Thanks for the input. I have a friend who is a nurse when I told her about my symptoms, she told me to get off of that stuff asap. She also told me to look for another dr. I guess I need to get my thyroid checked too. Who knew what this med would do to your body?

We cannot expect our doctors to keep us well. It is up to us to get enough exercise, enough rest, enough water and enough good food to nourish our bodies and keep them well. If we are doing 'everything right' and continue to educate ourselves, we will not be made victims of the doctors errors....

ADLER24,I gained a couple of pounds but mainly couldn't lose weight. Now, off, I have lost 2 pounds- finally! I think that you are right (poster before last DMAYNE51) that we need to research this stuff before we take anything. It is sad that you can't trust your own dr. You think they have your best interests involved when you need s prescription. I questioned her when she first put me on it but she said it was because we need my triglycerides to be under 100 since i also have diabetes. I have hypothyroidism too. I guess I can't trust anyone to help me??????? emoticon

I've taken myself of zocor for a week now and my joints and muscles do hurt as much. I did notice since the doctor put me on the medication I have gained 15 pounds. Has anyone else gained weight too? I'm taking fish oil and a multi-vitamin with cholestoff. Hope this work and I can drop the lbs I gained.

If none of you have been to an endocrinologist to have your thyroid checked I would strongly suggest it before you get on statins. If you are hypo (low) in thyroid your cholesterol could be unusually high. I'm not a doctor,nor am I an alternative med nut. However;
ya gots to get educated! Consumer Reports even expressed concern about a couple of years ago about some new meds used for cholestorol and one of them was Crestor. There was a research record of muscle pain and concern from CC that not enough research had been done yet. Now think about it. If you listen to the news, you know the Lipitor formula is going to be up for other companies to make money from it now because they are going to lose their patent. (I hope I said the right). Anywho---don't be somebody's lab rat. Glucommanon fiber and Garlicin will also bring down your levels, they've worked for me. There are so many "edibles" as opposed to drugs that will lower your levels which have positive side effects. By the way, the sweet young thing that had fibromyalglia, a low calcium level can also make your muscles hurt. In fact, it's dangerous if your muscles are telling you they need more calcium because your heart is a muscle. Shoot the crudy doctor that gave you a statin when your muscles are already in pain. Slam his thumb in a car door, make him kiss a frozen flag pole, make him watch Martha Stewart reruns. What an idiot. There's also some great Yoga tapes out there by Kathy Smith that will give you relief. You can get them from Target and they're not weird.

I guess everyone is different. I will not take a statin again, I can tell you that. The pain and weakness has lingered and now my pain dr said it could last for a month! I used to take omega 3 and flaxseed as well as noflush niacin before being put on zocor and lowered my overall cholesterol by 18 pts. in a couple of months. As soon as I am feeling better, I am going back to that. Drs push medication when there are natural ways to deal with most problems most of the time. Sometimes we have to take medication and should but if you are doing something and it is working, what is the rational to putting someone on drugs? I also have diabetes and this has made my blood sugars soar, so there must be a connection.

Yes, Prevastatin is prescription. I'm sorry you've had such a hard time with your meds. But it sounds like you're on the right track and I wish you the best of luck in losing the weight. I know it's tough, I lost 16 pounds last year, and have put it all back on! I take Omega-3 fish oil tablets, and that has seemed to lower my cholesterol as well.

I have been on Zocor for about 2 years now. Just recently have noticed a side effect(?) I'm still testing myself of Zocor for a couple of days to see. My blood sugar has been high for just about as long. I was on Januvia to help loose weight and keep my A1c low but my blood sugar was not consistent. Switched to Metformin. BS in 110's all week. Zocor dose doubled. BS back up to 140's. I'm holding both for the last two days and will check tomorrow. Read a possible link between statins and diabetes so with the above changes thought it was worth looking into. Any one else have similar exp?

for those of you taking fish oil capsules, put them in the freezer and take them before breakfast. You won't get the fishy burps that everyone complains about. I have taken it for two days and no burping. Make sure you eat breakfast afterward.

I take zocor and zetia. Zetia works in the intestins somehow. It helped me. Have you tried it? Ask you Doctor about it if you haven't.

What is Prevastatin-prescription? right? My doctor has tried me on every statin I can think of: Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, Levaschol and more so long ago I've forgotten their names. Each one made me sicker than the one before. Each also threw my liver out of whack. I am terrified of trying any more so am trying the Omega-3, with Flaxseed-it helps but very minimally. I have no idea where to go next, but just try my best to watch my fats and am trying to lose weight...it's tough.

I take Prevastatin for high cholesterol. I used to take Zocor and Crestor, but found out I can get Prevastatin at WalMart for only four dollars. I take one tablet in the evening, and it works just as well as the others I've tried. I've had no side effects.

I have been on Zocor for 10 years now, and have had no side effects. My naturopath also suggested taking 100 mg of CoQ 10 as well, which I have added. Being a diabetic as well, I am used to taking medication twice a day, so that hasn't really been an issue for me.

I take 100mg CoQ10 with each dose of 40 mg Zocor as per my doctor's advice.

Thanks for all the replies. I have not tried CoQ10 supplements. I will try that. I am no longer on the zocor but still in pain after a week. Maybe the suppplements will help.

I take Crestor for my cholesterol. It not only lowers the bad cholesterol but raises the good one. I take it in the morning so if it does anything to my leg muscles I don't notice because I am up and moving about. Some people take it at night so they sleep through it. Maybe change when you take your cholestrol meds. Low iron is another reason for muscle pains, especially at night.

Have you tried adding CoQ10 supplements? I take one with each of my Zocor tablets ~ no muscle pain or weakness.
Good Luck

I too had pain. I thought I had arthritis. i'd wake up and my joints hurt so bad. i've stopped taking it and and the symptoms have disappeared. I've called my doctor and am going to see her this week. I have been taking as a supplement Nature Made CholestOff Multi, hoping that it will help.

Has anyone else had any problems with zocor? I took it for 5 week and just discovered I am allergic to it. I have been in terrible pain and weak. I have fibromyalgia so I thought it was that but as it turns out, it wasn't. I feel horrible. My dr said it could take another week before I feel better. I have been off of it for a week now and still feel bad.
