One of my regular workouts now have pushups, so I've been mullling over how to continue. I had topped out on the program but still couldn't do the 100 emoticon

So I've changed my goal to be doing 3 sessions of pushups per week, 1-2 will be in my strength training rotation and I'll add in another. I'm going to start trying to do traditional pushups and just do as many as I can, and keep increasing the amount by a few more each workout.

emoticon Wednesday - 10 traditional, 60 second rest, 5 more traditional.

Friday - 2 sets of 15 traditional (New Rules for Lifting) with 120 second rest in between.

Okay so I'm starting this New Rules for Lifting routine and on one of their workouts I'll be doing pushups. For that workout I did 10 traditional pushups and the last five modified.

I think I'll change this challenge up for me and start doing pushups 3x a week (1-2 will be with my New Rules for Lifting routine) and do as many traditional pushups I can do first.

My abs routine - 10 minute solutions Flat Belly Fast segment, also does pushups and planks and boy I can feel my belly!

With the plank AB exercise she has you go into plank and then do a tummy tuck and hold for a count of 10. Give a try!

WTG Ann! That's awesome!

Today I had to do 2 sets of 15 pushups for my New Rules for Lifting for Women workout and decided to try manly pushups OHOOOOOOOOO

Ended up doing 10 traditional, and 5 bent knees. The 10 about KILLED ME! I'll keep trying though but I can tell you it's going to be SLOOOOOOOWWWWWW!

Did anyone catch The Office last night? Michael Scott did 25 pushups and 1 'girlie' - anyone who could do more, could go home for the day! Stanley won - Michael said that was because he had an advantage being heavier, it made it easier for him to go down... What about going up???

Hm now today was harder! This sucks!

One thing I've noticed from hubby and I both doing it, is that it is easy to injure your back, especially if you have a stomach that is weak. Always select form over amount or depth of the pushup or you can put yourself in to some serious trouble.

Honestly Ann I feel like I keep sliding backwards! I was doing 130 better two weeks ago then I am now! I do know that around my time of month I get physically weaker and more tired - I've had it happen too consistently to say it is just my imagination.

On doing wall pushups vs. modified or whatever, you can still participate in the challenge with whatever type of pushup you want to do! I want to keep it open to anyone at all levels or type of pushups.

Hubby is still doing the standard pushup. Personally I don't know how he does them - I would probably be able to do 10 now - MAYBE - after all this time. He is continuing and for him, being a Geek, that is fantastic! I think he is shocked by how much muscle he has already gained but I knew he would because, being a guy, it just means doing something and *poof* it happens!

This weeks schedule: Sun-Wed-Fri

Right now I'm still taking a short breather (like 10 seconds) at the 20 mark before continuing with the total 40. Until I can do it all without a breather I'm not moving on... I'm stubborn that way!

I stopped the program because my upper arms were and still are hurting. The soreness never went away so I've gone back to wall pushups. Maybe I'll start this challenge again in a couple of weeks. I'll see how it goes!

Okay so I tried to go on with the next step in the Pushup program which woulc have been:
13+17+16+14+50=110 and that last 50 was IMPOSSIBLE! ARGH!!

So I'm scaling back to
25+30+20+15+40=130

most likely for the rest of the month. Even though it's more pushups it has them in sets I can actually accomplish.

I keep feeling I need to build a bit more power before moving forward.

Ann what I do is to get the hardest session for the week that I can do, then I repeat that session 3 times or even 6 if need be.

I did that on a really tough week, then sailed through the next week on the program (repeated week 4, session 3 for 3 sessions and then went into week 5).

It does make a difference in how strong you can be for the next week. I have not found the plan completely linear like it appears.

No Ann you are not a wimp! This is a tough challenge but doable. When I got to Week four, I ended up doing session 1, 3x for the week; session 2, 3x for the week; and session 3, 3x for the week - so three weeks on one week! LOL!

I ended up doing the same for Week 4 and now for Week 5. I just can't move ahead as quickly as this program outlines.

I'll be curious when you start seeing results; by the end of week two, the muscle definition in my arms had changed especially in the deltoids. The triceps seem to be slowly pulling up too but not sure if it is due to the pushups or boxing the heavy bag.

What I would suggest is starting week one next week - that way you will be matching a calendar week. That's really just for convenience sake as I find it easier to match up my workouts with the days of the week.

Hubby took the test last night and he's going to start on Sunday as that is my sequence - Sun - Wed - Fri.

Make sure you have a rest day in between the workouts just like any strength workout.

My intial test results were 10 with modified pushups... right now I'm on Week Four - repeating Session One throughout the entire week.

In the previous weeks I didn't do that; I kept to a different session for each workout but it's getting tougher and I got to keep it at a pace that I feel I can accomplish.

Remember to adapt it to FIT YOUR NEEDS!

Hey gang - I'm energizing this thread ---

The pushup challenge is one of several in this forum. It's a cafeteria style plan of challenges - pick the one that interests you and dive right in - post progress on that specific thread.

When using this thread:

1.) Take the intitial test at 100 Pushups website;

2.) Report your initial test here;

3.) Report weekly how many sessions you have done and what number of pushups you are doing.

The initial test helps you figure out where to start and how to plan your program

(yeay! i'm so glad to see a new face around here. ::smiles:: nope, we haven't started yet. i'm trying to spark some interest and then i'll ask everyone to post their initial test results so we know which program each person will be following.

yeay for kickboxing, it's totally my favorite form of cardio. ::grins::

and for all you sparkers who don't feel comfortable doing a push-up on the floor, please join us and do your push-ups on the wall! it will still be a great workout!)

This looks pretty cool! I just started a kickboxing class and while I love that my legs are strong and in shape from running I've realized just how weak my upper body/arms are. I am going to forward this on to another friend who may be interested and add this to my routine. Thanks! I'll try to remember to check back here and see how you're doing. Have you already started? If so, how's it going? emoticon
