For me the morning is the way to go. It means waking up at 5am but it is the only time I have. It is better to get it out of the way. emoticon

I work in an office sitting at a desk 40 hours a week. Don't laugh... but I have started doing a set of strength exercises in the bathroom every couple hours because I don't have time to fit them in when I get home...I have 3 kids too. I do have a treadmill so I do my upperbody strength exercises while I am on the treadmill! What a workout! And it kills 2 birds with 1 stone! So just remember any time you are moving you are burning calories and getting stronger. Fit it in whereever you can...even in the bathroom...LOL

I swear I have been thinking the same thing. I work 40 hours a week plus the 10 hours commute a week. I have 2 small children and I understand about when we get home what we have to do. But I decided I need to do it for ME now I work on on the Wii Fit or DVD and my kids do it with me. But you can part far away in the lot and walk to the office or store, just add it in when you can. It will work out.

Oh yes, I can feel your pain. And isn't it so easy for us to say "I don't have time", "I'm just too tired", or anything else that we can come up with. Believe me - I've said them ALL!
I realize it can be difficult to peel yourself out of bed earlier in the morning, but I have made myself do it. I dread it, but I gotta say after I'm done with a workout in the morning I am charged. I hop out of the shower ready to go for the day! It really gets me revved up & I feel great. Then I ask myself why I make all the excuses & make it seem like such a hassle to get up early. ha
Best of luck to u! U CAN DO THIS!! emoticon

I totally agree with TeacherRJD! You have to schedule the exercise in. I have to get up an hour and a half earlier every day now, so that I can go to Curves. It was hard at first, but it only takes a few weeks for something to become a habit, so now I'm used to it.

Also agree with the others who said to walk more and dance when cooking dinner or doing housework.

I am a teacher and a mom of two, so I understand where you are coming from. For me, I just had to say exercise was important to me and schedule it in. Two mornings a week, I wake at 5 am and exercise before I go to work. Three days a week, I go to the gym after work. I put my kids in the gym daycare and workout. I feel bad taking more time away from them, but I am a better mother when I do it. I just had plan it in. Sometimes I put the kids in a stroller and go for a walk instead after work.

What I found that I do is i get up a little early have breakfast and work out for at least an hour.. and then i have lunch and get ready for work. I atempted to try to do it after i got off at work at night but when its 11 pm im just to tired. What the others had a great idea with that. I use to clean the house with leg weights and do house work.. When i took them off it actually felt like i got a workout. Good luck fitting in workouts :D

Thanks a lot. I'll try anything, but I've got to put it off for a day or two as I'm fighting off a little bronchitis. As soon as I can breathe I'll be good to go! Thanks again!

Hi JMB3672,

I can relate to not having time to exercise. I'm a full-time student and I have two part-time jobs. When I'm not working or doing homework, I'm trying to rest, so exercising is the furthest thing from my mind. I find that if I exercise during the evening, I end up giving myself a bit of an energy boost, and then I don't go to sleep as fast.

That being said, since joining Sparkpeople, one thing I like to do is get up a little earlier in the morning and exercise then. We live in a not-so-good area of town, so I cannot walk through the neighborhood, nor do we have an exercise equipment. I usually just get up about 1-2 hours earlier than my family (3x a week), put on a movie or something (a TV series is good, because those are about 45 minutes), and stretch/jog in place for the first half of the show, and then do sit-ups, push-ups, things like that the rest of the time. Exercising like that can give you some extra energy because of the endorphins (the "feel good hormone) your body makes, and you'll find that after that, sometimes you have more energy to get through the day. After I do that, I'll make myself a healthy breakfast, take a quick shower, and by then the rest of my family has gotten out of bed, and I'm ready to go to class.

Doing things like that will also make you want to go to bed a little earlier and you'll fall asleep faster. It's really a good schedule, because you can end up getting close to 8 hours of sleep, and more sleep gives you more energy and can help you lose weight. :-) The morning exercises are harder if you aren't a morning person, but they're totally worth it! :-D

Hope that helps!

You can tell how big a person is by what it takes to discourage him. That's the only "big" I want to be. :-)

Hi ZLWIDOW. Thanks for replying. I'm an English language instructor for the Italian Armed Forces. My breaks and lunch break are spent in my car going from one base to the next, so any exercise during my workday is completely out of the question. However, you did give me a great idea! I've got ankle weights that I'll use while I do housework from the time I get home from work until I go to bed. That's gotta count for something! I also love the dancing while I cook idea. Thanks a lot!

you don't say what you do as your job.
but my suggestions are to walk more during the day
at your coffee break time, walk around outside, or the building inside
park further away from the office. take the bus? get off a stop earlier...
at lunch, go for a walk, take the stairs.
the more you move the more you want to move...
how about dancing during making supper... watching TV, march in place, instead of sitting and watching the show.

Hi! I've been here for about a week and a half and I've read a lot of posts about who is doing which exercise when and how etc... I'm a mother of three, alone most of the time, and I have a full time job. By the time I get home at night and fix dinner, do minimal housework and get the youngest off to bed (almost 2 yrs.)I am COMPLETELY wiped-out! I lost 5 1/2 pounds last week, but I know that it's not going to last long unless I integrate at least some form of calorie-burning exercise. How does everyone find the time? I know this sounds like a cop out, but it really isn't. It's 10.20p.m. and I just sat at the computer about 20 min. ago. It's true, I could have used these 20 min. to work-out but I'm really tired. Does anyone have any advice? I'll even accept criticism...and that's saying a lot because I absolutely HATE to be criticized! Thanks.
