I buy mine at Walmart in the baking isle. There is a muffin recipe here that I posted using flax. It's a good way to get that fiber up and it's good too.

Thanks. I will buy them ground since I don't want to use my coffee grinder for anything other than grinding coffee.

You really need to grind them before you eat them to get the full benefits. Grind them in a coffee grinder or buy it already ground which is what I do.

I use them whole. I didn't know you could grind them, thanks for telling me. I try to get some fiber into my diet, but its not easy for me because I hae irritable bowel syndrome. Any suggestions on how I can get more fiber with this disease?

Are you grinding the flax seed or using it whole? Fiber too helps. I'm an avid label reader.

Thank you for the advice. I am trying to give up the sugar and white products, but it's not easy. I do read everything I can find. I even have a book called"The 8 Week Cholesterol Cure", but it is so boring to read it. I will have to concentrate on reading it. Also I do use flax and fish oil in my diet. I add flax seed to a lot of foods.

God will not give you anything you can't handle.

Cut down on sugar and "white" foods, use more whole grains. Exercise and read everything you can get your hands on. Fish oil supplements and adding flax to your diet might help too. Ask your doctor also what he recommends for your situation.

I have high cholesterol but low blood pressure so they don't go hand in hand.

I have slightly elevated blood pressure and my medication has potassium so I don't supplement that but I do try to get lots of natural potassium through the foods I eat. Also with a lot of foods, the marketers do not list the potassium on the labels. So you are actually getting more than you think you are. I read that on WEBMD.

It seems to me that high blood pressure & cholesterol go hand & hand. To lower blood pressure I understand potassium is helpful

Fiber - doesn't have to be oat fiber. You have to eat a lot of oatmeal to get enough fiber. Try a supplement. A study was done in which people added fiber along with their statin. This group was able to lower their cholesterol more than the statin alone group and were able to lower their medication.

Hello -- I have been fighting cholesterol for several years. For one year I ate oatmeal every morning and it didn't do squat!! LOL

10 Foods That Lower Cholesterol

These delicious superfoods can help to lower your levels.

If you have high cholesterol, that doesn't mean you have to resign yourself to a bland diet. In fact, a tasty salmon entree, sweet berries, or a glass of red wine can all help to lower your levels. The next time you go grocery shopping, look for these cholesterol-lowering treats recommended by the American Heart Association.

1. Extra virgin olive oil: helps to reduce plaque buildup in the arteries.

2. Beans:
Kidney, lima, black, navy, and pinto beans are rich in the fiber . Research has shown eating 5 to 10 grams of fiber per day helps to lower LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) by 3 to 5 percent.

3. Oatmeal and oat bran:
Also high in fiber, oats. Oats also help regulate blood glucose levels, a benefit to those with diabetes.

4. Nuts:
Almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, and walnuts contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which are both known to lower cholesterol. Limit your daily intake to one and a half ounces

5. Plant sterols and stenols:
These are natural substances found in small amounts in the cell membrane of plants, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and seeds.

6. Salmon and omega-3 fats:
Omega-3s, found in fatty fish, like salmon, sardines, and anchovies, and in fortified eggs and soybeans, reduce nearly every risk factor for heart disease. They reduce inflammation, reduce high blood pressure, decrease triglycerides, help to make blood thinner and less likely to clot, and raise HDL cholesterol.

7. Alcohol:
All alcohol in moderation (no more than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men) can be beneficial to the heart, but red wine in particular provides antioxidants that offer an extra nutritional boost.

8. Blueberries:
These antioxidant-rich berries also contain a compound that may help lower LDL cholesterol.

9. Cranberry-grape juice:
Antioxidants found in grape juice can help slow the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, and cranberry juice raises HDL cholesterol. Just be sure to purchase 100 percent juice you don't need all the sugar of a juice cocktail.

10. Yogurt with live active cultures (probiotics):
Several studies have shown that probiotics help lower LDL cholesterol by preventing the reabsorption of cholesterol back into the bloodstream.
