I can totally relate to what you said. Sometimes I forget what I am going to say or say the wrong thing and believe me my kids LOVE to correct me. Some times i get aggravated because they KNOW what I mean but insist on correcting me anyway. I guess to them its funny when I call the blender a can opener!
I also go into a room and forget why. I usually blame everything on my age or weight but looks like I have another scape goat! I recently started drinking smoothies with fruit flax seed and greens so am hoping this will help.
It sure does help to know I am not alone. emoticon

It's nice to know I'm not the only one with Noun Deficiency--I'd never heard of it before, and was wondering what was going on. Especially since I've always been very verbal, and prided myself on being able to come up with just the right word to turn an idea humorous.

When it first started noticing Noun Deficiency, I would just stop in the middle of a sentence and stare off into space while digging for the word. Now I start describing the object out loud until someone recognizes it and says the word. Sometimes that's even me!

My best story is the day I walked up to the fish counter, started to ask for something I'd been thinking about all day, and just plain failed to find the word. So, I tried, "Do you have that pink fish that often comes from Alaska, you can eat it smoked, local Native Americans have cooked it on a cedar plank..." "Salmon?" "Yep!"

This coping mechanism might sound a bit embarrassing, but it feels less frustrating than just stopping dead.

My memory is starting to improve now that I have incorporated green smoothies(mostly parsley, kale and Swiss chard along with ginger and turmeric) into my diet.

Don't do them everyday, now that its getting cooler, but I've noticed a difference.

Might be also be placebo effect? Dunno.

Verbal directions are the worse for me... names, numbers, math.
I need a to have a map drawn, and have north pointed out to me when I am in an unfamiliar place.

Frankly some days I feel as if I have had repeated TIA's in that portion of my brain.

There are things you can take to help with your memory during perimenopause? Are they hormones or supplements? I have to avoid hormones, or supplements that mimic hormones because I had a blood clot several years ago.

I never thought about perimenopause as being a reason for forgetfulness. But that definitely explains why I'm searching for words lately.

I so understand all of this!!! I just not sure I can remember it!! LOL!! I am struggling at work due to this....definitely not a good feeling. People tell me things or ask me to do things and then I forget.....doesn't make for the best of working relationships. My other symptoms are lack of concentration, headaches/migraines, and trouble sleeping. How do you all deal with this?? I am growing more and more frustrated which by the way is not helping!! Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

Crikey I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm 46 and my memory started getting really bad a couple of years ago. I put it down to make accident and surgery, and being in pain fr a long time. But i've been thinking for a while perimenopause has a lot to do with it! Now reading this I think I'm right!

I keep forgetting names and place names. Since I'm a historian/genealogist, this is really inconvenient! Several relatives on my dad's side have had dementia, but my sisters (and cousins) and I all hope to take after my mom's side. My mother is 87 and her sisters are 90 and 92. They don't remember everything, at least not always when they want to, but they are in great shape both mentally and physically, as were earlier female ancestors.

I'm always forgetting the nouns, too. Interesting.

My mom was the same way. She ended up with alzheimers.

Can you get DH off the Statins? I've heard there are better ways out there.

I seem to be losing my nouns! When I start a sentence I forget the noun. I can describe the object .ie. a red round thing you throw (can't remember "ball").
It concerns me when DH doesn't remember some important things I've told him. I never know if he didn't hear me or really doesn't remember. Memory loss can be a side effect of statins which he is on.

I'm just starting to forget things. I always laugh at my husband who forgets things alot more now. And now I'm doing it. It can get quite embarrassing. I definitely need a calendar (I should hang it around my neck) to write down everything. I may have to get a bigger calendar that can fit more stuff on it.
