Tip for today: reward yourself
Plan a reward for meeting a goal - weight loss, consistency, exercise minutes/ days - whatever you need to work on. Choose the reward up front so you know what you're working towards - can be very motivating! Rewards can be something big like a holiday or weekend away, or something new (clothes, jewellery, book) or a pamper session (hair style, manicure) or time out (night out, long soaky bath) - it works best if it's something you really want! I sometimes use things that are going to happen anyway but I delay them until I've met my goal.

My tip is to be active, not seating behind a computer. Simply be in the kitchen learning and cooking healthy meals. Holding my Fit Club twice a week, going to my trainer twice a week. Golfing at least twice a week. Exercise to my fitness DVD's twice a week. I found I was spending too much time on SparkPeople. So I have to keep that to a limit, otherwise, I am not being active, but sitting. I love Spark, but in moderation.

Each of us are unique with different goals and challenges, tailored to suit our particular needs, situations and lifestyle. We are all in different phases of our journey, accomplishing dreams and goals as we can achieve them, on our personal timelines. Make time to outline your own accomplishments and achievements, and concentrate on how far you have come. Focus on what you should eat, not what you shouldn't. For example, if you want to get 5+ servings of fruits and veggies everyday, you choose a piece of fruit to work toward that goal (I'm doing great!), instead of denying yourself a candy bar (I'm being punished).

Cook your own healthy meals.

Even if you don't enjoy cooking now, it is very rewarding knowing what really goes into your meals, and you have control over how fresh, clean, and healthy the family eats. It is also an excellent planning tool having meals on hand if you choose batch cooking, or just fixing enough extras for a couple meals. It's worth the effort up front, in order to save time later, and surely helps curb the urge to go with take-out, etc. I actually enjoy my own foods more than anything now.

1) Tip for the day: Plan for "treats" in your calorie allotments. If I tell myself I can't have something, I will end up binging, so I allow for small portion controlled treats to avoid feeling deprived.

Someone mentioned the idea of doing squats or whatever every time they got up from the computer at work. I was inspired to choose a different strength exercise for each day - I made up a chart - and try that idea. It won't be every time because I get up fairly frequently but it will be sufficient enough to be good for me. I appreciate the tips people are passing on.

My tip is to not feel that I have to get all of my exercise - cardio - in at one time if I don't have the time to do it all at once. Some days I wouldn't get any in otherwise.

My tip echoes others who have replied on here: Track your food. That really helps keep me accountable. Yesterday, for example, I wanted a snack at night. First I tracked everything I had eaten for the day. I realized I had could not add a snack to what I had already eaten so I didn't.

I sent a Sparkmail to my fellow trekker across the country. That brightened my day to see that someone else was making the trek.

My tip - If you're stuck on a plateau, look back over your food journal and see if you can find eating patterns that could be holding you back. Are your portions too large? Eating too many meals out? Having too many treats? Do you need more fruits/veggies? How about more fiber? Just reviewing your food journal can show you where you need to make some changes.

Sunday 10/21:
Today's tip: Look for small things you can challenge yourself with. For example, I was on a family vacation this past weekend and finally, for the first time ever, decided to carry my exercise wear and my tennis shoes so I could do my walk on Saturday. It took a lot of arguing inside my head to finally do it!

My tip when motivation is slipping is to use "gaming" to make things interesting. Spark points are one way, and a couple of people mentioned streaks. I log my walking/running distances on a site that tracks my progress crossing the country and shows a picture of wherever I am on the journey.

Tip for the day - use the spark streaks tracker to help keep you on track. I have a difficult time with motivation to work out. If I can get myself to do 10 minutes a day I will generally do more. By focusing on keeping my spark streak going it gives me that little extra kick in the behind to get up and at least do 10 min.

Is there a way to give a goodie to someone who has their page set on private? The person who had posted before me on the huddle wall has a private page - I went to the next one down, but would like to know if there is a way to include them in the challenge.

I know for me personally, if I don't have someone to be accountable to, I easily fall off the wagon and don't bother climbing back on. So this time, I've started attending a local chapter of TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly). I've found the weekly weigh-ins and support I get there really help. And involve your family! Even if nobody else needs to lose weight, we can all benefit from healthy eating and exercise!

I'm gonna send some spark goodies or something this week.

My tip is to plan ahead. This is especially true when you are going out to eat or going to a public function of some sort. Give yourself a pep talk about what you will or won't eat and take some time to look at calories before you go. Nothing worse than standing at a fast food restaurant desperately trying to figure out calories so you can order. (I use an App on my phone).

My tip is to do one exercise while you are walking around the house, at work, or just watching TV .Example .....when I get up from the computer I knock off 20 squats, before I sit down I knock off 20 more and I do different exercises like that through out the day

My tip today is don't make any food completely off limits, especially if it's something you love. If it is something that doesn't fit well into your food plan, then learn to have it as a treat and use portion control. If we deny ourselves the things we love most, it is only a matter of time before we feel deprived and fall off the wagon.

My tip for the day is track your streaks. I didn't realize how motivating streaks were until I missed one and it was busted. I was heart broken. Also start a new streak every month even if it is cutting out a bad habit.

One tip I have, which I'm relying on a lot lately is:

Do just ten minutes of exercise!

I always do more, but at least give it 10 minutes when you are out of motivation, feeling tired or stressed. You feel better in the end. I need to do this more with cardio and ST as lately all I want to do is walk outdoors, enjoying the nice weather while I can, but I've slacked off a bit in the other areas.

It doesn't matter whether you use SP tracker, another computerised tracker, food diary or just a scrap of paper - just track! And don't guess - weigh your food and include everything! That way you can look back and see how what you're eating (and drinking!) is impacting on your results.

No matter where we are on our journeys we all have times when we’re not quite on track: our motivation is failing, our excuses are winning, consistency is not there and we’re not seeing the results that we want.
