It's been a full quarter since we've set our goals and affirmations for 2013, and now it's time for a review on your progress so far.

How are you doing with the goals you've set?

Are you sticking to them? Or have they fallen to the wayside?

Do you need to revise a goal, or set some new ones? Maybe challenge yourself a little more?

It's still early in the year to re-affirm your commitment to your goals and dreams. If you need a fresh start, that's ok too. Now's the time to get serious, if you haven't already!!

For those who are new to the team, please join us and feel free to post your original goals, and/or tell how your doing with them. It's never too late!!

I didn't go the the aquatic or fitness center at all last week. Too much happening. I will this week.l

I did walk 5 miles last week. 5.27 miles since January 1 emoticon

I climbed 6 floors on Tuesday, 7 on Wednesday and 9 on Thursday. Then I got lazy. Nothing Friday or Saturday. Never even poked my nose out the door. I have 3 floors done today.

I lost 4 ounces.

I'm Praying, Eating, and Moving!

I'm sticking to my normal healthy habits for maintaining balance and healthy living.

I've finished week one of my 12 week bible study, spending time daily on this study, and other daily devotions.

I'm getting my exercise daily, min 10 min, but going for more, and I tried something new and different. I bought the Dr. Lisa DVD, and I really enjoyed it. It isn't just another workout! I look forward to increased stamina and flexibility for growth.

Although this goal wasn't mentioned here, I am striving for 5+ freggies, and I'm doing great with an avg of 7 per day. I'm really working on raw veggies for snacks.

The photography classes will come later in the Spring, after I complete this bible study. I need to focus on one endeavor at a time. (another goal)

I wish you all the best with your goals!

**************
I will remain committed to living my balanced healthy lifestyle by doing what I currently enjoy, and what I’m successful with, each and every day. In addition, I will focus on personal and spiritual growth, by engaging in new and different things. The top 3 I will focus on are:

Spiritual Growth: Through bible studies throughout the year. I've just begun the first, with 2 others lined up. I will not begin a new study until I've completed the current one.

Fitness: I will try new and different exercises in the areas of dance and yoga for fun and variety. I've purchased 4 new DVD's, and I will give each a real chance before moving on to something else.

Enhance my photography hobby: I will take 3 photography courses, already purchased, to learn more about the different aspects, how to improve my skills and utilize my camera to it's full potential. I enjoy seeing my own pictures in frames, and the reward will be seeing some on a canvas. (This will come a little later in phases, once I've completed my bible study, to focus solely on the courses).

I will finish what I've started, and limit how many activities I engage in at one time.

emoticon emoticon Howdy! from the DFW area of Texas!

Here are my answers to the posted questions in the "Setting Goals Challenge":

1. I started my goals on 1/1/13
2. Be consistent and don't give up.
3. Track and journal on a daily basis.
4. I have only 3 and they can be worked on together.
5. My goals are realistic and should be achievable on a daily basis...for my new lifestyle change.

Everyone........have a blessed day and wonderful journey to the new you!

1. When will you start your goals?
I started my goals on January 1
2. What steps do you need to take RIGHT NOW to move nearer to your goals?
Just do it
3. How will you monitor your progress and track your steps towards your goals?
On spark people--my streaks and trackers
4. If you have lots of goals, which will you prioritise?
Exercise is a priority right now because I have been away from it too long
5. Are your goals realistic? Can you commit to every day or should you commit to 5 days a week and aim for 7 (that way allowing yourself some flexibility and a weekly opportunity to overachieve!), same principle applies to number of minutes, etc.
My goals are realistic. I am committing to 5 days and trying for the full 7. No one is perfect.

Dizzy - amazing questions! I am still working on tweaking my goals.

Here is my first stab:

I am going to continue what is working for me. That includes, 20 minutes exercise everyday. Do something everyday for strength training. An added push is the commitment to 1000 minutes each month (ST is not included in minutes totals.) I measure this in several ways. Fitness minutes are always tracked on SP. I use the SparkAmerica minutes totals as my official 1000 minutes goal. I have a calendar to journal my strength training so I make sure to not duplicate areas to frequently.

Food - I have a successful calorie range that I try to stay within. I track in the food tracker. Almost all my foods are weighed and portioned. (When I am really on my game)

My new habit I am working on is to read my bible everyday. I struggle with consistency with this. I have the desire, but fall apart. To overcome this I have reminders set on my iPad and my phone daily. I also have a daily email reminder for a plan I am working through. I also have two friends that have agreed to help keep me accountable. I also just discovered the journal/calendar I bought with daily passages to read takes me through the bible in a year! Really excited for that!

I have discovered a couple things that help motivate.. Streaks are important to me, I won't break them. Seeing the calendar squares with stuff on them everyday is amazing.

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but one of love, power and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7

emoticon Iamagemlover! Hope you had a great day!
emoticon Will be praying for you Lynn!

My goals for 2013 are:

1. Track food to stay within calorie range
2. Portion control - go back to the basics of measuring

3. At least 45 minutes of cardio a day - I have joined Leslie Sansone's Year of Walking Challenge which is 1 mile a day for 365 days (15 minutes), the rest will be from walking outside, or working out on my Wii Fit
4. Strength training at least 3 x's a week - starting the year with the January Jumpstart Fitness Challenge.
5. Use a calendar to track what exercise I am scheduled to do each day and check off when completed.

6. Be more organized.
7. Control stress and anxiety - by getting back into my daily yoga routine and meditation every evening.

I'm still tweaking, but this is my basic plan.

My ultimate goal is to lose 40 - 50 pounds. My daily goals to reach this are:

1. 30 minutes of exercise daily. This is the minimum. On work days I want to exercise 30 - 45 minutes before work and walk 30 minutes at lunch.

2. 5 fruits/veggies daily

3. 3 servings of dairy daily

4. Track all food

5. Stay in calorie range.

My goals are:

1. To look forward and not back at what was or how I got here. I am here and there is only one way to go. This year I have dedicated to me. I am going to be first on my priority list. I am going to journal my journey using scrapbooking which inspires and motivates me.

2. To learn how to cook healthy meals and incorporate more fruits and veggies into my meals. To stop eating out so much, putting the money I would of spent eating out in a jar towards my reward for reaching my goal weight. That reward is still pending at present. Tracking my meals daily.

3. Exercise is at current a unknown word to me lol. I am hoping to change that this year. I don't want to do the same thing and get bored so have joined 24 hour fitness for the weightlifting part and am so excited to see a nice collection of videos on here to use.

4. To accept that this isn't going to happen overnight. Always returning to the don't look back just forward as laid out in step 1.

5. To take time for sleep. I am really bad at this one. And the more I am awake, stressing or whatever the more I mindlessly snack or stress eat which has led me to the weight I am today. I need to come up with a schedule and make it work.

Happy New Year Everyone.
Treatment #1 down and feeling good... just a bit sore from the marker placements.
I am down a pound, but I think that is stress.

I hope everyone stays safe and has a great evening and has made great plans for the beginning of the New Year and for every day afterwards.

I will live daily with purpose. Instead of mindlessly rushing from one task or event to another, I will slow down to appreciate what I am doing and check-in to make sure I am taking care of myself.

Be kind. For every person you know is fighting a hard battle. -Plato

I would rather be ashes than dust. I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it be stifled by dry-rot. I would rather be a superb meteor - every atom of me in a magnificent glow - than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time. - Jack London

I will finish what I've started, and limit how many activities I engage in at one time.

Happy New Year Sparklers!!

I have spent not enough time thinking this through as I have a unique challenge with the start of new year, I will begin a course of chemo for a small tumor along the base of my spine. I don't expect it will be a long course of treatments as it was found very very early and it has very clearly defined margins so the combination of gene-chemotherapy and radiation I am looking at hopefully, only one course of treatments before they are able to remove the tumor surgically.
I have been a cancer survivor for 6 years now with this being a small set back.
As for my desires for change and workouts, they will need to worked out with a physical therapist after the first of the year. I will be getting 2 treatments a week for 3 weeks to start, and then a course of radation therapy.

SO this is my big challenge ...
I WILL continue to eat properly and keep my protein levels up.
I will continue to move as much as possible and I will continue to use the pool for as long as I am able to, hopefully my WBC's will not cause me to be jeaprody of acquiring one of the many nasty bugs that are going around.
I am eating tons of foods rich in Antioxidants also. lots of berries and nuts.

BUT you all ROCK with the definitive goals and challenges you have set for yourself, when I am able, I will use you all as inspiration for my goals.

be authentically you...

I'm checking out some ideas that will benefit me and I will edit this post to list some beneficial resolutions. I think it will be more about revamping some

* I want to FINALLY be # 1 in My Life!!!!!

I have finally learned to say no to my GROWN children. I'm sorry if that sounds un-motherly!

* I want to continue to eat healthy.

Keep practicing portion control. Eat out only once a week & make a healthy choice. And continue my 5 a day. 3 veggies & 2 fruits 7 days a week.

* I want to exercise more consistently.

Continue to exercise 5 to 6 days a week with 1 or 2 days of rest. Keep strength training and doing yoga & meditation daily. I love it!!

* I want to get my home organized.

Continue to pick a room and work on it 1 and 1/2 hours a day until that room is finished.

Amazing! Dizzy, I LOVE this! I am going to need to think about it and come back later.

Kelly - could you post the links to the challenges you are joining? They sound like something a lot of our team might be interested in. I am interested in the walking one. :)

I bought a fit bit ultra. I thought I was doing alright with exercise. Well, I was wrong. I actually walk less than 2000 steps a day. I am slightly active about 34% of the day the rest of the time I am sedentary. This has to change. This will change.

I will go to the pool or fitness center 2x a week.
I will walk at least 5 miles a week.
I will climb at least 6 floor a day.
I will maintain my current weight.

I love SparkPeople

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

I've been maintaining through the holidays. So January 1st, I'm going to change my nutrition goals to focus on loosing weight again. The goal is to loose at least 30 pounds this coming year, if not more. To do that I will incorporate more freggies into my diet; aiming for at least 5 a day by increasing my intake gradually.

I'm also going to begin a 12 week walking program, that I found here on SP,on January 1st. While I'm working on that I will look up some walks in my area so that I can set a date goal for the 5k walking/training program I will do next.

Starting the evening of January second, I'll start following the sleep challenge guidelines and complete that challenge along with the stress reduction challenge.

Setting Goals Challenge

As we approach the beginning of a new year many people will be thinking about resolutions and things they want to change. Too often resolutions focus on NOT doing something which can lead to us feeling deprived, demotivated and ultimately to give up. Our challenge is to think about how you want your life to be different and set some goals focusing on things you will do rather than things you won’t eg if you want to eat more healthily you could set goals ‘to eat 3 freggies every day’,’ to cook at least 2 meals from scratch each week’ rather than ‘to eat less junk’ or ‘to not eat chocolate’.

Here are some ideas of things you may want to work on this year to get you thinking:
* healthy eating
* exercising consistently
* being more organised
* making yourself an equal priority
* establishing a healthy sleep routine/ pattern

This thread gives ideas for Nutrition goals
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutriti
on
_articles.asp?id=1432

while this one gives a Collection of SparkPeople Resources as a New Year's Resolution Survival Guide
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat
io
n_articles.asp?id=987

Remember that goals need to be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) to be the most effective. Choose 2 or 3 goals that are most important to you and plan how you will make them happen.

Use this thread to share your ideas and get support to identify, form and tweak your goals.
Let’s make 2013 the best year yet!
