All things in moderation. It is fine to eat a snack before practicing yoga postures, though best not to eat a meal right before a class. Just picture yourself enjoying the stretch in a forward fold, and you'll see why you wouldn't want a full stomach right then.

Hi JennyLee: I agree that Yoga Journal is a good resource. There are lots of different types of yoga. My favorite is Kundalini. I am not sure if you are in an urban or rural living environment, but you may want to invest in some GIAM dvds. They are pretty cheap ($9-$15) and really good. If you are in an urban area you could find different studios that offer different types of classes.

You should not eat within 2 hours of yoga, due to the twisting and bending you will do. Some yoga masters suggest doing yoga first thing in the morning on a an empty stomach.

benefits are numerous - physical and mental strength, flexibility and focus :)

I am thinking abt starting yoga but i haven never tried it in my life , i was wondering of anyone can enlighten me on this topic, abt the health benefit and everything else...Also i prefer to exercise in the morning on my days off but i usually dont eat breakfast till after workout...is it better to try to eat before or after workout? thanks!
