if what I have chosen isn't what speaks to you.

Mark included so many things in each chapter it was hard for me to find titles for some of them.

MARK

1 – BEGINNING OF JESUS' MINISTRY
1:38 And He said to them, “Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, in order that I may preach there also; for that is what I came out for.”

2 –
2:10-11 “But in order that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”--He said to the paralytic—11 “I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home.”
2:17 And hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

3 –
3:35 “For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother.”

4 –
4:33-34 And with many such parables He was speaking the word to them as they were able to hear it; 34 and He did not speak to them without a parable; but he was explaining everything privately to His own disciples.

5 –
5:35-36 While He was still speaking, they came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?” 36 But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, “Do not be afraid any longer, only believe.”

6 – JESUS SENDS OUT HIS DISCIPLES
6:5-6 And He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands upon a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He wondered at their unbelief. And He was going around the villages teaching.

7 – TRADITION; HEALING
7:20 And He was saying, “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man.”

8 –
8:29-30 And He continued by questioning them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said, to Him, “Thou art the Christ.”
8:34-38 And He summoned the multitude with His disciples, and said to them, If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 35 For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's shall save it. 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 For what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

9 –
9:23-24 And Jesus said to him, “'If You can!' All things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the boy's father cried out and began saying, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”

10 –
10:25-27 “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 And they were even more astonished and said to Him, “Then who can be saved?” 27 Looking upon them, Jesus said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”
10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

11 –
11:22-24 And Jesus answered saying to them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it shall be granted him. 24 Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted you.”

12 –
12:29-31 Jesus answered, “The foremost is, 'HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; 30 YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.' 31 The second is this, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is no other commandment greater than these.”

13 –
13:23-33 “But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 33 Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time is.”

14 – PASSOVER; JESUS' ARREST
14:37-38 And He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? 38 Keep watching and praying, that you may not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
14:61-62 But He kept silent, and made no answer. Again the high priest was questioning Him, and saying to Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62 And Jesus said, “I am; and you shall see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and COMING WITH THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN.”

15 – CRUCIFIXION AND BURIAL
15:13 And they shouted back, “Crucify Him!”
15:46 And Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.

16 – RESURRECTION
16:6 And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.”

God bless, Kim

This is something that my Pastor suggested we do many years ago and it helped me immensely in learning how to find my way around the Scriptures. I thought that I would share what I found in each chapter of the New Testament. At one point I did have much of this memorized, but age and hormones have robbed me of much of it. I can still find my way around because of learning this, but getting it exact is pretty much gone! Here's Matthew:

1 – GENEALOGY AND JESUS' BIRTH
1:18-25 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows. When His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with Child by the Holy Spirit. 19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her, desire to put her away secretly. 20 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for that which has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for it is He who will save His people from their sins.” 22 Now all this took place that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, 23 “BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD, AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.” 24 And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took her as his wife, 25 and kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.

2 – JESUS' CHILDHOOD
2:11 And they came into the house and saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell down and worshiped Him; and opening their treasures they presented to Him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.

3 – JESUS IS BAPTIZED
3:11 “As for me, I baptized you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
3:16-17 And after being baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him, 17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”

4 – JESUS' TEMPTATIONS/JESUS BEGINS HIS MINISTRY
4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

5 – SERMON ON THE MOUNT
5:3-12 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when men cast insults at you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great, for so they persecute the prophets who were before you.”
5:48 “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

6 – SERMON ON THE MOUNT
6:8-13 “Therefore do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need, before you ask Him. 9 Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptations, but deliver us from evil. [For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.]'”
6:31-34 “Do not be anxious then, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'With what shall we clothe our- selves?' 32 For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

7 – SERMON ON THE MOUNT
7:7-8, 11 “Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened...11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask?”

8 – MIRACLES OF JESUS
8:17 in order that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES, AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.”

9 – MATTHEW CALLED/ MORE MIRACLES
9:12-13 But when He heard this, He said, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick. 13 But go and learn what this means, 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT SACRIFICE,' for I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”
9:36-39 And seeing the multitudes, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”

10 – JESUS INSTRUCTS THE APOSTLES
10:19-22 “But when they deliver you up, do not become anxious about how or what you will speak; for it shall be given you in that hour what you are to speak. 20 For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. 21 And brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And you will be hated by all on account of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.”
10:38-39 “And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who has found his life shall lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake shall find it.”

11 – JESUS HONORS FAITH AND REPROACHES UNBELIEF
11:28-30 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 For My yoke is easy, and My load is light.”

12 – JESUS IS LORD OF THE SABBATH
12::8 “For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
12:37 'For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.”
12:50 “For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.”

13 – KINGDOM PARABLES
13:10-11 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?” 11 And He answered and said to them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.”
13:43 “Then the RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.”

14 – DEATH OF JOHN; 5,000 FED; WALKING ON WATER
14:28-31 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But seeing the wind, he became afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

15 – JESUS DEALS WITH PHARISEES; HEALS; 4,000 FED
15:11 “Not what enters into the mouth defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.”

16 – PETER'S GREAT CONFESSION
16:24-27 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake shall find it. 26 For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and WILL THEN RECOMPENSE EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS.”

17 – JESUS' TRANSFIGURATION; TEMPLE TAX
17:5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”

18 – JESUS TEACHES HIS DISCIPLES
18:19-20 “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. 20 For where two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst.”

19 – DIVORCE; RICH YOUNG RULER
19:25-26 And when the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved?” 26 And looking upon them Jesus said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

20 – JESUS PREPARES FOR JERUSALEM
20:26-28 “It is not so among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, 27 and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

21 – TRIUMPHAL ENTRY
21:21-22 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith, and do not doubt, you shall not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it shall happen. 22 And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.”

22 – PARABLE OF THE WEDDING FEAST; QUESTIONS
22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
22:37-40 And He said to him, “'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' 38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

23 – SEVEN WOES
23:8-12 “But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 And do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. 11 But the greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.”

24 – SIGNS OF THE END TIMES
24:13 “But the one who endures to the end, he shall be saved.”
24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away.”

25 – ENTERING THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN
25:13 “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.”

26 – JESUS' LAST DAYS
26:39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as Thou wilt.”
26:41 “Keep watching and praying, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

27 – CRUCIFIXION
27:50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.

28 – RESURRECTION
28:6 “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.”
28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

I will try to put up a new book each week. Some of the books don't have a title or a verse for each chapter, so getting your imput will be fun.
