Enjoyed a hot bowl of oatmeal instead of coffee this morning and I loved it! Saving myself of all the cream I put in coffee. Replacing the cream with skimmed milk in the oatmeal. emoticon emoticon

Anything that is a whole grain that is not very processed will help you to find a good cholesterol balance. I found the following site useful: goaskalice.columbia.edu/foods-lower-
ld
l-cholesterol
. (I also really liked the link a the bottom of this link.)

Keep in mind though that it is really important to read labels. Specifically most instant oatmeal has been processed enough that it won't make much of a difference in cholesterol levels. Instead, read the package and look for old fashioned oats and unprocessed whole grains. (Also, look out for the other processed grains that are posing as whole grains, but really aren't.)

I would think it would be "either/or" but my preference is for the oats (having just eaten a bowl :-) Oats MIGHT be higher fibre, too but can't swear to it.

Is it just oatmeal that is good for lowering cholesterol or would couscous also help? I have just started eating more and more couscous and did not know if it would help.

Thanks in advance
Melody
