Hi Anna,

thanks for the tips. I've been reading up since and also managed to get of the meds :) Yes, at the moment I'm managing my diabetes through food and I hope I can keep it up.

If I could do that within 5 months, anyone here can too. emoticon

I completely understand where you're coming from with gradually changing. I'm not complete vegetarian or vegan (chocolate & cheese are my downfall) and eat meat when invited and there is no other option (rare though).

For breakfast I discovered chia pudding. I make it with a twist: 1 tblsp hemp hearts, 1 tblsp flax seed, 1 tblsp whole phsyllium husks, 5 tblsp chia seeds, 1 tsp camu camu powder and either a little bit of fruit or algave syrup. All mixed with 1 cup of almond or coconut beverage, refrigerated over night and next day I'm full until lunchtime.
I want to try making yoghurt from coconut milk and use that instead of milk alternative.

Digestive enzymes and probiotics help a lot I find with digesting and being more alert.

Maybe we can get this thread going and inspire others ;)

protein---it's in more than you think than just tofu and beans.

my morning cereal---"Bob's Red Mill" is whole grain; whole grains are protein. I only get the 10-grain kind, or the steel-cut oats.

i have a blog recently on this cereal--"Breakfast for Becoming a Champion" is what i think i titled it~

hope this starts to help.

also if fat is under goal, add avocado into salads or smoothies and nuts (walnuts!, almonds) into as many meals as you can~

Our household is mostly vegan, though not everyone is as completely diet-health-conscious as I am (out of necessity).

My housemate is an amazing support and makes vegan dinners for everyone. She gets recipe books and tries out lots of great things.

Some things that helped me as well (besides her practical support)

~ hemp seed milk (high in protein)

~ adding kale to smoothies and many meals, and my smoothies have 1 TBSP of raw hemp seeds--more protein)

~ adding nutritional yeast to whatever it makes sense to add to

I'd be glad to keep the conversation going. I'm only a year fully into it, and went gradually in before that~

I had to make a gradual change from lean meats to vegetarian to vegan -- which upset religious vegans, but that's how I had to do it.

I'm trying to make a change to become vegetarian and eventually vegan.
My problem at the moment is getting enough protein and not using beans, TVP or tofu every day. Fat is under my goal too.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions & tips.
