Unfortunately, this forum is pretty quiet. I'm surprised, since there are a lot of members. I try & post a couple times a week. Maybe this forum will get more active, when the weather warms up.

Hope you are able to find a workout buddy, in the BG area. Everything is more fun, when you've got a friend to share it with.
I'm much farther north, near Antioch/Spring Grove. Moved in April 2013, after 23 years in the Bartlett area. Haven't had a chance to get out and explore the trails around here yet. There was just to much going on with remodeling the house, we bought.
I'm really looking forward to spring. There seems like there are plenty of great trails to hike & bike ride.

Hi there!

It looks like no one has been here for a while but I'm going to try to start this back up as it could be helpful.

i live in waukegan, il not far from you:) emoticon i joined spark people to try and lose 20 pounds i am a weight watcher life time member i lost 150 pounds on weight watchers, but i am slowly gaining back not because weight watchers didn't work but because i love food so i have to get back on track and start watching what i eat. my goal is to lose the weight and keep it off and to learn how to maintain my weight once i lost it. so lets encourage each other :)

Hello,

My name is Maryann and I live in southern Lake County. This seems like a fun place to keep track of my goal and meet people as well. I like to do 5K's but do fitness walking rather than
running as my knees have given out. I have done two Chicago Marathons and do miss the running.

The next race I will do is for breast and ovarian cancer. It is a great event and is on October 21 in Highland Park. I would encourage anyone to sign up!

I live in Antioch and recently quit smoking (almost 6 mths now!) and joined when a friend suggested that perhaps I could use the support to stay quit and also to get fit. (I have gained 12 lbs. since I quit which I guess is quite common).I have learned much and still learning!

While the weather is starting to get colder again here (southern Ill.) just wondering if it makes anyone else just want to stay in, eat and cover up? If you have other ideas I'd be glad to listen to them. Of course if I were back in Lake Co. I'd be out ice fishing!

Hi, getting a slow start after the Holidays, but it looks like we're pretty close in the weight category. I got down to 179 but when I have a club meeting which is twice a month St. Barths Seniors, we have a luncheon followed by Bingo. It's nice it keeps me busy but somehow I manage to gain a pound or two. Always seems harder to take it off as I cook for my husband and don't bother to make a separate supper for me. There are days when it goes pretty good but then those other days somehow seem to get closer together. Maybe we can start a few days at a time and see how we do? Will close for now so this doesn't get to long.

Good Morning Everyone,
I live in Lake Villa and am on my (cant keep track)attempt to lose weight. I feel though I will succeed this time. I eat due to stress. Right now I feel stress free. So I'm going to give it my all this time.
I have Fibromyalgia pretty bad. I am, no I was limited to what I can do but I am ready not to use this as my excuse anymore.
I wish everyone luck on their daily battle with the weight villain.

Hi, I just joined this site today and I'm excited to get started. I've put off doing something about my weight gain for too long, it's time to get serious. I live in Lakemoor, grew up in Wauconda, IL. I plan on joining the local gym in town. Mostly what I need right now is motivation. I'm no stranger to being active, exercising or losing weight. I've done it before and I'll do it again. I had twins 18 months ago and it's just been a downward spiral with my weight gain since then. I plan on being at the pool a lot this summer and I can't show up looking like I do now!!!!

When I ready your note, I just had to reply. I, too, live for my 8 year old grandson. I have him every weekend and sometimes during the week. He loves me so much and I don't understand how I can not loose weight for him, but I haven't. I'm going to start again. Today I weigh 322 lbs.

Hi Megan,
I work in Mundelein. I am also trying to get back on track.I even have a contest going with my boss. The first one to loose 50 lbs. has to pay the other $100. We started June 17th (I think) and neither of us has really lost anything. I really thought that would be my saving grace. Write back if you'd like. I'm going to try to get on SparkPeople on a regular basis.

We were at my youngest grandson's 2nd birthday party yesterday and it's always fun to be with him and all the family was there so it's great to see all the grandchildren together. Hi, good to hear from you. The time sure does fly by. I also try to get some fruit in every day but have to be careful as to much fruit gives me an appetite. I do like Fiber One granola bars as they have a lot a fiber and keep my hunger in check to try to keep within 1500 calories. Will be getting ready for my son and wife and twin grandbabies from San Francisco coming in next week-end for 5 days. This will be their third stay with me. They are really special and the time goes so fast. Coming days will be a little hectic. Trying to make their favorite dishes. We are celebrating Thanksgiving early as the Airline traffic around the Holidays is bad, I hope I could find a fresh Turkey if not I will have to get a couple of Roast Chickens so I could stuff them,

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you - it's been a very busy last couple of days! I love aerobics classes at the Centre Club and my favorite is Zumba which I was doing 3 times a week along with several other aerobics classes. Planning on going tomorrow for the first time since I was sick - since Aug.29! I love fruit so the summer has been great with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, pineapple, cherries, grapes (I am allergic to all melons) and I usually have at least 1 Dannon Light n' fit yogurt. I have grown to like salad too but not as much as fruit. I have salmon and tilapia every week and ground turkey with onions and spices on the days between the fish. I have an apple every morning with naturally more peanut butter and I drink mostly water. I enjoy cream of wheat a lot too and organic rolled oats and steel cut oats. That should give you plenty to think about! I do like chocolate too but I try to abstain as much as possible because it's hard to stop once I start!!

Hi, good hearing from you. I learned at TOPS the best motivation is support, that really seems to help, especially all the things you learn about choosing the right foods and mostly doing exercises faithfully even tho some days are better than others I try to do at least 2 miles on the stationary bike every day. What was your favorite exercise or food that helped you lose all that weight?

Hi thought your website was interesting. My son is coming from California in a couple of weeks and will help me get pictureson the computer as believe I could transfer frommycameratomy computerwillwait till he get here as he is the expert.
I use to walk at Gurnee Mills but since they didn't make it a complete circle it is hard sometime to walk all the way toothe end and then know you have to walk back. Will probably try half way, but waiting to lose about ten pounds so it won't be so hard on the knees. Your messages to me are very motivating.

I haven't reached goal yet but pretty close. I do lots of classes at the health club in Gurnee, Centre Club but I haven't been there since August because of illness! I really miss it and hope to be back this week. I also walk at least 5 miles a day, I wear a pedometer all the time! I usually cycle to when I'm at the health club. I've noticed my weight creeping back since I haven't been working out but I needed to rest and recover. I know workouts are crucial to maintaining my weight. I think if I follow the spark eating plan I can maintain though. Good luck with your health journey!

Hi Clavinova, good to hear from you. Have you reached your goal weight? Do you exercise to keep it? What exercises do you do to maintain your weight?
I go on the stationary bike but that seems to just keep me from gaining. Had knee surgery so I don't do arobics but walk and some tai chi.

Hi, I belong to TOPS for a numberr of years. Lost and gained, most of it came back. Now trying to loose 20 pounds, but its not that easy. I have low blood sugar so have to eat often, and the right foods which is easy to get off track. I have tried different diets, but at least I don't gain weight.l love reading all tips, some do help keep me motivated.

We had our 2 year old grandson over again yesterday and he is a livewire! I have to be in GREAT shape to keep up with him but he is adorable and really makes us happy even though exhausted. I am a piano teacher so I work when everyone else is coming home, but I love my career. We are participating in a huge multi-piano duet festival at Northbrook Court Mall this weekend. Everyone is invited if you're interested. It will be in front of Lord and Taylor and begins at 11 AM. Saturday we're rehearsing and Sunday is the actual performance but we do the same music both days. Have a great week and stay sparked!emoticon

Welcome ARP!
For Bluowner - I am starting to finally recover and I also have 4 grandchildren. One of them, the oldest, I have been raising since he was 3 and the next oldest one has been adopted by a wonderful family and we get to visit on occasion. Then we have a 4 year old adorable granddaughter and 2 year old amazing grandson! My grandchildren are a big reason why I decided to change to this healthy lifestyle. Eating healthy does seem to be the main goal for you right now and whatever exercise your body can handle!

When you get to a plateau, think of it as a landing on the stairway to your goal. And maintenance is a lifelong plateau, so a bit of "rehearsal" for maintenance isn't the worst thing in the world.

Thanks for the support. I hope you are feeling better. I noticed you have lost quite a few pounds. Good Job!!! I think I'm going to stop pushing dieting just watch what I eat. Vegetables, fruit and little meat. Let me know how you are? How many grand children do you have? I have 4.

So sorry to hear of your struggles but this is a great place to learn and make friends. I can't relate exactly to your situation but I just found out yesterday that I have pneumonia and that's why I haven't been able to shake this cough and congestion and I have gained weight during this month of being sick and unable to workout. Fortunately this will eventually pass for me and I know you have to always deal with your problem but hopefully this site will help you. Hang in there and never give up!

I live in Lake Villa. I work 20 some hours a week and I don't drive right now. I have fibromyalga and I am on alot of meds. I have gained over 100 lbs in two years. I want to lose it but have alot of set backs. Can anyone relate?

I go to the Centre Club in Gurnee which is the health club affiliated with Condell. I haven't been there in a couple weeks because I've been trying to get rid of this virus that's going around with the coughing and congestion and I really miss being there! I've been walking around the house extra though to get my 10,000 steps or more in every day.
Have fun walking with your dogs today - weather is supposed to start getting cooler already Wednesday!

Pretty much the only walking I do is with the dogs around the block. I really should do more, since they need to shed some pounds as well. Especially before winter comes!

I haven't been to the Centre Club. Is that a gym? We go to the Grayslake YMCA.
