I also have a million recipes I want to try. Maybe this challenge will get me to actually try them instead of just looking at them.

Count me in! I love to cook and bake and have many cookbooks, plus my own, my mom's, and my grandma's recipe boxes, plus a huge stash of recipes I've cut from magazines, plus a bunch on Pinterest, plus a Spark cookbook of ones I want to try....
Maybe I need professional help.

Ohhh, cool! I will try to get in one new recipe before I go on vacation on Wednesday--not a lot of chance I'll be cooking much while visiting Disneyland, I'm afraid!

I think it's a great idea! One of my resolutions this year was to eat less manufactured food (with all the preservatives and other non-food additives) and try to eat cleaner. Of course that means I am going to have to cook more. This challenge fits in nicely with my new years resolution. Let's get cookin' !

I am always looking for new recipes. I rarely follow it though because I am always altering it for more healthy alternatives and personal taste. I have been following special diets so long I doubt anyone would like my recipes. I would likely post original and then my changes. As for the review, I might not try as written. I don't have a way to download photos at this time.

I want to try some new recipes--not too sure if I'll manage every 2 weeks BUT I promise to look at other people's recipes and maybe try some of them! Can I lurk and do that?? I know we'll be out of town for skiing and I won't be doing much "fancy" cooking on vacation! So if I can do when I can, I'm in. If not--I'll just watch this time!

This definitely sounds like fun, should give me an extra push to try new recipes on a regular basis. I have a ton of cookbooks (my mom collected them and I inherited them as well as having a lot of my own before she died). I do go to online sources as well, though. Looking forward to it!

Well this will be fun. I cook 3-4 new recipes every week pretty much!
BTW Nell, I don't find recipes I find online to be wrong... I get all of mine from various websites and blogs. I will say I don't use spark recipes too often... like you said, a lot of processed ingredients and a lot of the member entered recipes are kind of wacky. I do use the recipe builder though, and rarely have an issue finding my ingredients there. I either find healthy recipes online, or not healthy ones and figure out ways to make them more healthy. I do have about a dozen cookbooks (not healthy cooking ones) and one of my goals this year is to cook from them at least once a week. I've found that a lot of the recipes in books are also available online. You can just google the name of the recipe and the author and often they come up. You could do that and copy and paste instead of typing it all out :)
That sounds like fun! I'm always trying new recipes, in fact I'm trying one today both for lunch and dinner. Trying new recipes is how I lost 64 pounds.

I remember a marketing rep told me once that their research showed that people never throw out their cookbooks. Even if they don't use them they keep them on a shelf. Boy is that true for me! The only cookbook I got rid of was the Sparkpeople cookbook. I don't use prepared ingredients. I soak and cook my own beans, never use canned. If I need polenta, I make it. I go to ethnic grocery stores looking for components not found in my own megamart. I love it! I also like recipes that are specific in measurement, usually by weight. I don't want "one large potato", I want to see "10 oz red potato". It's a lot easier to make a recipe that can be altered that way. Online recipes may not be accurate. I just read one that said "1 ice cube" when it really meant "1 pound ice cubes".
And this is why I abandoned Spark's nutrition tracker. If a recipe contains 15 components, some won't be on their list. Or on their list in the wrong way: bananas are measured by weight, not size or serving.
Anyway, I have only made a small proportion of the recipes in my cookbooks, and it would be nice to try the others. Or new versions of the same: I finally found White Lily flour for my biscuits!! I won't have to mix all purpose and cake flour anymore to imitate soft wheat flour.
Like Emeril Lagasse said, I love to eat, so I love to cook.

Nell - That is just going to be up to you. Others may or may not try your recipe. Can you tell why you don't use online recipes? Since we are trying something new, maybe you could give it a go?

For those of us who don't use online recipes, just books, I guess we type them in? I don't mind if I know people will try them, but typing a couple of pages of instructions is a lot otherwise.

Hello team!!
I had started a thread back before Christmas to see if anyone was interested in a recipe game. Many of you were! Tina and I have worked together to come up with something we are super excited about.
Everyone is welcome to participate and it's not necessary to take part every two weeks--join in when you can and sit it out when you can't!
Here's how it works-- -Each "challenge" will take place over a two-week period. During the first week, you'll need to find and post a link to a recipe you'd like to try. By the end of the second week, make and review your recipe. You are strongly encouraged to post a review on the website where you originally found the recipe (if applicable).
-Your review should be posted in a blog on your SparkPage. It can be a nice idea to post a picture and also to say if you would make it again and/or what changes you made or would make in the future. Some other things to consider including in your review could be what you liked and didn't like about the dish, if it was kid/family friendly and how easy it was to prepare.
-Once you've written the blog, you'll need to post a link to it on the Recipe Game/Challenge discussion thread.
The general idea is to try new things and to get ideas from each others recipes. But it is also fun to take one of your tried and true recipes and put it in the calculator to see how healthy it is.
