There are a ton of resources for training and as many opinions about what's best. I like Jeff Galloway's method because I'm not out to get a phenomenal time and because I have asthma.

The biggest thing is to keep strength training, build up slowly, max out at 11 or 12 miles two-three weeks before your event and then taper off. Hydrate well, take rest days...
