How's is everyone doing? What are your goals for February?

For me January was nice, lost 5 lbs total and stuck to my fitness routine to a T... And goals for February: 1) keeping up the fitness routine and posting weekly my progress/schedule. 2) healthy eating most of the time and making better choices when I eat out, 3) hide the scale and only weigh in once a month!

Never give up on something you can't go a day without thinking about.

Hey everyone!

I've been doing well on my healthy breakfasts resolution.

Exercise is so-so -- I have not been fitting it in enough the past week or two. I think a few times I went for a walk and forgot to track, though. Maaaaybeee? ;-)

GF and I had a nature hike all planned out and then it was sooo cold and there was a chance of rain, and we decided not to go. We did take a long walk in the city, though. But I need to remind her that we need to take our nature walk!

Eating well and moving around feels great!

I am trying to stay on track, diet and exercise. I have been getting the diet in line again, but the exercise needs more focus.

I have actually been doing great. My eating is on track almost everyday. And i have been working out everyday...some days I lift and other days i just do cardio. Today is a cardio day...I am going to walk to the gym which takes 30 minutes, ride the eliptical for 15 and bike for 15 and finish it off with some abs. I have lost 3 pounds so far and feel GREAT!!!!

Glad to hear you're still around, Kelly! Sorry life's been busy! And yeah, snow sucks!

Things are going well over here... also slacked off on tracking over the weekend, but no damage was done... also no progress was made -- but I'm back on track this week. I've been sticking with my workout schedule to a T, taking the stairs everyday (it's become a habit-I don't even think of the elevator anymore), am getting in my water, and am back on track with eating. My running is upped to week 4 of C25K, which is always challenging for me to get through, but I was EXHAUSTED yesterday and still made it, so I have confidence that I will make it through this week :)

Also -- Kelly, I am currently eating a quinoa dish that is amazing (http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/recipes/qu
ick-recipes/dinner/7-fat-fighting-dinn
ers/?page=7) ... I added shrimp, and it has feta cheese in it, which I realize you probably can't eat being vegan, but the flavors are awesome, and probably would be without the cheese/shrimp too!

Never give up on something you can't go a day without thinking about.

Hello Team! How is everybody doing?

I've totally been "slacking" on my tracking this week. I had a substitute teaching job that has been keeping me really really busy. Excuses Excuses!!! Even though I'll still be teaching next week, I'm resolving again to start tracking again with breakfast tomorrow. So far it hasn't hurt my progress, but I know it is only a matter of time....

The running and yoga are going well. Running has been challenging on account of the recent snow in Belgium! But we've been "braving" it anyway.

I'd like to hear how the rest of you are doing! Happy Friday!!!!

Working on a budget (checking out the sparks program for now). Diet wise back on track. Realized I had gotten off my normal daily salad & yogurt routine. Definitely needs to be back in my diet!

Your kitchen isn't heated?! That blows! But glad to hear you're doing well otherwise.

My goals are steady -- I've been getting my 8 glasses of water in each day and cutting back on using artificial sweeteners and diet coke. I actually had a diet coke with snack in the afternoon yesterday and it sent me into a carb frenzy -- I know it's terrible for me but I feel like I need the caffeine in the middle of a 4 hour class sometimes. I think I'm going to bring a coffee pot to my office and do this instead for those moments. For the gym, I made a plan and have been sticking to it. My next step is to sign up for the 5K at the end of April and stick with the training for it. And I've been tracking my food this week as well. Had a few "off" days, but overall feel good about my food choices. The scale didn't budge this week (after showing a 3lb loss last Friday). I've worked out for the past 3 days straight though so I think my body is holding onto water to feed my muscles... I'm not discouraged and will keep at it!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

How is everybody doing? What are your challenges in sticking to your goals? Are you enjoying yourselves? Check in with us and tell us how you are doing!!

I'm doing pretty well. I'm finding food tracking to be a little more difficult for me this year. I'm managing it, but I need to evaluate my nutrition I think. Winter is hard for me because my kitchen isn't heated, so it takes extra willpower to make good food. I'm managing to keep up the rest of my program, though....

Happy Sparking everyone!!

I love the idea of Game night with the family. These days it is so easy to have everyone off doing their own thing versus actually interacting with each other.

So on Facebook someone posted a 52 week saving program. Very simple - 52 weeks starting with $1 for the first week and increases by a dollar each week. By the end you have $1378 saved. Soooo I am going to try to double it. It seems doable although it may be a bit tough come the last few weeks of it since it is during the holiday stretch but hey it may be good incentive to actually budget better during that time period too!

Well I have already fulfilled my first resolution and that was to take the first step to lose weight - I signed up to this website, bought a ton of fruits and veggies, printed out some healthy recipes and went on a 30 minute walk - all in the last 3 days. My other two are to find a hobby - I use to be really athletic but this weight is holding me back and to have game night at least twice a month with my kids

KIERAE and SKINNYRACH22 - Fantastic!!

KIERAE, I particularly love that you are throwing something non body-health related! Financial health is so important too!! And in the long run can impact stress levels and come full circle to body-health :-) Did you know that SP has a financial site as well? All the money tracking, advice, teams, etc that we have come to love from SP but about money. www.sparksavings.com/

Congrats on your 6 years of South Beach and maintenance! Happy Anniversary of that too! :-)

SKINNYRACH22 - great goals! WW is super good at helping you to follow your calories! How are you planning to work out? Do you go to a gym? Walk outside? I'd love to see some specifics about your plan. Happy New Year!

Hmmm I will have to ponder some goals. Ironically the best resolution I ever made AND stuck to it was 1/1/2007 when I committed to losing my weight and started eating South Beach Diet style. 6 year anniversary and I have kept the weight off although I am currently at the high end of my maintanence.

So one goal is to get myself back to the gym. I quit going when I started walking Marley 6-7 days a week. Now that the weather has changed, I walk her 4 days and the boy walks her the other 3 days. So I am going to add back the gym & treadmill. I will start with one day/week initially and then decide if I will increase it up to 3 days.

Another goal is more along the lines of a financial diet. I need to try to pay down some credit cards. This will be a huge endeavour but hey baby steps - no different than losing weight.

It's a start!

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. Agatha Christie

I am on the WEBMD and on sparkpeople. I have gotten some books and amup for all articles and any other things out there. I am finding it very fascinating.
I DO have a pedometer and I LOVE IT! Between that and the spark food diary it keeps me honest about what I am doing and eating. If I find cool things I will totally let you know. I would definetly tell you to get a pedometer. You don't have to spend a lot of money and they have tons to chose from on amazon.

Hey Sarah! I love your 3rd goal because it is something that will serve you for the rest of your life!!!! How fantastic! How are you going to go about doing that? SP? Books?

If you want some great veggie recipes, let me know! I'm vegan and my meat-loving parents both love my recipes. Happy to share! ;-)

Oh, and what is the distance of 10000 steps?? do you use a pedometer? I've been thinking about getting one.

Yay Bonnie and Kelly - you both have set excellent and attainable goals! Yay for getting back on track and continuing your commitments!

Bonnie - I love your goal of more foam roller massage! I might add this to my program as well! I also like that you are restating your current program of biking. A re-focus is so valuable now and then! I also love that you are adding in the practice of being compassionate with yourself! So important!!!!

Kelly - So glad to see you are back!!!!! I'm with you on your water drinking and tracking! I've added some herbal tea to replace some of my water (no caffeine and warm and comforting for the winter months! I'm enjoying a hot cup of ginger lemon right now :-) Your yoga class commitment is a great way to add some structure to your fitness routine during busy grad school days (boy I feel your pain on that!). Well done!

Come back in a couple days and let us know how it is going!!! :-)

Hey everyone! So I fell off the face of the planet at the end of last semester... I've been able to mostly maintain my loss, so I'm counting it as a victory. But, I'm not at my goal yet and so I've decided to hit the "reset" button before the next semester starts on Monday. This month, I'm making the commitments to myself to 1) drink 8 glasses of water per day before drinking any soda (diet) or coffee... Coffee in the am doesn't count, 2) Get back to the gym... The gf and I started doing this on Saturday when we got home from overindulging on the holidays... I signed up for a yoga class that meets once weekly so I will keep that appointment each week and work an additional 3 at least 30 minute workouts in as well, and 3) track food intake for the whole month. Hopefully this will get me moving in the right direction!!

Never give up on something you can't go a day without thinking about.

I will continue my daily commitment to riding the exercise bike for half an hour, writing my morning pages, and walking my puppy love. I would also like to add more foam roller massage and more yoga to undo all of the stress in my body. My big goal for this year is to find more compassion and kindness for myself in my self talk.

Excellent!!! Thanks for taking time to share your resolutions!

I love that your resolutions are focused and attainable - healthy breakfast, hiking, and tracking!!! Way to go!

I think this really the spirit of a successful resolution/goal!

The idea is just to help us refocus into health in the new year - not to take on huge challenges, so great job in finding the balance!!!!

GO KELLY122581!

I am not up to making big resolutions right now, but am taking some simple steps to maintain health...

1) I will get back to eating healthy breakfasts before work. For January, I'm getting back to quinoa with soy yogurt and fruit most mornings. I'm going to plan / cook on the weekends so I can have healthy breakfasts and lunches on workdays.

I'm not going to hold myself to doing it every single day. Aiming to prepare breakfast for M-W, and if I have cereal or grab something on the way to work on Th and F, that will be okay.

2) My girlfriend and I made a resolution to go for a nature hike at least once a month in 2013. We need to do some planning to make sure this happens.

3) This month, I will get back to tracking fitness and will do more walking so I at least meet my goal of 135 minutes per week. It's not much, but that is where I'm starting right now.

Eating well and moving around feels great!

My Resolutions!

1) I will run 3 times a week - trying to stick to my schedule of Tue/Thur/Sun
2) I will track my food on SP - EVERY DAY in January
3) I will go to a yoga class 2 times a week (and try to do 3 sun salutations every morning)

Happy New Year!!!

Edit: I just want to clarify that these "resolutions" are simply exactly what I was doing last year, but I got distracted from over the holiday. So I'm just refocusing myself here.

Hi Team! I hope you had great holidays with lots of love from friends and family. Hopefully you were able to stick to your healthy lifestyle strategies through the holidays, but if you are like me and slipped up a little bit, now is the time to get back on track!

For our January challenge we would like to invite you to list your New Years resolutions (if you didn't make any, think of some now!). Then over the next month, stop back in every week and tell us how it is going.
emoticon

Try to give 2-3 achievable and realistic ACTION goals. What I mean by this is DON'T simply say "I want to lose weight" , instead DO say "I want to attend 3 fitness classes a week" etc.

Resolutions are just goals and strategies. We hear a lot about people breaking their resolutions a few weeks into the new year - but here at SparkPeople, we know how to achieve our goals!!! With the support of your team mates, you will be able to carry your resolutions well past the next few weeks.

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!!!! Let's get this party started! :-) emoticon
