HI EnergizedBunny.

I just wanted to clear up a misconception on the Seattle Sutton Calorie counts. They have 2 plans 1200 or 2000 calories.

You sign up for EITHER 1200 calories for a week OR 2000 calories for a week. And, you can switch back and forth from week to week, but they don't package their food so you get 2000 one day and 1200 the next.

I have done Seattle Sutton off an on from a local distributor for the better part of 8 years. I HAVE noticed that my 1200 calorie week can very as much as 125 calories a day, but not 800 THANK GOD! LOL. I had a friend once get 2000 calories when she signed up for 1200. But, that's been a rare experience for me and my friends.

Marj, I'm not surprised to hear that you are still grieving. I think it takes a long time to get over the loss of a loved one. I hope one day you'll be able to think of him with more smiles than sadness.

My granfather was in his 80s...and his death was sudden. I admit I was one of his favorites and he was mine. I'm not done grieving, but I still have stuff to do and I know he was always proud of me when I got stuff done, with no whining. ;)

My name is Marj. I've been meaning to make a sig to that effect.

Chatoss, I'm very sorry to hear that your grandfather died recently. My 100-year old grandma died less than 3 weeks ago, and had been healthy and still going to her gym a few days a week until late in October, when she started having medical problems. I know she's not suffering anymore, so I am at peace with her passing. She was lucky to have 100-1/4 very healthy years, and only 1/4 year in bad health. It sounds like you have done well with Nutrisystem. Congrats for the 21 lbs. you've gone down since November. What is your first name, if you don't mind sharing that?

I started in November. However, I backslid a bit when my grandfather died before Xmas. I have lost 21 lbs since starting, and although I'm not always faithful to the plan, I do always remember that it works. So if I go crazy for a bit, I know I can just buckle down a little and get back on track. It's really the only thing that has ever really worked for me, and with two toddlers, I like having a bit of mystery taken out of my day.

I get Nutrisystem. It's affordable, tastes okay, and the support is great. I prefer the muffins and stuff for breakfast, some of the lunch soups are really good, and the dinners vary from pretty good to really bad. However, through the community you can find a lot of ways to jazz up the food. Also in my most recent box I got a bear. They send out a little beanie baby type bear for every ten lbs you lose. This is my second bear. :)

Thanks, Tema. That money for prescriptions is just for my co-pays, and it adds up to that much, so thank goodness for health insurance. I am pretty sure I'll be able to get off everything except one prescription after I get my weight way down again.

I just looked at Seattle Sutton's web site and it says everyone receives the same meals, but the total number of calories varies from 1200 calories per day to 2000 calories per day. So, there is no way for me to use that program. They don't have it designed for people who can't eat meat or poultry products. Too bad because otherwise their meals look good, and I saw that they have a free shipping deal going on now.

Tema, yes, I agree that Freshology is expensive, but we normally eat all of our meals at restaurants, so from that perspective, it will probably be a toss-up. I know it's a waste of money to eat out all the time, and that's also how I gained all my weight over the last couple of decades. The extra charge added on for shipping is what increases the price for me. But, I spend too much on prescriptions each month, and once I get this weight off, I'll save $500 a month on prescriptions! Most of them are probably directly related to my gaining so much weight. I want/need to drop 100 pounds to get back to my thin size from before pregnancy. So, I'm looking at the Freshology as an investment in my life and well-being. I looked at other food programs, but I haven't eaten ANY meat or poultry for over 40 years, and most of them that I saw (I'd never heard of Seattle Sutton) mostly show pasta for non-meat and non-poultry choices. I love pasta, but I wanted to include fish too, to help me lose weight. I did lose weight with Optifast a long time ago, and I've belonged to Weight Watchers for too long, without actually following their program. I've never had any other kind of meal delivery service.

Hi. I registered for Freshology Gold and they will FEDEX my first box so that I receive it this Friday (today is Tuesday). It is not frozen food, and is packaged to keep it fresh, without preservatives. They will deliver 2 packages to me each week. On Wednesdays I will receive boxes with 3 days of meals, and on Fridays I will receive boxes with 3 days of meals. I was going to initially register for 2 weeks of meals, but to save $100, I decided to register for 28 days for my first program. I hope to like it enough to keep ordering it. I just ordered it for me, not anyone else in the family. Since I haven't eaten ANY meat or poultry for over 40 years, they will be sending me vegetarian and fish meals. It is breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. It sounds like this program may have also included a snack in an earlier incarnation, but it's not listed as supplied now (wish it was). Have any of you tried Freshology Gold? The Freshology Silver is frozen meals. The Freshology Gold is fresh meals.

I had some good results with Bistro.. lost about 75 lbs... then got tired of frozen food and thought I could do it on my own WRONG... have put back 24 of those hard lost pounds.. and am trying to get my engine back in gear to do it again.. I have tried a lot of the meal del. plans and for me Bistro was the best and best price for what you got. Also I wasn't always hungry on their plan as I was with others that were tasty but way too many carbs for me ..
Anyway.. just my experience with Bistro.. Saping.. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did..

I am going to get into shape and enjoy the journey along the way. -recipes.sparkpeople.com/cookbooks.a

Welcome, Saping! It sounds like you have a good plan for using Bistro MD. A bit of advice about the exercise: If you're like a lot of us, you'll want to go whole hog and work out *way* too much at first. Then you'll hurt and want to quit and burnout on the whole thing. Start very small, with something like 10 or 15 minutes of exercise a day, every day. Once you have done this for a month, you will have created a habit of working out that you can build on.

I was about to go off on a long message giving you advice about how to ramp up your exercise over time. But instead, I'm going to set up a "Babysteps challenge"--look for it in our challenges section. I need to get back in the habit of exercise myself, so setting up the challenge will MAKE me do it this month. Would anyone like to join me?

Hi all :)

I just signed up for BistroMD and should get my first shipment in about a week.

Silly me, I didn't realize Seattle Sutton wasn't only available in.. Seattle. So I didn't even look at it. I'm confused about how it works though - my local distributor says they offer free delivery if you order more than 4 weeks. But will the fresh food keep for 4 weeks? Or are they expecting that order from a family or group?

I'll let you guys know how it goes when I get the Bistro MD box! I am pretty excited - this is the kind of meal plan I can stick to, and it actually sounds like the food will be significantly better than anything I eat now.

In the past I was just too busy or too lazy to cook and properly count calories. If I could figure out a good nearby restaurant to buy healthy pre-prep food I did, but options were so limited I'd get sick of eating the same meal 4-5 times a week. This almost sounds too good to be true, and I'm hoping that finally I'll be able to reach my "ideal" weight. I've been overweight all my life, and I can't even imagine how I would look/feel at an average weight. Not huffing & puffing up stairs would be a great first step. :P

My current weight is 220. My "goal" weight is 150 (I'm 5'10" tall female), so I have 70 pounds to lose. I don't exercise although I'm going to try and start.

My short-term goal is to lose enough weight over the next 4 mos for my family to notice when I go home for vacation. :) They've been worried about my weight (my entire family has a history of obesity and it tends to just get worse as we get older), and I know it'll make my parents very happy to see me slimming down.

Marie and Cyndie,

I took your advice. I cancelled eDiets (I'll still get food for next week - but that's okay) and I'm going to start Seattle Sutton the week of the 14th. It's just a tad bit more expensive but I think the better food will be worth it.

If you can afford Seattle Sutton, or, even better, if you're in a town where you can get it locally--go for it! I haven't tried it because I wasn't sure whether it would be worth the money for the shipped meals, from the reviews. I really did like BistroMD. The food was frozen, but tasted very fresh (like, plain simple large chicken breasts, not buried in sauces). The only thing I missed was salads and I ended up adding those now and then. It was also much more filling that eDiets. If you go for Seattle Sutton, let me know how it goes. I may try that one next winter. (I love fresh local produce, so I'm cooking my own veggies this summer)

Marie, so sorry bout your mom. I know having a sick parent adds a ton of stress.

Day 3 on ediets and I'm feeling hungry. I think I will need to supplement with vegetables and salad. So far, I think the food is okay - not great. I expected more because it's suppose to be "fresh."

If I really don't like it as I go, I think I might try Seattle sutton.

On the positive side, I feel better physically already! Not so bloated.

Welcome Cinger!

The turkey was one of my least favorites, both on ediets and bistromd. I don't know why, because I really like turkey. Keep us up to date on how it goes for you.

I'm sorry I haven't been in the clubhouse much lately. I was traveling and now my mom is ill (in hospital). I haven't been doing a delivery plan for a bit because of all the traveling (no microwaves in the hotels I was in). I've been doing fairly well on my own, considering the stress--no loss, no gain for a month or so.

How are all of you doing?

Hey ladies, I am so glad I found this team. I just started ediets today and so far, I liked breakfast (English Muffin Sandwich) but I was not keen on lunch (Oven Roasted Turkey with Cranberry Wild Rice Salad)

The turkey was not white meat (like it was advertised) and it was fatty.

I hope I like more of this food, I was reading reviews and I hope I am not disappointed.

Nice to meet you both - sounds like you are both doing well on these types of plans.

When I was making breakfasts, I'd do egg "muffins" with egg beaters, veggies and LF cheese. You make them in a muffin tin, and then you can freeze them and just pop them in the micro to heat them up in the morning. Here are detailed instructions: kalynskitchen.blogspot.com/2005/04/b

well just a comment.. I had a meal last evening and I can tell ( I now remember the feeling) that after having my meal I was full, satisfied and not LOOKING for some snack later.. Got up this morning and again NOT starved ..will have breakfast a little later. This is how the Bistro meals work with me.. Even out my hunger and satiety.

One thing to share as said I like egg or protein high breakfasts. and have found a number of easy 1-2 minute or less breakfast prep I got a little clamshell item at Walmart that makes the perfect round for eggbeaters I throw that in Microwave and toast up one of those Arnolds flatbread buns add one slice of canadian bacon and 1 slice of american cheese low fat.. and viola I have a Egg McMuffin.. in a total of 2 mins.
Anyone making their own breakfasts and if so what are you making ???

Oh one more thing that works well for me.. If EVER you are really overly hungry after a meal.. what I do is make a bowl of Oatmeal.. I find that if I get some fiber and warmth in it really cuts that feeling. I never thought to use oatmeal as a snack like that until another dieter shared that with me and now I keep pkgs of Quakers Weigh watchers maple and brown sugar oatmeal.. 2 min in the microwave and it is done.

Oh no! The pouches are SO much better than the trays. The meat is juicier and if you don't like the sauces, you can just leave them off. I may have to call and protest.

I'm with you on preferring eggs for breakfast. I like the bagels and such, but just leave off the syrup on the french toast and the crepes.

I had asked for as many pouch meals as they have.. I found they had the best taste and lasted if I had to leave it in the freezer for longer than expected. .. Darlene told me they were phasing out all the pouches.. and would only be getting the tray meals in the future. I used to like some fo their breakfasts but I am an egg breakfast eater and there were too mnay sweet breakfast items for me.

I am still hoping they will sell the little cheescakes as an add on item.. I LOVE them.. and living here in Florida I was able to locate them locally but after the economic downturn the store stopped carrying them. I really loved them.. and can't quite figure out how to make them on my own.

Mine came today, too. It looks like FedEx has figured out where I live now and is delivering on Thurs rather than Fri.

My content is pretty close to the same, with just a few differences, plus two days more than what you have.

On day 5, I have turkey bolognese instead of your arroz con pollo (which is great because I LOVE this meal). And for day 6, Rock Shrimp and day 7 Picadillo.

Dinners are the same, only I don't get pork so instead of bbq I have stuffed chicken with spinach and feta. And then my other dinner is stuffed chicken with apples and cherries.

In case you're curious about breakfast, here are mine:
bagel & cream cheese
french toast with peaches
frittata
English muffin w/ almond butter
fruit crepe
stuffed french toast
bagel w/ turkey sausage & egg

The stuffed french toast is because I don't like their protein muffin and hot chocolate breakfasts. The muffins sit like rocks in my stomach.

I haven't done that. I have talked to them on the phone and they were very helpful.

I don't know if they're following a weekly plan. Some foods have been repeated from week to week, but others seem a bit random. I know that the dietitian says she puts together each day's meals to balance the nutrition and that's why you should eat what they say on the day they say, but I haven't been on it long enough to see a pattern.

My box for the coming week won't arrive until tomorrow or Friday. Tonight's supper is "my night" but I think my DH and I are going out for lunch and then I'll eat lunch for supper. We're on a snow day from work, but our end of the county seems to have little or no snow on the ground.

Let us know what you've got in your box and we'll compare notes. I'm interested to see if everyone's week is the same, whether it's week 1 or week 4, or if they cycle through weeks with each individual.

well my box arrives today.. Hopeing that it has some of my old favorites . Question are they following a weekly menu plan ? or is it random I can't tell fromt the website It use to have a listing of the 6 different weeks and what week was being sent. Oh and I ran into something new on their site .. It is a kind of blog or something but it allows you to ask questions for the MD and the dietican.. Has anyone tried that and what response did you get ?

You can use a Swiss Miss Sugar free or lite cocoa mix. Doesn't give you as much of a protein kick but works just fine. For me the sweet chocolate flavor is a real satisfying mix. I dont'usually add sweetness to my coffee but this cocoa thing taste great to me.
One other thing I get and use as a snack is a Yogurt Berry Smoothie that I get from Diet Direct.. I LOVE THEM... and ton's of protein.

I did that with my last hot chocolate & muffin breakfast. Adding it to coffee really makes a yummy mocha thing. I called this week and cancelled my snacks and asked them not to send that meal again. I just don't like those heavy-as-rocks muffins. They're filling, but I'd so much rather have the eggy breakfasts. I'll miss the hot chocolate, though.

As a long time Bistro user I still LIKE the food.. now what I did was order my own snacks vs getting them from Bistro. I then get to choose what I want and still stay on plan. I get the snacks from Diet Direct.
One thing Bistro use to send was a hot cocoa mix. it was very filling and I would add it to a cup of coffee and have a great high protein mid meal snack or add it to my breakfast to increase the protein I am now getting it from Diet Direct. That little hot cocoa trick very helpful if you get a late evening craving. It satisfies both the hunger and the chocolate desire..In the evening, I use a decaf coffee and the mix. Warm and filling.

Wow, you're organized. I decided that since I know the calorie range, one of the benefits of doing BistroMD is that I don't have to track. But I guess it would be easy to do since I know what's coming on the week's menu and I can do it all at once.

I am eating chocolate pudding right now as a snack. Yum!

Thanks for the info. If the BistroMD doesn't pan out it will be good to hear if you are liking that one.
I emailed BistroMD and asked for the nutritional info on the non labeled items. Now I am able to log all my nutritional values here on SparkPeople and be aware of what is working for me (or not). I am entering them all in starting with "BistroMD..." so if you search for any of the snacks that way you should find them there. I haven't gotten them all in yet. But I will.

Hi Ladies!

So, I live in Southern CA, and there is a regional meal plan that is here and other places around the country, called "The Fresh Diet." I got a coupon for a vastly reduced rate on it, so I am going to try it at some point. If you call The Fresh diet website (google it) they will honor the discount tomorrow.

I'm not advertising for them, and I haven't even tried them yet, so I have no idea if they are good or not, but they have gotten good reviews on different sites, and since this board is all about Meal Delivery, I thought I would share.

Hope this helps!

Welcome Suz_zee! Are you enjoying the meals as much as I am? You'll have to tell me how the bbq is when you have it tomorrow. I opted out on pork, so I got a yummy chicken Italiano tonight, but I'm a little sorry to miss BBQ.

Customer service is awesome. The one time I had crushed muffins, they refunded the cost of them. (and the muffins tasted yummy, they just weren't muffin-shaped).

Any movement on the scale is good, and slow is healthier than fast, so keep up the good work!

Wow, sounds great! Glad you are enjoying your first shipment with Bistro MD.

My experience with eDiets is still going well. The scale is SLOWLY but surely making its way in the right direction. I'm enjoying the food for the most part, and still feeling full after meals.

The only thing that happened last shipment is that some of my food got damaged in transit. One lunch container was split almost in half, and one muffin was smashed. Not the end of the world, and this is the first time that I have had any problems (I have read many complaints on this online). I have found the customer service to be very good, so I think that they will either send me new food or reimburse me for the lost meals.

In the meantime, keep the reviews of Bistro MD coming! :-)

My BistroMD box arrived yesterday, and I started "Day 1" this morning. Everything looks really great, and breakfast and my morning snack were excellent.

Today's menu:
Breakfast: Omelet with veggie sausage patty and peaches.
morning snack: Proticino--an add-water-and-shake drink. Coffee flavored. It mixed up well and was nicely filling.
Lunch: Moroccan warm lentil salad. They describe it, "Green lentils are poached with bay leaves and whole cloves and are then paired with coriander grilled chicken, toasted sliced almonds, raisins, ground cinnamon, torn cilantro, and smoked paprika emulsion."
afternoon snack: BBQ soy snack
Dinner: Santa Barbara chicken. "Grilled chicken breast topped with a sweet fire roasted red pepper sauce. California vegetables and lentil salad."

I'll let you know how it all is, but I made another geeky spreadsheet: spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AmZ

Yeah, maybe the packaging has gotten better. Have they fixed the problem with putting the pickles in with the bread? Pickle-flavored soggy pita just didn't turn me on.

I just got my FedEx tracking statement from BistroMD. It looks like my first shipment will arrive on Friday. I can't wait. I'm doing some emotional eating this week that I simply need to get under control.

My problem is more about eating too much than choosing the wrong things. Although I *love* my carbs and fats, I generally choose decent whole grains and low fat cheeses, etc. I just eat way too much of them. I feed my mouth, not my tummy. I initially went on eDiets delivery because I was tired of planning, tracking, and grocery shopping. I've been on SparkPeople for over a year now, and I watched myself slipping into old habits this winter. It does help keep me from hibernation eating--shoveling carbs down because I'm cold and tired and it's dark. I'm continuing because my job has suddenly become a million times more stressful (in a fun and challenging way) and I don't have the mental energy to think about food.

I've heard really good things about Bistro MD - for me it was a toss up, and price won out, eDiets being the cheaper of the two. The portions are fine for me, but I agree with you about the veggies. I would like more of them, raw or cooked.

My problem has never been with eating too much, it's always been about choices. So, with meal delivery, I just eat what I get, add dairy and fruit when I can, and so far so good. I'm pretty good about remembering the fruit and dairy, but I do forget occasionally (and other times I am just not hungry for it!).

I love fruit too! We have a wonderful organic farmer's market on Sundays - today I got some delicious Asian pears, Fuji and Gala apples, and a basket of blueberries, strawberries and blackberries. Yummy!

I have insulin resistance, so I totally get what you mean about being at the lower end of the calorie scale in order to lose weight. I also try to make good choices, but to be honest, I need my carbs! That is what I love about the eDiets meal delivery, I get to eat a little of everything, and it is so convenient.

My muffins have always come in one piece - I think that they have gotten better with the packaging. I have only been a member for 2 weeks (well, I just got my second delivery, so one week and a few days). However, all the food has come in good condition, nothing crushed or spilled. Maybe I am just lucky?

Looking forward to your reports on Bistro MD!

Congrats on your 3 pounds!

I'm going on BistroMD. Their food is frozen, but it looks like there are more vegetables, and they claim to do filling food (and have two snacks)--I was hungry a lot on the eDiets program. (But I was also not great about getting my dairy in. I did the fruit, but seldom dairy). My metabolism is particularly slow, so in order to lose, I need to eat closer to 1200 than 1400 calories. (which totally sucks, believe me!) BistroMD's plan is 1200 calories, and as far as I can tell from the website, I won't have to add in anything. I'll probably still eat a piece of fruit a day, though, because I LOVE fruit (and it won't put me too far up the calorie range). I'm glad that you were happy with the quantity. My issue was mostly with the veggies--they're practically free food, calorie-wise, so why not give us more?

Did your muffins come in one piece? The only time I ordered muffins they were totally crushed. They did have a good flavor, though. If you get a chance, try the egg mcmuffin-y thing for breakfast. I pulled the bread out and toasted it and heated everything else up in the microwave before putting it together. I really liked that one. I also liked the bagels, although they're the tiniest bagels you've ever seen in your life. I toasted those, too.

I liked the flavor of almost all of the eDiets food. I can't wait to see how BistroMD stacks up.

Hi!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I promise to keep everyone updated on my journey if you all promise to do the same. I look forward to getting to know you! Marie, what program are you going to try? Just curious...

I am just finishing my first week on the eDiet Meal Delivery program, and I am very pleased, both in the quality and quantity of food. I was a little nervous before I got my first shipment, as I had heard mixed reviews on nearly everything I ordered, and was worried that the portions would be too small. I am happy to report that I enjoyed nearly everything I ordered, and some days I am struggling to eat all of the extra fruit/milk portions in a day because I am full! My calories this week have ranged from 1310-1380 a day, with the exception of Friday, when I only got up to 1149 kcal, but I just couldn't eat another piece of fruit!

I am also down 3 lbs since Monday!!!

Okay, here are my likes, dislikes, and suggestions based on this week:

Really Liked (could eat any of these all the time!)

* Cranberry Orange Muffin
* Blueberry Muffin
* All the snacks
* Baked Chicken with Cheesy Potato Casserole
* Bourbon Pork Loin and Butternut Squash Mashed Potatoes
* Turkey Roast with Wild Cranberry Rice Salad
* Meat Lasagna with Mixed Vegetables
* Roasted Garlic Tomato Soup (Perfect for the cold weather)

OK (decent, but not my favorite)

* Banana Muffin, Pumpkin Muffin (Ok, but a little too dry for my taste - the other muffins are better)
* Yogurt with Sunflower Seeds, Raisins, and Walnuts (Nothing wrong with it, but I eat this as my snack, so not the ideal breakfast)
* Hoisin Glazed Chicken Breast w/Chicken Couscous, Roasted Potatoes and Vegetables (Good but bland, needed salt on everything)
* Turkey Chili with Black Beans (Tasty, good for this weather, just not my favorite. A little salty)
* Spaghetti, Turkey Meatballs, Marinara & Broccoli (Good flavor, but Turkey meatballs have weird texture, & I'd like more sauce)
* Vegetarian Fiesta Lasagna (Not what I expected, a lot of beans, not to my taste)

Did NOT like (will not order again)

* Beef w/ Quinoa Pilaf & Carrots (Beef really dry, Quinoa tasted burnt - maybe I overcooked it? I followed directions on box. Needed salt to be edible)
* Roasted Pork Loin, Vegetable Ratatouille & Brown Rice (Pork dry, had weird flavor, Ratatouille watery & strange spicy flavor. Liked the rice)
* Turkey Roast with Savory Sweet Potatoes & Mixed Vegetables (Don't like peas, sweet potatoes have STRONG onion flavor, turkey dry)
* Turkey Bolognese w/Rice Noodles and Corn (The worst by far. Strange taste, weitd consistency, smelled funny. Liked the corn)

As for my suggestions -

I wish that all the lunches and all the dinners on a given week were pooled together, and could be chosen for either lunch or dinner. I am almost afraid to ask for this, because I would hate for the selection to lessen. I am happy with the selection for now, and I am finding a lot of meals that I am interested in trying, as well as a number of favorites, as you can see. But sometimes I find eight or nine great lunches, and only 5 dinners that interest me. It would be nice if I could choose from both lists for each meal.

I'll keep updating as I try more meals. I'd love to hear other people's ratings of eDiets meals as well.

Welcome Time2Lose Now! We're a small team, but I hope to grow over time.

I've been travelling a ton in January, so my eDiets meals have been on hold...and I've gotten behind on my teams. But I'm back now and ready to go!

And, actually, I'm going to try out another diet delivery plan starting this week. Someone scammed my credit card right before I left on my last trip--which means that I need to give eDiets my new number before they'll deliver again. While I've "cancelled" eDiets, I thought I'd check out this other plan that I've been curious about. I'll probably make another spreadsheet and post a link to that, too.

Keep us up-to-date on your experience with eDiets.

Marie

My order just came in from eDiets. I was concerned about the snacks because I could tell they were all pre-packaged from the menus I looked at when ordering--but you get no choice in which snacks you get. But it looks like all the snacks are natural, with no preservatives. No sugar alcohols, just real sugar and whole food ingredients.

I'm keeping a google docs spreadsheet of all the foods I'm receiving and my comments. You can see it at:
