What is/are your favorite holiday tradition(s)? They can be related to your culture, your family, or something you created yourself.
For me, it's the Christmas Eve candle. In Ireland a lighted candle is placed in the window on Christmas Eve night (since I live in earthquake country, I use a battery candle).
During the British occupation, practicing the Catholic faith was a capital crime. The candle marked the house where Christmas Mass would be said. However, the British authorities were told that it was to tell the Holy Family that there would be room for them in that house. The authorities passed it off as a harmless local custom. Despite my struggles with religious issues, my Irish heritage is my heart and soul, and I cling to that tradition.
What's YOUR favorite?
"...there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."
"We're children of a fighting race that never yet has known disgrace." (The Soldiers' Song, Irish national anthem)
"Every day above ground is a good day." (Chef Justin Kennedy of New Orleans, on Chopped)
