Lynn - if you liked this one, I encourage you to go back and work through the rest of the series. This was the last of ten topics. They were all very good. Each of them had a new topic. They all started with a topic header "mind over body"

The article was great, will reread it often. I am the sort of person that is always evaluating what I am doing and trying to make it more efficient and work smoother, be more effective in my goals. So this article, and the act of Praxis is one that I will be putting to use very practically. As soon as I understand it fully :)

I just took a peek at the BDA Journal article. Some have mentioned it here. Is anyone actively doing something like this? I would love to hear successes or difficulties with this type of journaling.

Here is the article link.

This is an awesome article and lays the process out in such a straight forward way. I think going through all the other steps of the "Mind over Body" series has really prepared us for this final article. I immediately could see where I need to implement more of this into my journey.

Joette, thank you for all the work you have put into this series! It has helped me so much, in ways I never dreamed possible and from what I've read from other posts, it has done the same for many of our members.

Thank you this was helpful
I had to go back and change how I was eating in order to loose weight again. After reading some blogs I went back to protein drinks for lunch with a fruit or vegetable.
I told myself there wasn't time to do more exercise, but I picked a song for each exercise I do and when it comes on the radio I stopped to do 2 sets of 15 reps when I am at home. Making it fun.

Great article! I really like the BDA journal idea, and enjoyed examining the process and stages. I have come to realize that the scale isn't important to me, it's just a number, and I base my success on a wide variety of factors. Being healthy and fit (mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally) are most important, but not always easy.

I'm going through this process with fitness right now, so this came at the perfect time. I've been observing and semi-analyzing, but that's about it. I'm working on the strategy and my action plan. This article really did help, and it's the perfect time to begin the BDA jounal.

JOETTE,I've really enjoyed this whole series! Thank you!!

Dear Lord, set my sights on You and Your great attributes. Help me to live in Your presence, dependent on Your guidance each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

joette, no, i use a food tracker on my computer. it has my foods already. but i don't do the non-food stuff. i barely have time to do the food. adding more would probably just make me do it even less often. i really think i know the issues. i'm really good at theory.

This was an eye opener I just blogged almost about the same thing today. How I have looked back and took stock of what I was doing and how I realize the changes that need to be made

Great article, thank you for posting it

Sue - I am happy you are jumping in! Please leave comments in the other threads as you go. I do go back and read/comment with anyone that comes in those threads.

Minnie - have you tried using the food tracker here as your journal? That might help.. Make it not feel like you are journaling.. Rather you are sparking. ;)

i'm great at everything except taking action. i become distracted or lazy or succumb to temptation of what's being served to me or lack time.

i wonder if journalling would teach me more. i suspect i know the answers. i probably would not stick with journaling either when i stop the rest.

i don't think i make these mistakes. i am hinest with myself and like myself. however, as soon as i'm distracted by something in life and i don't focus strongly on my weight, i gain. i've struggled to maintain my weight for 8 years now. it should have become automatic by now. but it's not. the only reason i haven't gained, is that i i am trying unsuccessfully to lose another 10 pounds. instead i gain and lose the same few pounds.
now i'll go read the article.
happy weekend and thanks much for this series, joette.

My gosh, I have missed so very much by not joining this group sooner! I am going to look back at each week.

I was also interested in the part about critical thinking. It's sort of ironic that critical thinking is not meant as being hateful toward ones self, critical in a judgmental sense that inspires self hatred. I think my struggle is no different than anyone else's, I look in the mirror with a spirit of attaching who I am, to how my body looks. So if my body looks "bad", then I am bad. It is interesting that when one's drug of choice is food, it's hard to separate the person from the drug like many seem to do when someone is addicted to liquor or drugs.
Now that I am working toward good health once and for all, when I look in the mirror all I see is a body in progress. It takes away all the blame and shame. It's about time!!

This is the last section of our Mind Over Body challenge! :( I have really enjoyed these. How about you?

This time we are going to talk about "Lasting Changes". How do we take what we are learning about ourselves and make it work for a lifetime?

Praxis is a Greek word for a four stage process of learning. Take a look at this article and come back to talk about it.

I think it has some really interesting ideas. The idea I found most helpful was talking about our willingness to really see what we are doing - not what we want to see. To really be open minded to be honest with ourselves. Not to be judgemental, but to learn.
