Tina, that map idea is WAY COOL!!!!! I read it aloud to the children and I got a "Wow, that's cool, can we do it?" reaction. Guess what the Mazar children will be working on next week?
As far as birdfeeders goes, we have counted 24 different birds so far. My Samuel is loving it. He even got a video from the library to be able to hear the different bird calls better. Now, he's the little "know-it-all" of birds. :)
Solar oven, I'm not sure it's warm enough in the summer here, but it's worth investigating. Thanks, Roxanne!
Love that yummy map idea. I'll have to remember that. If your weather gets hot enough in the summer, make a solar oven. We did one year with a pizza box, aluminum foil, and plexiglass. The boys cooked a grill cheese and eggs. They ate the sandwich! Let us know if you have any luck or inspiration with birdhouses. ~Roxanne
Speaking of maps, one year we made peanut butter dough for the base of the U.S., and added a few strands of red licorice for rivers, choc chips for mountain ranges, green sugar for the plains, cinnamon sugar for the desert. You get the idea. :) We did it with the co-op classes and the kids really loved it! It was our last geography class of the year.
I'd like to get some birdhouses/feeders going, too.

Absolutely- in 2 different years, we have hatched butterflies and praying mantis. I do NOT like bugs, but the baby mantis were very cool. The boys looooved it! Visit www.insectlore.com to buy either of these kits. I don't think they were too much. They come with everything you need, and it was simple. ~Roxanne

This year we have a huge yard to rearrange and a garden to plant as well as wood to chop. But the yard aside, ball season is right around the corner for us. We are very much looking forward to this. My two oldest daughters will be baking for Easter again this year and are hoping to expand their business into weddings and graduation parties. We plan on freezing and canning our harvest and making a book of pressed flowers. One of my DS is making a bird book with drawings and details of all of the birds we have coming to our birdfeeders. I'm sure there are more going on, but that's what was on the top of my head....
I'm looking ahead to summer. We always work in extra projects that are educational, but also fun, fun, fun- like salt maps, solar oven, gardening, of course... Please share if you have any projects that have been a hit with your children.
