I still haven't seen coupons for super shots. I just consider this like taking my calcium. I have to buy it.

I still have sticker shock at the grocery every week.
Can't seem to keep my bill down where I would like.
the price of green bell peppers has finally dropped by 50%.

I am going to recheck my ads.
The only national chains in town are Kroger & Walmart.
Sam's Club is an hour away, so I never considered it practical. I had somebody from Indianapolis tell me she would mail me coupons.
If anybody finds computer links to coupons [including me], we need to post it.

Check your newspaper today: I had coupon inserts that included Promise Supershots and if you're in the NE, A&P has them on sale, 2 for 6 bucks.
Warehouse places like Sam's has them discounted. Check your supermarkets' online circulars for sales.

I think you misunderstood something. Read about the differences. Osteoporosis is always worse than osteopenia = by definition.

The Spark article talks primarily about osteoporosis.

about the fish oil pills
My doctor doesn't think the pills were effecting me one way or the other. He thinks my problems are genetic. I still think that my numbers would be worse if I wasn't trying to help them.

About triglycerides.
I know a dietician who once told me that the triglycerides are more tied to how many carbs you eat. I had been on a healthy carb diet for 3 months prior to getting the last lab work. Seems nothing is working.

I am hoping weight loss and exercise will make a difference. I know several people who thought that was a key factor.

In the mean time, I am going to buy more Supershots to see if that will help. Somebody suggested coupons, but I haven't found any. They are a little pricey. And exercise & watch calories.

Donna, I take Nature made & I get points from the number I insert on the site, after so many points I get to choose stuff like workout videos and coupons up to $7.00 off nature made products. Mine are the 1200 mg tabs too. & No they don't cause a smell. The garlic I take does.
emoticon

60,
Maybe for YOU, you should only do 1 tab every other day. & I think that is what I am going to try cause mine was 100 points highter than last time too, BUT I was taking them the first time I was checked on Cholesterol and it went higher on the 2nd time. So, I'm no expert, but you should either see your Doctor or do what YOU feel is best. I mean, isn't it common sense to reduce a dosage if it isn't working the first dosage? Ya know? Like me, you are still finding what works for you too. Or if you eat a lot of fish, cut back on that one? I don't know, just a suggestion. I know those of us without Insurance have to find alternate routes to stay healthy.

I heard that omega 3 fish tablets can lower triglyides. Are any of you taking them? Do they leave an aftertaste in your mouth. Any recommendations for brand?

I didn't know anybody ate liver any more.
But then, it is my least favorite food.
Liver is extremely high in cholesterol.

My triglycerides are climbing with my weight loss.
My cholesterol only dropped 4 points, which doc says is a normal fluctuation and not an improvement.

My trigs were up last time too and the LDL's were down. Once you find what works for you then stick to it. I am. Still learning why the trigs are up 100 this time though. The only thing I can think of is cause of Liver. I read somewhere where it is high in Cholesterol, so I quit eating them.

First, always discuss things like "Supershots" with your own doctor if you're taking ANY prescription meds. Bring the label with you (you can go online to get the stats and print them out) so there's no "I THINK it has..." about it.
As for flaxseeds, check out the SP articles...LOTS of info right here (which is why I LOVELOVELOVE SP). I use Hodgson's Mills ground which is available in most major supermarkets in the natural or organic section but also in the cereal (near oatmeal) aisle. Gotta be ground to be effective, as it passes right through you, otherwise. And something I learned from this forum a while ago that turned out to be critical for me and my numbers: coffee can really elevate your numbers! Since I found that out, I now use TWO filters with my percolated coffee pot. I don't see the oil floating on top of my cup anymore!
Coffee and cholesterol: who knew????

Basically, when you try something, IF it works, don't fix it keep taking or doing it. IF it don't, then fix it. Thats my motto. Cuase not everyone is the same and we don't have the same requirements because of Meds or what have you.
Good luck everyone finding what works though. It is nice to have SP to help each other learn about products though.

Yes, If anyone is on Prescription Meds for cholesterol, then I was told by a Doctor, to NOT use Supershots. I personnally am not on Meds YET. & am trying to not have to be in the future. Cholesterol and blood pressure CAN run in families too, I am told.

I don't know about potassium conten, but the active ingredients in the Supershots is the plant sterols and stanols. I am sure there isn't enough potassium to make a difference except to people who need to avoid potassium. [Usually those with decreased kidney function.] But I believe somebody else stated their doctor advised that the Supershots should not be used by people who are on cholesterol medications.

I need extra potassium so that is a good thing for me.

See,e the other thing to consider is, according to my doctor, is, wether or not youre on Prescription Meds for the Choesterol. I am not, yet. I want to first try all natural ways to get it lowered. So, far it's working for me. But the Trigs are up by 100 so I am getting them down. I know what the prob was though, I love Liver and it don't love my Trigs. : )

I was on the maximum dose of Fish Oil for about 7 months before my last blood test. Also was eating old fashioned oatmeal & a very low fat diet. It didn't do anything. My triglycerides went up.

I wonder if a dietician would help me?

I noticed some comments on Flax seed. I was talking to my Dietician the other day and asked if it would help me with my very dry skin and low HDL. I eat a very low fat diet (less than recommended.) She said Fish Oil is better, because some people cannot metabolise Flax seed to Omega 3, whereas the Fish Oil is Omega 3 and doesn't need to be converted by the body. She said the Fish Oil would increase my HDL level which is too low.

Both can be purchased in capsule form. She said that you don't need to pay a lot for them, that some of the cheaper brands have been proven to be better than some of the more expensive ones.

Hope this helps a little.

I have been doing the Supershots for about 6 Months now or so. I love them and they are expensive but considering the other things available, its either cheaper than they are eor about the same in the long run. Consider like Prescriptions, Vitamins, etc,. I took my idea for myself to my Doctor and she said, as long As I ain't taking a Prescription for Cholesterol and I am not at this time, then trying the supershots is ok. They helped lower mine. In that time I Mentioned My LDL went from 144 to 128...
Thats good. Thing is with me, I am learning now how to get my HDL up again, and my trigs lowered. I donot know if the supershots did this, I imagine they didn't cause I hear Liver will raise Cholesteroll something feirce. & I LOVE Liver. I had been eating a lot of it too. I am slacking away now though. Supershots also has it for Blood Pressure too. I, thank God, donot need that one Yet. DH take Prescriptions for his so he can't try it. I asked his Doctor on that one too. Not everyone is the same, so ask your Doctor before even trying Promise Active supershots.

When somthing is of God, NOTHING can stop it. Amen..

I use Flax meal every day. I prefer Bob's Red Mill .which you can get at whole foods, some of the other groceries and also from the health food store. I got some at WalMart one time (not Bob's brand tho), in the flour, etc baking aisle. (It was not as dark brown or as toasty as the Bob's) so I have not been back to check and see if they have one that is darker colored. I understand you can get the seed and grind it yourself (not done this) or you can get flax seed oil. I don't need any more capsules so don't do the seed oil. I doubt I could swallow it if it was not in a capsule..

I think this is the spark article I was talking about.

The Supershots isn't cheap, but I don't remember what I paid for four doses. To me it is like medicine if it works. Except for oatmeal, everything that has been suggested to me is expensive. I had an unpleasant reaction to the pills. I already have symptoms of some heart problems, so I feel it is important for me to do something.

If you are concerned about food:drug interactions, take the label to the pharmacist who fills your prescriptions. He/She can research it. In the past I have had good luck with pharmacists, but since we switched to mail order pharmacy, they aren't willing to tell you anything. I thought they were required to by law. Next would be checking with the doctor.

Somebody mentioned Flax.
WHERE do you buy FLAX? I haven't found it in the store. I looked in the aisle with the cereals and grains & also the flour. Do I have to order it? It does sound like a good choice. Is it expensive?

Thanks to everybody for all the in-put.

I was 'browsing' around for info on supershots and found this site. It seems pretty accurate and you can determine for yourself. Like I said, I tried it but don't use it all the time.. Pretty expensive.

went on alternative site for chol. and they (all the people) seem to think that flax seed is the best for chol. reduction. I have never heard of supershots, Where do you buy them and do they work.

I have used them for a short time on several occasions. And I couldn't tell you if they worked for me... My numbers are not all that great yet. I think they SHOULD work and I have seen several team members that used them with great success. I just think they are a little expensive. (If you need coupons go to coupons.com..... and get a coupon to save a few bucks.) Or maybe PROMISE ACTIVE...

I have not heard of these but I am off to find the Spark article. What exactly are they and can you combine these with meds?
Thank you for starting this thread. It sure caught my attention today.

I know this isn't such a natural remedy. They have added chemicals to it. But I read a Spark article recently on foods that would help cholesterol. The Supershots came to the top of the list.

I bought Promise raspberry Supershots yesterday, and drank my second one today. When I entered it on my food tracker, I had to go to "Import from Other Members." There I found what I had purchased at 70 calories which is correct. But there were also entries that were lower in calories. It seemed to depend on the flavor. Or perhaps there is a light version. One flavor was 45 calories, and another was 50 calories.

What is your experience?
I don't remember who stated it, but somebody said earlier in the week that this worked wonders for him/her.
