Spark has official training programs that will take you to a 5K distance. You might want to check them out... www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/t

Have your gait analyzed at a running shoe store to make sure you are in the correct shoes (take you current ones with you).

Look into minimalist running shoes, they are good for some and not good for others, but might shorten your stride or change your gait enough to lessen the impact on your legs.

Do dynamic warm-ups before and stretch afterward.

Thanks for the advice. I will try that. My daughter wants to run a 5K. We can train together.

Maybe consider downloading a beginner trainer plan such as a 5K or 10K and that way it would ease you back into it and stop if you feel any pain.

I did see a sports doctor after I tore my calf muscle. He said I could run again after I could walk up stairs without pain. I am just scared after two running injuries in 6 months. I stretched out before I ran too.

I have lots of thoughts:

1. Why?
2. Have you consulted a sports med professional and gotten their advice on running again?
3. Have you been fitted for proper running shoes?
4. I was diagnosed with knee arthritis back in Nov. I could hardly walk up and down my stairs. The dr. gave me some strong arthritis med that did minimal. I found an article about curcumin. I asked my friend's sister who is a natural path dr. and she said yes she uses it with great results in her pts. I quit taking dr's meds. Started curcumin and within a week pain was decreased within 2 weeks no pain and I am still pain free. I run 3x a week and cross train 3x a week.
Best wishes!

I have had arthritis since having my second child 12 years ago. Last year I had two separate running injuries. In May I had water on the knee and back in October I tore my calf muscle running. I have been doing the elliptical and walking on the treadmill but I would like to start running again. I'm just scared of getting injured again. Any thoughts?
