I had an invite to go walking with friends yesterday, which was absolutely GLORIOUS! Unfortunately I had to work & couldn't join them. Good news is, I still walked, since I wind up walking 4 miles whenever I work: to train in Woodstock, then from train in CL to work & again back home. Looks like next three days will be in 70's w/chance of storms tomorrow & Th; sunny Wed. but after that, highs in the 40's! Boo!!!
You can call me Sue. I USED to be in good shape prior to surgery near end of July.......still working to get back there, but still not totally recovered yet. Plus, I walked in warmer weather........I don't mind walking in the cold, but not freezing, windy, rainy or blizzardy weather; which, unfortunately, is what we're moving into.
I would love to get together & walk. I live about 5 min from Emricson Park, plus when I take train into CL for work, I wind up walking 4 miles to/from trains & to/from work, then am on my feet all day. I work pt, so would be available to walk some of the time, depending on where. I have no car; either walk, bike or use public transportation; occasionally ride places with a friend.
I know it's getting colder but I would love to find a place to meet and then walk with one another. I just finished my first 5K and, during the 5 week training period, I really got to enjoy it. I'd take my dog with me for the first 2.5 miles but then I thought it would be cruel to take her any farther. Then my hubby who has poor circulation in his legs started to walk with us. It was a lot slower of a pace but he was with us. I loved it. If you knew my hubby, you'd know what a feat this was to even get him to agree to do it. So who out there would be game to start a walking group? I'd like to do this every day as I read an article about a lady here at SP that wound up losing 60# in 7 months just by walking. I always feel so alive and invigorated afterwards.
Hi all! Glad to see there's interest in resuming the McHenry County team! It got so quiet for so long - it would be terrific to have some traffic there again :) The timing is great for me as I'm reassessing my own goals. Life became very busy for me and while I still incorporate fitness into my daily life, I haven't been focused quite enough in the nutrition area. It would be helpful to be back on spark more consistently. I love hearing how other people are successful and learning what tips and techniques have worked for them! Anyways, here's the link: www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_i nd ividual.asp?gid=12135 There are threads there for introductions and chatting, goals and races, etc. Feel free to start up your own topics... looking forward to seeing you all over there!
I've got the smartest and smallest chocolate lab around. She's going to be 6 years old in December and you'd think she was still a baby. Smart, smart, smart. I have a dear SPer here who has 8 cats. She just walked the 5K with me today (virtual walk) and is a great person. She leads the Pet Lovers team and I co-lead with her. Lots of great stories there about member's pets. Great bunch of people.
Welcome SprinkleChez. Super glad to hear about your interest in getting something started. I'll keep you posted on anything I conjure up. You mention a surgery and I'm not sure where you saw that. Can you help refresh my memory about the surgery and where I may have posted this?
You can count me in, I am in McHenry County - and love the idea of having some meetings or planned social and exercise events. This is GREAT - and I will help you in any way I can to make this work. If I may ask, where did you have your surgery? Was it at GSH or NIMC?
Hope you had a great weekend and may God bless you today and every tomorrow. Your friend - "Sprink"
I really don't worry about tomorrow anymore, because Today is enough for me. God bless you and yours always - "Sprink"
That's good news. Thanks for answering my post. I'm in Cary. So why don't we work on getting something together for those of us from this area? You mention that you had a team but that many have left. Can you fill me in a bit about this and maybe we can re-ignite the interest for this area.
FYI, I've been training for my first 5K that's due to happen on the 16th of October. Maybe we can work out a place, common to all, that we can all meet at and do a walk.
Please let me know what you had in the past and what you'd like in the future.
Thanks so much for writing back about this. I'm excited about the possibilities. ;)
Just took some time to become more familiar with this team and realized that I could start up a posting area for those of us in McHenry County, Illinois. Hopefully, we can team up together and learn from one another here, maybe even set up an actual meeting spot for in-person meetings .... if we get that big.
So please, come join me so we can share and root each other on to our victories and successes here at SP!
