Don't give up, I suffer from heredity too. But doing what your doing helps.

I hope the kids learn as much from me as I do them.

I know exactly what you mean! Last year I was doing pretty good with all of that...my total cholesterol was 153, HDL 32, LDL 103 and Triglycerides 90. Then I moved to GA and began eating better but now my numbers are: 221, 43, 141, 187! Started research to find out why and discovered the main culprit is SUGAR and I don't even eat sugar! Sugar is in EVERYTHING! My "sugar" source apparently is wine, so I'm cutting way back on that. Anyway, I'm reading labels for Sugar, Cholesterol and fat. Ugh! I have a cholesterol med, but I'm not taking it....trying to do the food thing first. Oh, and I think I read that anything that makes the LDL and Triglycerides go up also has the ability to make the HDL go down or something to that effect.

Oh wow, that is discouraging, but think of it this way - where would your numbers if if you weren't doing the right things? And I've heard both good and bad things about eggs. It certainly can't hurt to not eat them until your next test to see if that helps!

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply. I did ask my doctor and he said possibly genetics. That is very discouraging to me because I am doing all the right things and eating foods to lower cholesterol and it makes me feel like what's the use. I have been eating two hard boiled eggs a day and he said that might have caused it to be elevated. However, I have heard so much about eggs not causing problems like they used to think they did and they take away my hunger. At any rate, I have stopped eating them everyday. I am hopeful the next time I have my cholesterol checked the numbers will be better. I will keep you posted. Thanks again!

That is puzzling. Have you asked your doctor? And if you get an answer, can you come back and tell us because I'm curious too!

I have lost 79 pounds since May of 2010. I have completely changed my way of eating. I eat healthy and exercise daily and eat foods that are supposed to lower cholesterol. Before making the changes and losing the weight, my cholesterol numbers were 205, good cholesterol was 61 and bad was 151. My triglyceride number was low but can't remember the exact number. Now, my cholesterol is 211, bad cholesterol is 156 and good is 43. Triglyceride number is 63. I am puzzled as to why the cholesterol numbers are worse than before and how my good cholesterol could have gone down from 61 to 43. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
