I agree. It normally takes me about a 1/2 mile to a mile to warm up, then I start stripping my outer layers, generally starting with gloves. I have walked in 35 degree rain in just a t-shirt (and pants) because I get so warm. And yes, my friends think I'm nuts. But once I stop, my muscles will start cooling down and it takes FOREVER to warm back up. (Generally at least 3 or 4 hours, when the temp is below 50. Longer than that if the the temp is in the 30's)

No matter what, on long my runs by 1/2 mile I am stripping off stuff, even if it is 20 degrees out, my buddies are always commenting on how hot I am - to bad I did not look hot!!!! But when I stop I cool down and get to the car w/heat because I am freezing.

The same thing happens to me regarding getting cooler. For me it happens around mile 5-6. Like the PP said, I just attribute it to sweating so much that I'm just cooler. I've also noticed, though that my heart rate drops a little around the same point - It's like the first 5 miles or so are a battle for me but after that point it just gets easier...

Next race: Akron half marathon 9/25/10

Athens half-marathon 2:44:44

If you view your run as an opportunity, your attitude will get an adjustment.

It could be sweat evaporating which is cooling you down. Just bring a jacket or long sleeved shirt with you for those times you feel cool. Also you might need to be getting more electrolytes during your runs.

As for stretching during your run, some people just need to do that. Do some easy stretching before your run. If you need to stretch because you are cramping up then you are not getting enought fluid and electrolytes during your run.

It seems like when I go over 7 miles, the entire run changes.
The biggest change is that I will start out needing to strip off extra layers but after about 6-7, I start getting cold no matter how hard i am running - Is this a hydration issue, its like my temp goes up then ultimately down.

I also seem to require a mid run (over 5 miles) stretch to go further, i seem to get really tight, is this normal? By stretching, I almost doubled my mileage.
