Back on March 30,2009 I joined Curves for the second time. I was desperate to maintain the ability to walk in spite of severe knee pain, fatigue, and breathing problems that included a chronic cough and shortness of breath with any exertion. When I joined Curves the first time (June 2001) I had actually gained weight and I quit going after a short time. In the 8 years after I quit I had gained 58 pounds.

. When I joined this time I didn't expect to lose weight. I had tried many different gyms, diets, and even pills. I believed that I was just destined to be Fat. My hope was that using the machines would improve the range of motion in my knees and relieve some of the pain when I walked.
I got so much more than I expected. The first month I lost 16 pounds without even really trying. For the first time I thought there MIGHT be a chance for me to lose at least some of my weight.
The staff and the other members at my Curves have been WONDERFUL ever since Day 1. I never felt self conscious or embarrassed because of my weight or the fact that I had trouble doing some of the machines.
The pain in my knees is almost gone. I have gone from being unable to walk into Wal-Mart for a gallon of milk to walking for an hour almost every evening (almost 3mph!). The cough and breathing problems are gone and the fatigue went with them.


I am half-way to my ultimate goal of losing 178 pounds and I truly believe that without Curves and SparkPeople I would not be doing this. SparkPeople has made it so easy to count calories and monitor my diet that I have even stopped drinking Soda which I NEVER believed I could do. Sparkpeople has a way of just presenting the information you need and letting you absorb it at your own pace. There are no lectures or deadlines or stipulations for participation. You are allowed to create your own program with all the information you need to get healthy and there is unconditional support and encouragement 24/7.
I am here because Curves saved my Life. And SparkPeople has shown me that it is possible to eat a healthy diet and control portions even though I was NEVER able to do that before.
