I agree. Goals shouldn't always be about weight loss. However, I'm also trying to avoid goals that require daily checking in or something like that. It's hard for a lot of folks to login everyday and catch up can be a bear. I've tried that and really almost gave up on monitoring goals all together. I could track them mentally, but physically tracking became and chore and it shouldn't be.

I like the article idea, especially since with the blogs there are now plenty of ways to read articles and get the points. I'll look at that for next month's challenge.

What about other goals? Like taking a multi-vitamin? Or birth control? Or moisturizing daily? Or reading one of the articles on here? I like goals that don't ALWAYS have to do directly with weight loss, because I don't want to measure success/failure by ONLY that. I tried to make sure I had plenty of "OTHER" goals so that even if I had a rough week with meeting the goals surrounding weight loss, I had other positives to look forward to.

I used to have this job at a foodcourt in a mall.. and we were only busy on saturdays.. So we did a lot of standing around the rest of the time.

And while i stood there, waiting for customers, I'd squeeze my buttocks, and hold for probably a 5 count and then release. I'd do it 10 or 15 times and then I'd just do one side at a time..

So thats a simple toning exercise that you can do while standing in line at the grocery store or while you're doing laundry or dishes or whenever

Something I need to do is eat more fruit. I like fruit, but I don't always crave sweets, so it usually ends up going bad.. So Im resolving to incorporate more fruit into my daily intake.

Something my physical therapist told me was to do lunges when walking and vacuuming. My balance is not so good,I use a cane, but the squats sound like a good idea if I have something to anchor me.

Those were all good ideas and doable.

Other ideas on that exercise thing I saw were things like doing purposeful squats when picking up things off the floor, doing side leg lifts while standing at the cupboard doing dishes and/or cooking, heel lifts at that time, weights with the laundry basket...I'm sure there are lots of other ways.

Great ideas! I hesitate on the veggie of the month simply because I don't like most veggies and I worry there might be other picky eaters on the team as well.

However, we could definitely do something like eat 2-5 veggies and maybe combine that with a couple of veggies of the month - seasonal. Picky eaters could choose to try or just not do that portion of the challenge.

Cherlyn - I like the idea about housework as exercise as "heavy" housework is in the fitness tracker. Thoughts on this? I know that my vacuum cleaner weighs 23 lbs (though I love it) and I don't vacuum everyday, but once every couple of weeks. When I was doing the whole house, I definitely counted it as exercise (fortunately I don't mind vacuuming). But, that's about all that comes to mind. Also, gardening and other yard work can be exercise.

I'm always nice to strangers as you never know what kind of day someone is having, but I particularly like the "be kind too yourself" as many of us can guilt ourselves over the smallest little things.

Keep the ideas coming! I'm definitely going to hunker down and figure out to actually set these as team goals each month so we can sign up that way in addition to a discussion in the Challenge Forum.

I kind of like the idea of a veggie of the month, something seasonal and local. And one of my personal goals is to greet/say something nice to at least 3 people everyday, including myself!

I believe in taking a positive attitude toward the world. My hope still is to leave the world a little bit better than when I got here.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing you're looking for, but the other day on one of the talk shows there was a fitness person showing a homemaker different ways of making her daily routine chores into exercises. I was thinking it could be fun for everybody to post a new way that they made daily activities into exercises. ??? Sound like anything you want?

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year.

We did several different types of challenges last year and I'm looking for ideas for this year. It can be anything from nutritional to fitness.

Last year we challenged ourselves to eat breakfast, stay within our ranges for fiber and protein, try new recipes, and exercise.

Please let me know what you would be interested in for a challenge topic.

Thanks!
