I still watch what I eat and drink, and act as if I do....as long as I get good readings
then I will maintain what I am doing...

Thanks,

This is how my nephrologist explained it to me:

My creatinine may be reading stage 1 (normal readings) - but I still have chronic kidney disease.. my kidney function is what I am maintaining, while I have this disease that has no cure and no treatment.
The other important thing he told me: as long as my creatinine numbers keep changing - even if they stay in the same stage - I have chronic kidney disease (CKD).

I do not know if this makes sense to you - but it makes sense to me.

I used to fight with my primary doctor all the time about my kidney disease - I changed doctors and explained to my new doctor exactly how I maintain my CKD - if they have an issue giving me my referral to see my nephrologist please tell me NOW so I can find a supportive doctor who understands that I am maintaining my CKD - not that I do not have the disease.

I live to maintain my kidney funtion in stage 1 - I do not care who believes I have it or who doesnt. I am DONE fighting with doctors who look at my creatinine, GFR, and other numbers and say I DO NOT Have it! Because when I do not take the steps to maintain it - my numbers fall back into stage 2 or 3.

Take care of you!

Jean

I am going to email/call my primary physician and discuss the fact that I was told my kidneys are 100% and she discharged me except to have a 6 month checkup. At his point I am not sure who to believe. My creatinine (I forgot how to spell this word) did go down.

If your primary and your specialist disagree I think you should get another opinion from a physician that is independent of those two.

I don't know if I am excluded or not. My nephrologist told me, when I first started see her, that my kidneys were functioning at 30%--She uses 50% for each--add that together and you will get 100%. Then, at my last appointment she told me that my kidneys were functioning at 100%. I don't know what to think since the other specialists take many precautions to not damage the kidneys further. I can't wait for my next appointment, in August. When she was determine when I should come back she says I am discharging you. I don't know which dr to go to for answer involving my nephrologist's statement. I guess I will try my primary.

Methods to Repair Kidney Cells, Assess Kidney Function On the Horizon

In a related study, they report progress on a non-invasive method to assess how much kidney function has survived a serious bout of inflammation or a chronic problem like high blood pressure.
The diagnostic tool could help physicians make hard choices about whether a patient has enough kidney function left to benefit from treatment or whether dialysis or a transplant is in their future, said Dr. Michael P. Madaio, nephrologist and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University.
