Walked my daughter's (somehow becoming my) dog for 46 minutes (per Fitbit). today helping my husband with yardwork. Was never able to do any of this until I started by water walking and little by little I am becoming more active!

I was working in a group home today and did lots of housecleaning - up and down the stairs a lot - they live in a townhouse with three levels of stairs. My feet are aching tonight!

Not very much 'doing' here today ...

10 min gardening/watering (for me this always means carrying the 2 gallon watering cans but I'll quit putting 'that' in - ha!)

20 min housecleaning

...the rest of the day I MELTED and SWEATED ... sorry, but this humidity and heat - and no fans or a/c - is not conducive to physical activity! No wonder there's so many pictures of people in hammocks under palm trees! ha!

been busy all day doing this and that's soo...

3 loads of laundry that required a trip to return each load up 2 flights of steps. so 3 trips up 2 flights of steps

picking manure and walking pasture doing this took 19 minutes

1 hour of watering flowers carrying one jug of water at a time i do this so i can get the steps in.

Marybeth - your Pound Down class/workout sounds like so much FUN!

Okay - I managed to work off a lot of that 'negative energy' today ...

50 min heavy housecleaning
8 min vacuuming
26 min gardening
15 min heavy yard work

I 'may' do a yoga workout in a bit - before it gets dark out - it's Stress Relief Yoga (sounds appropriate for me at this time - ha!)

Update/edit: I DID get the Stress Relief Yoga workout done! I've had this dvd FOREVER but I guess I've NEVER done this section of it ... not that I wasn't stressed back then - ha! There were several movements/poses I could not do due to knee situation but maybe someday with improvement and practice!

Sue - I think these exercises I've started are going to help strengthen my leg muscles and help support my knees better. Right now I have a bit of 'soreness' in a lot of these muscles that obviously were NOT getting a proper use before - ha! - so the knee pain seems less. I don't think that's a good goal - replace one pain with another - ha! But it will even out in the end ... when my muscles get stronger.

Today I did:

Gardening/watering - carrying 2 gallon jugs of water/1 each side 50 min
A.M. Yoga by Rodney Yee 20 min
Knee Strengthening Exercises (quads, abductors, adductors, hamstrings) 15 min
Chair Exercise Leg-Toning 2 min

water flowers carrying a 1 gallon jug of water filled many times for about 30 minutes.

pick horse manure for 20 minutes...this requires scooping it in a manure fork and walking it across the pasture to the manure pile and continuing until all manure piles are placed on the manure pile.

Vacuum the house for about 30 minutes

oh, i forgot about carrying a stepping stone which probably weighed between 5 to 10 pounds down a hill to cover Springs grave so no wild animals dig his little body up.

walk Panda for 30 minutes which our route is around 3/4 of a mile and half of the walk is uphill.

DJ...you did lots of exercising that is good for you. how are your knees doing since your fall?

Today I did some exercising ...

From SparkPeople:

13 min ... "5 Moves for Strong and Healthy Knees" - an illustrated article featuring exercises recommended by Dr. Thomas J Kleeman. These are REALLY good ... works your quads, abductors, adductors and hamstrings ... done on floor ... recommends a 2 min march in place warm-up and toe raises at the end.

7 min ... 20 Min Resistance Band Workout by Coach Nicole ... (seated chair workout) ... I only did the upper body part ... core and lower body followed but today the upper body was 'enough'

2 min ... Leg-Toning Chair Exercise by Coach Nicole ... she just demonstrates 3 movements ... you do it on your own

20 min A.M. Yoga by Rodney Yee (I needed this after doing the above - ha!)

My legs are really feeling the exercises ... I did some Thursday and then this today. I can tell the difference of focusing on specific muscle groups lieu of my walking in the past. My muscles are OUT OF SHAPE ... extremely ... so a little of the above goes a long way - ha!

shoveled horse manure for about 12 minutes and this tracked about 1/4 mile i walked.

took Panda for a walk about 7:30 pm...we walked over 3/4 of a mile.

Watered the garden this morning ... that is carrying 2 gallon watering cans (one in each hand) back and forth ... did 10 min today.

Started some exercises to strengthen my knees ...
12 min of "5 Moves for Strong and Healthy Knees"
3 min "Leg Stretching Routine on Mat" (Coach Nicole)

Mary Beth - good job on walking ... know it must be difficult since your fall.

Sue - you are one busy lady! I know how much work horses can be from taking care of my neighbors. You did good today ... all the watering, etc. etc.

I did another 10 min on the gardening and about 20 min 'heavy' housework ... in addition to what I did this morning ... that's all my knees could take today.

Glad you liked my idea of posting daily ... to keep me honest - ha! or just dreaming I'm moving/exercising - ha!

DJ....i like your idea on tracking your physical activity daily. it's also an incentive for me to try harder. the gardening can be a good work out. good way to keep moving.

Quenneville.. glad you got a walk in no matter how long or short. you did do some walking.

i did my usual barn work of picking horse poo and walking it to the manure pile and brushing my horse and spraying her for flies. speaking of flies today was a good day for killing flies. i have a fly swatter and i swat those buggers when i'm at the barn. i killed over 175 flies in about 1/2 hour. i don't count the ones i kill on my horse and then i do loose track and go back a few and well, i know i got them when i see them drop t the ground. i feel like saying tennis anyone as that is how i feel when i'm swatting those buggers. my saying is, "the only good fly is a dead fly". i vacuumed the basement and the main floor in the house, watered the flowers on the porch and pergola by carrying a 1 gallon jug about 10 times through the house and across the porch and the pergola.

didn't get my walk with Panda in though, but i did fill 3 hummingbird feeders and had to walk steps and around the back of the house to fill 2 of the feeders.

Chipping ice in the horses pasture and at the end of my walk for a total of about 20 minutes. i also brushed the horse and did some other barn work. went shopping in a couple of stores. walked the perimeter of each store. the only problem was the cement floors were hard on my knees.

after being out in the cold for about an hour doing barn work and outside work...i did laundry which requires i have to go between floors from 1st floor to basement. this was about all i could handle as my knees hurt today. had to sit down for about 1/2 hour and put feet up so i could finish supper. emoticon

Last night I did 53 minutes cardio total and 42 minutes of strength training on my core and arms. I also had the pleasure of a 10 minute walk outside before the snow hit again. I'm so glad I took to opportunity.

Today will be my light day and I plan to get 10 minutes cardio in to keep my joints lubricated. Unfortunately it looks like it will have to be at the gym.

Saturday I did a cardio warmup for 33min on the elliptical and Strength training 83 minutes. Yesterday I did 17 min walking, 11 minutes total stretching and 62min on the stationary bike.Today I rest so I'll be doing a short 10 minutes walking.

i also take Sunday's off when i can. yes, snow today and tonight. i have a dental appointment for a regular cleaning...i'm wondering if it will be cancelled or not. yes, i will be shoveling snow on Monday also. have a magnificent Monday.

Well, it is Sunday so I kinda had a day off. I played the organ at church, guess that's some physical activity. Climbed the stairs a few times throughout the day - I did a couple loads of laundry. I will be doing lots of shovelling tomorrow for sure.

i have been missing for a few days...lots i need to catch up on...

Mary Beth you sure had a work out getting ready for that bed.

my workout consists most days of walking in the snow and sliding around in it...brushing the horse and doing some light barn work. today i shoveled snow and did laundry which means i have to do stairs to get to the washer and change out the loads.

PANDABEAR42 Shoveling snow is quite the work out as well as a much needed accomplishment in these northern areas. I will be strength training today after warming up with some cardio. My big fear of taking a day off stems from making it so easy to keep doing that and not getting back to the gym. I guess I have a hard time setting routines.

i shoveled snow for 20 minutes this afternoon.

LDYSABELLA...we do need rest days especially if sore. you did quite a bit yesterday.
when i'm sore i take time off to recoup.

I warmed up on the treadmill, stretched out, and then rode the recumbent bike. Endorphins are real and they help so much with my pain.
