I do not do much posting but I like the goals, except the water and that's because it is hard for me. Even if I alter one meal, I consider it a new recipe, hope that counts.

The possibilities always outnumber the problems.

I didn't do it that way exactly, but I've ended in the same place! I gave myself the goal of a different color in each corner of my plate. It's not just a matter of presentation; different nutrients make the different colors so we don't have a truly healthy diet unless we include alll of them.

I was reading some of the old posts here and saw discussion about how to get color on the plate. In one of my other teams, one of the challenges was to get 5 colors of freggies (fruits or vegetables) in the day. Perhaps you'd like to try some variation of that.

Chrsmys - thanks for the feedback!

All - the goals have been updated. I've modified the new recipe to 3 times per month, which takes the onus off of doing it once a week, but is close enough to once a week for those that like the once a week. It's hard for me to do it once a week, but I've been doing it more often and think it's a good thing. Just hard to get in that mode some weeks.

I added a Eat at home 3 times per week goal. This is nothing fancy and does include re-heating leftovers. The goal is to eat what you have - hopefully good for you stuff.

And, last but not least, I deleted the 8 glasses of water goal. It's an overall SP goal and almost every team has it.

I will also be creating threads for the new recipe and eat at home Challenges for folks to let us know how it's going.

Thanks again for helping me out!

Hi, I'm new to the team. It may too late for feedback on team goals, but thought I'd offer some up anyway.

I agree the water each day goal could easily go away. If you belong to more than one team, you can't get away from it.

Trying out one new recipe a week is one of my personal goals. with the caveat that I make it one new HEALTHY recipe a week. I'll admit, it's not always easy to get 1 new one a week, even when I sit down on Sundays to plan the week's meals.. life happens and that meal plan has to adjust accordingly.. but I do my best, and we've really benefited.

To carry that one step further, it might be nice to have a goal of posting a review of one of those new recipes.. maybe once or twice a month? Include the recipe, or a link to it if one is available.

I would LOVE a cooking meals at home goal, even if it was just once or twice a week.

I also like the 5000 steps a day goal. It's not cooking related but still health related, and not as daunting as the 10,000 steps a day most teams have, especially if you're just starting out.

LOL. Well, chuckling. I have a friend who cooks much better than I do and she's all about making it look good, so I'm starting to learn some stuff about "presentation for her." She pointed this out when I took lunch today and it included carrots (believe it or not I've eaten them raw, but never cooked them with a glaze, which I enjoy). Anyway, she pointed out that my carrots also added color to the meal. I'd never really thought about it, but that's why does wild rice at times - it's a texture and a color variation to the plate.

I'll think about how to make "presentation" something for a goal. But, your right - that's kind of hard to define.

I put together healthy meals and then I see it on the plate and realize it's all green or all beige. If I do that all the time, I'm really not eating a healthy diet over all even if the individual ingredients are good ones. I can't figure out a way to wrap 'get a variety of colors in your diet' into a goal, though.

I thought I'd modify the recipe one to 3 times per month and create one for eating/cooking at home. I'd had an idea for a third one along these lines, but it escapes me right now. Something to let people choose from.

Thought I'd give it another day to see if anyone else replied. Hoping to have the new goals up by Saturday.

Love the feedback. Remember, you don't have to participate with all goals. Even as team leader, I don't really do all of them. I was thinking of several, esp with the cooking, so members could choose one or two best suited for them.

There are sites that help you estimate your steps, but you are right - it not only all but requires a pedometer but that you carry it with you. And, I'm odd. I only count non-ordinary steps. My pedometer is in my purse, so if my purse isn't with me, steps aren't counted.

Thanks!

I don't want to change the new recipe goal to once a month. I enjoy trying new ways of cooking a particular food all the time. A new recipe doesn't have to be complicated. It can be very simple, just a few ingredients. It's combining the same things you eat all the time in new ways. If we change it from once a week, I'd rather see it two or three times a month, not just once.

I do like the 5,000 step challenge because I have a better chance of achieving that than the 10,000 step SP challenge. I'd rather not change that one at all.

I cook all my meals I have never liked frozen meals. I have been trying new recipes just made one last week. I love veggies and have been trying new ones and have found several that I really like.
I think that left overs should be counted as a cooked meal. When there is just one or two of you its hard to cook for just one person with out having left overs. I have a few meals that I have frozen because I got tired of eating something and with the price of food didn't want to waste it.
I made chili today and have enough left over for the next couple of day.
I have never been a water drinker but I have made I won't say a resolution but I have said I am going to try to drink more water. My main drink is tea.
I don't like the 5000 step one because you have to depend on a pedometer and I have had several and I don't find them very accurate.

I'm new here, but if I were asked, I'd say yes, reheated meals count as home cooked meals because the meals were home cooked to begin with. Every time I cook a meal, I try to cook enough for two meals for the two of us. I just posted a recipe last night for stewed chicken with intentional leftovers.

I'm not so sure about trying new recipes. I'm a picky eater (and hate veggies, so I'll have to force myself to eat them) and more often than not, I'm reluctant to try something new, especially if I don't have the ingredients on hand (we're trying to live on just our social security checks, and they don't go very far especially at the gas station or the grocery store).

I like the modification of the one new recipe to once a month - it's hard to gather up things to try new recipes and once a week is hard for me.

And, I'm glad we'll count re-heating as that might help others go with doing a little for leftovers. I struggle with just the right amount for leftovers so I don't get tired of them.

Thanks!

I think that 1 new recipe a month would be more realistic than one a week. I have tried 2 this week, but I am on vacation.

I like eating home cooked meals as a goal. Whether I cook them or my husband does, does not matter. Reheating should definitely count. Planned leftovers is a good plan!

I like the goal of cooking a certain number of meals a week. I think the leftovers could be counted as a cooked meal, since they weren't commercially produced and bought ready-made.

Happy New Year everyone! I thought this might be a good time to evaluate the team goals. There are currently three - try one new recipe each week; drink 8 glasses of water, and walk 5,000 steps per day.

Should we re-vamp these? Almost every team has the drink 8 glasses of water as a goal, plus it's also an overall SP goal so I was thinking about deleting that one and adding another one.

In addition to the try a new recipe, I was thinking about one along the lines of simply cooking a meal so many times a week or even just eating at home if that's something some struggle with. I gave up frozen dinners about a year ago, so I am cooking more. Not sure if the cooking at home would include re-heating left overs (my recent new recipe will actually go in the freezer, when I make room, as it will provide leftovers for quite some time).

Thoughts on this? Suggestions for team goals? Any that come in, I'll wait for feedback to see what others think.

Thanks!
