I had forgotten, but a year or so ago, at a "green" festival I bought some hemp wash cloths. They also had hemp Tshirts, tote bags, etc. Supposedly will last nearly forever. Like I could pass these wash cloths down to future generations! Which I may do, they're a bit scratchy and I didn't care much for them !!

SCIENTIFIC FACTS

*Industrial hemp and marijuana are both classified by taxonomists as Cannabis sativa, a species with hundreds of varieties. C. sativa is a member of the mulberry family. Industrial hemp is bred to maximize fiber, seed and/or oil, while marijuana varieties seek to maximize THC (delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol, the primary psychoactive ingredient in marijuana).

*While industrial hemp and marijuana may look somewhat alike to an untrained eye, an easily trained eye can easily distinguish the difference.

*Industrial hemp has a THC content of between 0.05 and 1%. Marijuana has a THC content of 3% to 20%. To receive a standard psychoactive dose would require a person to power-smoke 10-12 hemp cigarettes over an extremely short period of time. The large volume and high temperature of vapor, gas and smoke would be almost impossible for a person to withstand.

*If hemp does pollinate any nearby marijuana, genetically, the result will always be lower-THC marijuana, not higher-THC hemp. If hemp is grown outdoors, marijuana will not be grown close by to avoid producing lower-grade marijuana.

*Hemp fibers are longer, stronger, more absorbent and more mildew-resistant than cotton.

*Fabrics made of at least one-half hemp block the sun's UV rays more effectively than other fabrics.

*Many of the varieties of hemp that were grown in North America have been lost. Seed banks weren't maintained. New genetic breeding will be necessary using both foreign and domestic "ditchweed," strains of hemp that went feral after cultivation ended. Various state national guard units often spend their weekends trying to eradicate this hemp, in the mistaken belief they are helping stop drug use.

*A 1938 Popular Mechanics described hemp as a "New Billion Dollar Crop." That's back when a billion was real money.

*Hemp can be made in to a variety of fabrics, including linen quality.

I know where you can buy them, no idea about getting high, but I rather doubt it or you wouldn't be able to buy them.

Do hemp seeds get you high? I thought they would be illegal. Where do you buy them?

OK - I think I just assumed that it couldn't be venison, as in "meat" because so few of us on this team ever eat meat. And of course coupled with the word "scramble" I thought it may be a tofu dish of some kind! Thanks for explaining.

Sometimes I can't think of the right word. You know... aging - fatique - being sick...

What I was talking about was venison hamburger. Cooked up like sloppy joes. (i.e. scrambled though I know the right word here isn't scrambled...). Cooked with tomato sauce and lots of spices to hide the 'wild game' taste of the venison.

"Seeing a high triglyceride level while rapidly losing weight can be expected and can eventually go away when you stop losing weight. But also eating sweets, too much fruit or grains and other starchy vegetables can make it rise, so look at what you are eating, too. Make sure that you don't regularly use oil on your salads."

I didn't know this. I keep mining the website and becoming increasingly glad I have a membership. It seems to be paying for itself. This stuff is probably in his books but being able to search for specific things is handy....

For breakfast I had spagetti squash topped with a sauce made of tomatoes, spices, scrambled venison, and topped with some low-fat mozzerrella cheese. It was soooo delicious.

Oh, and since spagetti sqash is low fiber, I had a tsp. of Konjac Glucommannan in 8 oz. water a few minutes before (for an additional 8 grams of fiber).

Thanks for all the ideas. Yesterday, I had steamed Brussels sprouts with flax and hemp seeds and today I had oatmeal, flax and hemp seeds and a teaspoon of molasses. Lunch was a version of Ann Esselstyne's Panini with hummus, mushrooms and spinach. I don't have a panini press so just toasted my Ezekiel bead. It was yummy. Tonight will be the Appetite for Reduction Tortilla Soup over greens instead of brown rice.

I'm one of those that reverses my meals; dinner for breakfast. I am trying to make that the meal I have meat at - to stabilize my blood sugar for the day. And, I am trying to make my other meals vegetarian. Eating foods in their whole, natural state will do wonders for lowering cholesterol.

I'd have to agree with Burr on this one. My science mind tells me to make sure you know the cause first. It could be the fruit or a variety of diseases (kidney, diabetes, thyroid-isms) or general obesity- eating too much. I really hope it is not disease, but going un-diagnosed can be worse.

High carbs can also give high Tri, so maybe just less carby fruits would help as well.

What did the DR say? Any advice there?

As for removing fruit- I agree with the others, go for something you like. The lentils on cereal sound awesome :).

I might question whether the fruit is really the culprit and try other strategies first.

The most effective health-care is self-care.

Nutrition is the prescription.

You can literally stretch your lifespan by shrinking your waistline.

Nutrition and other lifestyle factors that you can choose are a more significant determinant of your health than genetics.

Filling your stomach with high-nutrient foods is like by-pass surgery without the surgery.

We are all born with an innate desire to not only survive but thrive.

Good point Anne, we should get rid of those labels. They're all plant based meals.

Ditto. In fact usually no one would be able to name my meals "breakfast", "lunch", or dinner".

I agree with WaterDiamonds. Think outside the box. Think dinner for breakfast. I sometimes have salad for breakfast, sometimes sauteed veggies. This morning I had Kashi 7 Grain Pilaf with lentils. And I also sometimes have last night's dinner leftovers for breakfast.

What about eating something that is typically marked for lunch or dinner instead of the usual breakfast foods?

Although I don't eat salad in the morning because I eat it at the other two meals, many times something I've made from Eat for Health the evening before makes it to the table for breakfast. For example, I love the: vegetable stir fry, soups, enchiladas, burritos, eggplant roll ups, scrambled tofu and wraps as much in the morning as at any other time of the day.

I'll even eat a combo of some of the Eat for Health side dishes, such as: artichokes with dipping sauce or asparagus with black fig dressing, etc.

Hope this is of some help. I know your tri situation is troublesome, but I sincerely believe it will settle out eventually.

Since having the six month blood work recently and finding that most of my cholesterol numbers did go down a little bit (I was hoping for more), my real worry is that my triglycerides went up 150 points. Yes, you read that right 150. I wasnt expecting that. After some research, it seems that eating lots of fruit can indeed raise the triglycerides.

So, for the next six months before the next blood work, I need to further refine my diet with absolutely no oil and no refined carbs and little to no fruit in hopes that those changes will bring down the triglycerides.

Help me come up with other breakfast foods that leave out the fruit. That means no fruit smoothies. I can eat oatmeal, but not every day. I just need some other options.
