Zumba rocks !! You just have to find the right instructor. An energized crowd doesn't hurt either ! I discovered a local class by word of mouth and I love it ! Amber, you brought up another suggestion: the buddy system to get a person started and sticking with an exercise program. I'm curious to hear from the rest of the team. What's everybody up to ?

I discovered Zumba last night and I'm hooked! It's so fun it doesn't feel like exercise but you sweat a LOT! :) My mom and I tried it out and tonight my twin sister and I are going to do it. Other then Zumba I still do the weight circuits, treadmill to get my heart rate up and get warmed up, and usually finish with stationary bike and stretching!

Great suggestions Barb!!! Remember even 10 minutes of exercise is better then nothing. Also if you can't commit to 30 minutes or an hour a day break it up into increments through the day. You would be surprised about how much that walk around the block or taking the stairs every chance you get really adds up! I've been going to the gym 3-4 days a week. I usually do cardio either with the elipital machine or treadmill speed 3.5 incline 5 for 20 minutes, stretch for 5 minutes once I'm warmed up, do the weight circuits, stationary bike, and end with stretching. Usually it's an hour to a hour and a half. It's hard to get motivated sometimes especially after work but I go with my mom and sister so that really helps keep me accountable! Besides, once I'm there I really reap the benefits of letting go of the day and feel much more relaxed after my work out!

Hi Barb,

This past week has been kind of weird for me. I've been battling a horrible cold so I only made it to the gym. I did 34 minutes on the stationary bike, did the weight circuits doing 2 reps of 15-20 depending on the exercise, and stretched. I also helped my sister pack up her room and pack boxes up and down stairs to the car and unload them into my house for 4 hours so that was definitely a work out. I hope to get back into the gym this week but I'm taking it slow. Hope you have a fantastic week!!

Thanks Barb! Sorry I've slacked on keeping up with my workout posts. I've just been going to the gym 3-4 times a week and doing cardio for about 20-30 mintues, stretching, doing the weight circuit once but doing reps of 15-20 3 times, cooling down on the stationary bike for 30 minutes, and stretching again. :) It works great, burns 200-300 calories and I relieves my stress. We, (my mom, sister, and I) are also starting Zumba this Wednesday which will be fun and terrifying all at once but should be a great time. Let me know if you need encouragement. I know I'm here for you anytime! :)

Quick update on my 20 minute exercise challenge,

Monday-just cleaned so I just got in light exercise. 20 minutes

Tuesday- didn't do a workout-watched my nieces

Weds- went to the gym for an 1 hr 45 mins-started with cardio for 34 mins (walked on treadmill for 34 minutes incline 2 speed between 3.4-3.7) did 1 rep each of the circuit machines including ab crunches, leg presses, biceps, lats, ect.. and finished with stationary bike for 32 minutes doing hill intervals.

Thursday- carried 10 lb boxes upstairs to deliver food to my residents 30 mins

Friday- going to the gym tonight..will update later tonight

Hi Barb,

WAY TO GO on getting in 10,000 steps a day. That's my goal. I actually purchased a pedometer and go out of my way to walk as much as possible. Having the pedometer has made me realize even though I walk I definitely need to step it up. I take a break and walk around the apartment complex's grounds that I manage and I have been doing Turbo Jam. I start going to the gym with my mom tonight. So excited to have my mom and sister working out with me. It gives us a chance to get healthy together and spend some quality time together at the same time! YES, we WILL do this!!! Failure is NOT an option! Have a fantastic weekend!

Doin o.k., I haven't gotten on the yreadmill this week, but I have logged over 10,000 steps each day. You should get a pedometer ! All those extra steps add up and if I don't get to 10,000, I try to walk around the block or take extra steps at school. It's fun. You can get pedometers pretty cheap T Modells, sports authority, etc.
Sounds like you're doin well. We WILL do this !!

Hi Barb! It sounds like your doing a great job at getting in your exercise. I haven't been able to do my work out video like I wanted to but I have been walking and cleaning like crazy. I walk at least 5 mins every 1 to 2 hours and take the stairs at the apartment complex I manage when I have to go to the 2nd level. I'm in the process of getting our treadmill put back to together so I can start the couch to 5k program. Keep up the great work! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Ok...busy weekend so I didn't get a chance to log on but Friday I vacuumed for our entire building for an 1 1/2. I also did little bits of exercise Saturday and Sunday. 10 mins of walking Saturday and Sunday putting away dishes and cleaning for 30 mins. Today I will be walking since we're going to be having dinner downtown with some friends visiting from Virginia. How did the Turbo Jam go? I haven't had the chance to do it yet but I'm bound and determined tomorrow for sure. Slow and steady...just feel great moving more! Way to go on walking on your lunch hour! :)

Sounds like a plan ! I have Turbo Jam, but haven't done it in awhile. I'm going to dig it out tonight and do it this weekend ! Thanks for reminding me. I'll also get some extra steps at work by walking on my break instead of sitting (and wondering what I can eat - LOL) Have a great day ! We will do this !!!

Way to go!! That's a great goal to strive for! I just started yesterday and it went great. I actually spent 45 mins shoveling snow last night as my work out. Man, that was hard work! I rented Turbo Jam from the library so that's what I'm going to do tonight along with take a break every hour from my desk and walking up and down the stairs.

I guess I'm not a very good "poster", but last week I did 3 workouts with my daughter. I introduced her to my old turbo jam stuff and we had a good time.
