I'm drinking a beer while posting, need I say more? Maybe telling you that it's not the first of the evening will help elucidate my issue...damn, I would have never posted this if I didn't need my daily points lol.

get some cereal and eat it dry. i like the chocolate special K and also the fruit and yogurt one, they crunch so they double-help the cravings.

I'll just DITTO everything that YOOVIE said and add this... That goal line is just that.... a line of progress to reach a goal, it's not set in stone, please don't let it discourage you! And yes... many other changes are taking place that are progress in the right direction, unfortunetly the scale is just ONE way we measure those and does NOT tell the entire story! Keep on moving, you're doing great and will see the results of your hard work!

Your weight is going to start fluctuating all the time and you'll start noticing the pattern. That is why most people suggest picking one day a week to weigh on and always weighing on that same day at the same time, naked, after you pee, before you eat or drink anything.

When you first start losing weight, it feels like you lose a nice chunk of it right away- maybe 5-7 lbs- then it starts evening out. It isn't healthy to lose more than 2 lbs a week, and if you do- you will gain it back very quickly plus more!

You'll start noticing things that affect your weight like time of the month, high sodium days, retaining water, muscle gain, and wacked out metabolism (if you aren't getting enough calories- your body will store EVERYTHING you put in your mouth because it thinks you are starving to death.)

Dont let daily fluctuations mess with your motivation. Losing weight is not a daily gratification- it cannot be. It took us a long time to put weight on, and it's going to take awhile to lose it as well. I never expect to see results more than twice a month- otherwise the small changes in the scale every day would give me a heart attack, with a side of a tick and an aneurysm for dessert.

I suggest you find other ways to measure your progress other than just the fickle scale. Take your measurements every two weeks. See how many crunches you can do, and then try to beat your record each week or each month. Go for long walks and see if you can go farther or beat your time.

All of those things are ways to measure progress and they are not nearly as yo-yo-y as a scale.

Scales do measure your weight, but they are also the enemies of your motivation, drive and determination if you can't learn to keep them in their place. (hidden in the darkest corner of your bathroom or under your bed).

Good luck, and don't give up now!

Bummer,
I've been pretty spot on with tracking calories in and calories out. I've been staying withing my calorie ranges and according to my GoWear Fit have been meeting my calorie goals.
The weight has been coming off steadily, almost 1/2lb a day.
I weigh myself every morning before I've had anything to eat or drink...
This morning I was a pound and a half heavier than I was yesterday morning.
Now, I'm way off my goal line and I'm trying really hard to not get discouraged

Oh NO! But it's gone now, right? It won't be there to tempt you next week right? Get some Special K cereal bars, or Triscuits or something else with a good crunch to snack on next week. Having a bad week doesn't cancel out all the work you've done already, it's just human. And you get a new chance and a whole new week starting tomorrow!

but at least you have accountant in your head working along, keeping track of what is good and bad. Just being self-aware-whether its good things/bad things/both- means your lifestyle has changed alot for the better.

Congratulations. And sometimes, we need a little whine with the girls. We want to keep our morale as healthy as our bodies!

I have learnt the hard way on what a girls weekend away not being able to avoid wine and the eating of sweet cakes at a work morning tea does! No drop in weight this week! Even though I am doing hard cardio 5-6 days a week and weight training 4-5 days a week......

Wine is an absolute killer when counting calories!

SMITSHER - CONGRATS on making that choice, not an easy one, but you are right... when we are honest with ourselves it gives us control! You will be very thankful that you tracked when you go back and look over your progress! But.... watch out for those margaritas, I love, love, love them, but when you look up the nutrition info it makes you think twice about whether those calories are really worth it! Occassional... that's my theory!

Yes,
Over the weekend an impromptu dinner broght me to Loula's mexican resturant. I asked the server to bring me just half of my meal and box up the rest.
I allowed myself to enjoy my margarita and enchiladas and my friendship with girlfriends. Sharing my info on Spark People. Surprisingly I did not need to eat the entire meal in one sitting. Brought the rest of the food home and ate half and gave the rest to my mother. Today I do not feel deprived if I eat a portion of a dinning out meal. I believe tracking the mexican meal for the day was actually helpful. I never knew how many calories and how fat was in a meal like that, therefore wiser for the next time. Plus made me gratful that the next day I had good food in my fridge to go back to my plan. I am glad I was honest about that mexican meal. And me made me look forward to my next grocery shopping day...good feeling to look at my basket and prepared to seeing others and their lack of knowledge about healthy eating...not hating...just observing....thank you everyone for your support..Hope this was helpful to someone..We Fall Down and WE Get Up..Be Bless and A Blessing!

NZCARMEN - Temptations are going to be everywhere, and you will get to the point where those things look like Poison! LOL

Dust yourself off and move forward... you can't change the fact that you caved to temptation, but what you CAN do is learn from that feeling of guilt and decide right here and now that you WILL NOT give in the next time! Say it... "I will NOT give in next time!"

We had a cake bake sale fund raiser for the Samoa tsunami - Of course I had to buy something (not - I could have just donated).... so why did I have to pick the sweatest mort calorie laden cake and eat it too? I've been three weeks clean living with no cravings to date, but when I saw all these lovely homemade treates, I could not resist!

This isn't a cry for help as much, but a little tip for those who may be crying for help. No matter what you're craving, salty or sweet, pop a winterfresh stick of gum in your mouth (sugarfree if you want). It's practically impossible to crave anything when your mouth is super minty and cold!

I have the coca cola addiction too, but I agree with Yoovie - pour a can of it on your car battery and watch what it does. I can't imagine what it does to my body if that's what it does to my car!

I was just telling my husband last night that I have only been following my new eating habits for a week but it feels like a month since I have had a potato chip. I was watching TV and someone was eating a chip and my mouth started watering! WOW! I did not realize the temptation was that strong!

I ate some grapes (green because they are bitter and sweet) and a yogurt. It Worked.

Stick with it! You can do it and you will feel better when you do!

Proud to be 40+

TARA417 - Great job coming here and posting... so sorry that someone wasn't hear to respond to your cry for help earlier! Sugar cravings can be terrible when you are starting a new plan! Here are some suggestions for tricking your mind and body when the urge hits!

Add a bit of sugar free jello to some seltzer water.. you'll get a bit of taste and the fizz!

Eat a peice of fruit... the natural sugars will soothe the craving and not give you many calories at all! By the time you finish chewing it the urge will have passed!

and last... chew a piece of gum, it gives you a bit of sugar and the chewing will take your mind off of things!!

Hope something helps!!! But to you.... GREAT job for posting before giving in... that is the focus and determination it takes!! Woo Hoo!!
