OK, I did it!
I registered for the local half-iron Aquabike in July 2010 (can't run, knee arthritis).
I did bike centuries in my 20s but have never done anything timed before...
My goal is just to finish and to have something to train for. The guy whose office is next to mine has done the sprint version of the race for the past 5 years and has seen me go from 340 to 168 and kept bugging me to do it too.
I would have done the sprint this past July, but I didn't trust myself not to hobble the 3.2 miles at the end in the excitement of the moment. Because I know me.
I think I've convinced a childhood friend from CA to come out and do the sprint while I watch her kids, and volunteer on the part of the bike course that goes past my house... (and be a long-distance training buddy)
I need advice from YOU guys for a training schedule, etc.
My current program:
- T,Th,Sun Spin class
- Sa Water aerobics followed by lap swim (was doing 1000m a couple months ago, recently working back up to that from 500yd)
- M,W BodyPump class (Lap swim after M class)
- F 1 hr lifting with pers trainer
Longest cycling distance since losing the weight was about 50 miles.
Longest swimming distance since losing the weight has been 1000m 2x/week followed by water aerobics
Any suggestions? Hints? Tips?

From BMI 53 (336 lbs) to under 30. Now aiming for less than 20% body fat.
