I reduced my cholesterol from 224 to 172 over the last six months. (statin lowered it from 320 to 224 previously).
The reduction from 224 to 172 did involve taking metamucil at least once a day, but I also got serious about the cholesterol down 10 daily things and did a modified Eat to Live Diet (really lifestyle modification) I am a vegetarian for breakfast and lunch and do eat meat but not a lot for dinner now. I also started taking krill oil once a day, eating a big salad for dinner (with beans and low fat dressing). In other words, more fiber. Breakfast is oatmeal most days (meusli). I try to eat a handful of nuts daily.

I was taught it is a help in both constipation and diarrhea. When my DH had problems Dr said take it for Diarrhea that surprised me. I use it every morning it made very little difference in my Digestive system I am still using it but my Dr suggested to eat more ground flax seed and make sure to get plenty of Omega three. We eat salmon and other fish often but Fish oil gave me fish taste all day long. Now I use KRILL oil and it is much better for me. I had FASTING blood work drawn today. I have been doing this for over three months so I am anxious to have that answer for myself. I have problems with statins so I really want to find a better way. Pat in Maine. USA

yes it can, but it is a laxative which can help cause diarrhea or constipation, as well as bad gas. If you experience any, I would stop it.
I found that when I had lost a fair bit of weight - even tho' I didn't have to change WHAT I ate because it was already really healthy - my blood work all came back totally normal, after having been really high for years.
