I will have to start this challenge over. I have found myself stress eating the last few days and I am really not feeling like doing any challenges. I am doing my best to try to at least make sure that what I am over eating is healthy even though I want more unhealthy choices. emoticon

I've had some major life bumps recently but I am not entirely ready to talk about them yet. I have managed to not gain weight or do too much stress eating during this time which is a major win for me. I am trying to capitalize on these life changes to push my health agenda forward

Thinronna, I have chronic issues with my back, so I sympathize with your injury. Be careful and make sure you take care of it. Back injuries have a way of sneaking up on you, don't they?

My biggest bump in the road is definitely stress! I love to stress-eat, and given the amount of stress in my life, that is soooo not good. I'm working on it!

Well cr*p! I am going to break my nice 24 day streak right now. This morning I went to pick up my son and I twisted my back somehow and every time I make a sudden movement I have pain. I did manage to walk some today but for only about twenty minutes of it could be called exercising...the rest was slow walking at work. I normally exercise right now that the kids are in bed doing crunches and push up and such but tonight that does not seem like a good idea so I am breaking my streak. I want to go again though...I will see how I feel and if it is better maybe I can start again tomorrow.

Bump in the road? More like a Giant sink hole! Oppend up and sucked me in. I've done NOTHING not one thing, in the past YEAR~! All the weight I've lost I've gained back and then some. My health is being affected by the weight I have gained.

SOOOO Starting tomorrow a Friday I know I will take the first steps back. I am planning on doing some swimming, or water walking for my first day of 'exercise'. This will be the first day of my 100 day challenge. Something every day for 100 days, and see what happens.

March came in like a lion (with pneumonia to boot) Missed a week of exercise which is almost unheard of for me, but I stopped because it was clearly not a good idea. Back in the saddle today. Hopefully the last week of March will be better!

I think there are things that can (and should) derail all of us momentarily. Your journey ultimately has to be one of your choices, and I agree, that was not a good day to exercise. I hope your daughter is doing better!

I made it 56 days and couldn't think of anything that would derail me...until my daughter had to be admitted to the hospital. Exercise has been a big focus of my life for the past two months, but I found one thing that took precidence!
I am not even disappointed...there is no way I could justify putting a streak ahead of her...and I am just starting over. I have already made a huge lifestyle change by making this a habit, and the results have been amazing. There is no way I want that to stop! emoticon

I was finding it increasingly difficult to may myself exercise everyday last week. Then I missed my first day yesterday. I had 31 consecutive days. I wasn't lazy, I worked in the yard and house, raked, mowed the lawn, canned peaches. But I didn't make time for dedicated exercise.

Not sure what to do about that. The consecutive part was important for me. But I actually don't feel too bad about skipping exercise for the first day in 32 days.

I think if I had to start over it would be de-motivating. I'm thinking of going for another 30 day stretch and focusing on that.

My obstacle is myself. I can make the time I just am not for some reason. Last week I ran once. I let work get in the way of everything else. Instead of hitting the SP site to log at night I should be doing some exercise or getting up before I take my daughter to school to work out.

This is my greatest problem. I find if I exercise I'm less likely to hit my calorie limit or go over it. Also since it was my b-day I gave myself an excuse to eat too much and I'll have to learn from this and move past it.

I'll have to weigh in today to see what damage was done. Since I've started I've either lost or stayed the same, but never gained. I may see a gain today. Whatever it is I need to move past it and get back to the things which will make me successful.

I started over from day 1 yesterday. For some reason it's just important to me to reach 100 days--100 consecutive days.

When I missed exercise it was because of poor planning. Instead of doing it in the morning, I keep putting it off and missing opportunities during the day. Finally there was no time and I was exhausted. Oh well, lesson learned and I am ready to begin again.

I've missed a couple of days since I started three weeks ago: Two Saturday's ago there was a 30th B-Day party for me out of town, we stayed there longer than expected and didn't get a walk in. This past Sunday my grandma passed away, I only got 14 minutes in yesterday and will probably not get anything in tomorrow, as we're leaving at 7am with our 11 month old for the funeral a hour away, the burial another hour away and then 1.5 hours back here before work again on Friday. That's ok though, I'm at my goal weight and will stay pretty active.

Several people have chosen not to start over, but rather to see how many of 100 they can do (97 out of 100 is awesome) or others have continued forward to get to day 100 no matter how many days it took

WHATEVER WORKS FOR THE INDIVIDUAL to keep motivated is what you should do. This team is not about rules, it is about motivating people to prioritize and focus on being healthy and fit. I will support everyone on this team, no matter how they do it

I'm glad I found the bumps in the road posting. I was frustrated a bit as I missed a couple days. For me I am not thinking of it as starting over, but continuing to go strong. I had completed 8 days before I fell off the cart/hit the bump in the road or however you want to describe it.
For me to start over would be depressing, so I am just continuing my count from here. Besides as you said below Most people never do 7 consecutive days and honestly this is the first time I have been consistent since I had my son (he's turning 16). SO baby steps and all the little steps count.

Glad to hear that you guys have such a great attitude. There is nothing wrong with starting over - stick to it and hold your head high. Most people NEVER do 7 consecutive days of exercise, let alone 30, 50 or 100

I was going strong with 9 days and then our All Staff meeting came...the first day I was only able to get in ten minutes before I was called into action. So today is day one of 100. I'm not to upset about it though.

Back and trying to stay on track.

Husband has been in the hospital since Saturday last; not able to do much but pray (and cry some). He's home now and recovering nicely, and I'll get back into my daily workout routine, and making some adjustments to the diet as now he is on no added saly and low saturated fat (we were already doing the low fat part). Looking foreward to tasty recipes that will meet the healthy heart/low blood pressure guilelines. (I use SP recipes all the time, so I know I won't be disappointed.

Thanks so much for the answer! It definitely made me feel better and less guilty about those 3 days without the exercise and made me appreciate the fact that I HADN'T QUIT the challenge altogether:-)

I decided to count in ALL the days I do, so count in those 30-something days, but also - DO EVERYTHING I CAN to continue this streak of consecutive exercise that I have had for 8 days today. For example I know I won't be able to do a real workout (maybe a walk only) on Easter Sunday cause I'll be visiting distant family, and I'd make a story to be told for years and years if I tried to do a workout dvd. And I felt upset about it, worried how it would destroy my streak. Now I decided I will do a good 50 minute workout on Sat, the same thing Mon and - IT WILL BE OK.

I really feel like this challenge is changing my life and my body!

Even the worst failure is better than not trying.

Hi Flysohigh! This is going to sound odd, but I consider this challenge to be an INDIVIDUAL challenge, so I try not to make rules for anyone. What do you want to do is the question. Some people have quit the challenge when they lose a streak and I think that is a shame. I think the whole goal is to help you prioritize fitness. Some people do every day consecutively, others just count as they go. However you will be most successful - that is what you should do. Hope this helps!

I have a question that's pretty important to me. SO I had a terrible weekend last week and quit exercising for 3 days, after doing the challenge day in, day in for I think 34 days.
I've been exercising again since Monday but now - I don't know how to count the days! Do I start again, from day one???

Sounds good - If I am doing something with weights like Boot Camp or 30DS, I alternate days with other stuff - otherwise I get exhausted too :)

Thanks for the advice:-)
Yep, I was working out rather hard - a Jillian Michaels workout every day, except for two when it was something easier. And I was feeling more and more beat these past few days.
But I was afraid that if I do only, I don't know, 25 or 30 minutes, I would feel like a cheat, feel guilty and overeat. Also, I don't really have a chance to work out anywhere else, as it's still too cold and slippery on the streets to go for a jog, and I have no time or money for a gym.
So taking advice from someone more experienced:) - today I only did a warm-up and 30 minutes of moderate cardio dvd.
I feel pretty good about it, I think I will repeat it tomorrow and let my poor muscles recover after the tough strength workouts they'd been getting!

Even the worst failure is better than not trying.

Are you exercising at high intensity? Some people alternate high intensity days with low intensity (elliptical one day, light walk outdoors the next). Endurance comes with time and practice. And some of it is just the body rebelling, but if you are really exhausted (ie you are doing the workout and feel tired) then take it down a level or do less overall time. Most days that I think I am tired and don't want to do it, I actually feel energized after 10 minutes of exercise and choose to do more, but days that I am exhausted I do my minimum requirements for me to feel like I have done it...

For me it's insomnia and general tiredness. Even if I have slept well, after a few days of back to back exercise I just feel so sluggish and tired. So I quit, and start a week or two later... As a result, I may be rather fit(t-ish) but all this muscle is covered with a wobbly layer of fat. Me not being an infant, it's not that cute...
These past few days it's been very difficult to get myself to work out, because my body kept begging: just let me lie down, I don't want this, I don't care what YOU want, I just don't want this!
Until now, I had always given in, but I don't want to to this anymore. I want to stick to this team and I really want to succeed!!!

Coach,
Great advice. You are right - my body needs to be surprised from time to time! Great to think that we are getting so efficient at something that our body starts performing like an athlete. Skiing this week 3-4 hours a day definitely helped the 3 lb loss on the scale.

Mix it up people!

Every time you plateau change up what you do, alter your patterns that you have set. Plateau = your body is conditioned to deal with what you do to it, whether that is calorie intake, workout sessions, or stress, ect.
If when you workout you do light weight and a lot of reps, change to low reps heavy weight. If your on a treadmill switch switch to a bike or elliptical. switch it up confuse your system, you dont necessarily need to work harder just differently.

ENJOY THE RIDE

Hang in there Spunky! You are doing great. I made it 31 days consecutive exercise and then my world got totally crazy at work and to be honest I have been absolutely exhausted by the time I get home and feed my son and get him to be - so I guess my inner whinner won - and I haven't exercised the last 3 days and haven't eated that great either (emotional!). So I was in need of some motivation and I just read a bunch of your blogs and wanted to let you know how great you are doing. So for me - back at day 1 of exercise which is so frustrating because I made it all the way to 31 but that's what it is - so here I go again!

I don't know why but this is the first week that I have not lost any weight...a bit demoralizing but I am just going to move forward and work my butt off this week! My goal is to get off as much as possible in the next 16 days before the new year - would like to see another 5-6 lbs gone forever!

thanks for you comments. It does help, today wasn't great at all, which is frustrating because I did so good yesterday. I will just be more focused - at the very least I'm not going to eat anything unless I've put it on the tracker - that way I am really seeing what the calories are. Thanks again!

I find it's bordom, or TOM, that makes me eat when I'm not hungry. One thing that works for me (may not for everyone), is if I know I'm not hungry but I'm wanting to eat somehting, I will start reading the lables on what I'm about to eat. example I've reached for the bag of chips I will look and see that's 200 "empty calories" for only 10 chips. Do I realy want to wast those calories for my day? Some times the answer is yes... most of the time it's no.

If I'm realy hungry I will also compare the calories vs how filling the food will be. Hope that makes some kind of sense.

Have you tried journalling about what is going on. It actually helps me focus on behavior that I want and why I want it. Usually I am able to get to the base of why I am eating more -often for me it is actually boredome. Hope this helps.

So I've been good my exercise, but not sure why I'm eating like total crap! Mental stuff I'm sure, I'll eat something and say I'm not even hungry - but keep going. Need to snap out of it! Any suggestions, on what to do when this happens - I'm mean of course the obvious is "Just dont eat it" but, how how you guys handled this in the past?

Do you have the WATP DVD or any exercise DVD? It's an easy out and can be done pretty quickly.

Another thing is to do some of the Spark People strength exercises like Wall Push ups and lunges. They don't take equipment and you don't have to do them all at once.

Good Luck!

Its a mental bump today. After a great week last week and a long day skiing yesterday. I just want to curel up on the couch and watch some good tv. Its 2:30 and I've done nothing. I have to come up with something to do at the house that counts for the day. I just don't want to get dress get in the car drive to the gym and all that jazz.

So I must figure out something to do here.

Well - that is similar to me not getting on the scale because I think it might be higher that day.

I saw my Rheumatologist recently, and he said the hip pain is bursitis. This is what Spark People's A -Z definition says:

Bursitis is inflammation of a bursa. It is a common condition that often happens when a joint is overused, such as when throwing a baseball or painting a wall. More rarely, bursitis can be caused by gout or an infection. Bursitis is more common in people who are overweight, elderly or diabetic, although it also develops in younger, healthy people without a clear reason.

My Dr. thinks that it will improve as I become more fit and lose weight, or it will become a major irritant, holding me back. I see him again in 6 months and if it's not better we will try cortizone shots in both hips. I'm pretty sure that will help, but the shots hurt badly and they mask the problem, instead of fixing it.

So I get this too, (hip pain) but only in my left hip. Always the left. I think based on the way I walk my left leg may be a little longer (the bottom of my shoes has different wear patterns and even the way I place my feet on an elliptical is different)

I have been thinking of getting a sports medicine or podiatry assessment. Maybe I need a lift? How's this for hysterical - I want an assessment, but I don't feel "fit" enough to go get one...Isn't that silly?

My biggest issue is pain - mostly hip pain from arthritis.

My second issue is just letting the day get away from me and doing nothing for no reason.
