I have to agree the visual on Denisekj is awesome! Especially because we have stairs all over my work, and now when I'm walking up them I'm going to burst into giggles for no reason.

I can't stop smiling at the visual of DENISEKJ announcing "QuickFire Challenge!!!" and her husband following her on her stair circuit at the post office or wherever they were. Reminds me of when I was a teenager and we would do "Chinese Fire Drill!" at stop lights. Everyone gets out of the car and runs around and gets back in. And I apologize if the name of that drill offends any Chinese people. It's what they were called and I don't know what else to call them! No offense intended!!!

I'm doing several of the suggestions listed in this thread, especially the contracting the stomach muscles and leg lifts and stuff.

My building is 7 floors so sometimes I do 10 minutes of stairs in the stairwell.

Norah -- If it's in a can, a bag, or a box, it's probably not good for you so put it down.

Move your hips and abs from side to side like a belly dancer in your chair at work... works at the abs in the phone conversation. You can also do standing crunches while at work, since those don't look nearly as odd, and keep things amusing.

on my 30 minute lunch break i go for a walk and walk up hill for fifteen minutes then back down the hill for ten minutes which leaves me time to eat something before returning to work. I always feel better after doing this too, more centered and cheerful.

When out shopping I park my car further away from the entrance. Whenever I run the vacuum or do housework I play my favorite workout tunes to keep me moving and to take the boredom out of cleaning. I do lunges as I shovel the snow. In the garden I do a lot of bending to pull all of the weeds. I also have a very long driveway on a hill, I run up & down it when weather permits me to do so. emoticon

Not sure what a computer crunch is but a wall crunch is standing facing the wall with your hands on the wall about a shoulder width apart. Then just due a push up against the wall. For me its easier than a floor push up which bothers my wrists.

When my kids were little (my "3 little darling's" boys) I used to tell them if they were quiet and no fighting to where ever it was we were going I would park as close as I could, If not I would park as far away as possible!! It worked but I remember having to park far away!! LOL
How they hated to walk!! I was smiling emoticon

the stairs!! i have to take two flights every day to get to where i work. also at a factory the parking lots are ridiculous so i always have to walk far.

at work instead of taking smaller batches of stuff around for more trips (example onions to cut) i take all of it at once to help strengthen my arms.

when i am reading i lay on my stomach or back and do easy leg exercises that i think help alot.

Just a heads up I decided to offically make kegels my photocopying/scanning exercise each day, they are discret and if someone walks in they won't even know I am scretly doing them lol...I finally just started recording them yesterday in my fitness journal yesterday (should have done that since I started doing them) I did 17 kegels (I hold for 5 secs at the moment and I do as much as I can while standing at the photocopier machine)! now that will have to make a difference afterwhile.

Yesterday I decided to do calf raises or kegels at the photocopier because I usually have to stand there for a few minutes scanning and copying large documents. I was just thinking I could probably do some pelvic tilts while I am standing there too and whatever else I can think of (maybe I will assign a different exercise for each day of the work week since I usually have stand there everyday emoticon

Calf raises when I'm chained to my desk in the office!

Some bellydance isolation drills can be done at a desk too. So I get mini crunches done AND keep my lower back from getting tense from being in the chair most of the day.

I generally walk around the block/building before I go into the office in the morning. When I get there I make sure I use the stairs to go up to my floor.

During my workday I do close arm wall pushups, toe raises, squats, lunges, jumping jacks, and tricep dips during my bathroom breaks. I also volunteered to be the official water restocker in our mini fridge, I do squats as I'm restocking it and carrying those cases of water can be tough.

I like using my Exercise ball as a chair while I'm on the computer.
I also like to make every day chores into exercises. for example, I do leg stretches, balance on one leg, and neck stretches while I do the dishes.

When I go grocery shopping I like to walk briskly (taking care not to knock people over!) and lift heavy products like I would if I were weight training.. I'm sure you get the drift. I also park further away from the entrance too.. pushing those carts have to count for something!!

Another favorite is taking out the garbage. I used to hate doing it, but now I look forward to it and try to every chance I get! I take the garbage out and when I come back in I take the stairs to the top floor of my apt. building then walk back down.. if I am feeling real good that day I will do the stairs a few times :)

Even house cleaning and rearranging things will get a good workout in there!

Watching TV is a great time to exercise too. I like pushups, crunches, and squats are awesome because you can still see what's going on lol!
Jumping jacks are good before bed and in the morning I like the morning because it gets me moving for the day :)

I hope this is useful for someone out there emoticon

I have no choice but to work off extra calories at the moment though I can't actually say it's fun. I live at the top of a mansion block and the lift is currently out of order - has been for ages. 156 stairs up or down each time I want to go out and back. With shopping bags very often! emoticon

I drive school bus and have 20-30 min layovers from time to time. To make the best of the time (and to keep warm without bus running) I do whatever little exercises I can manage standing in the isle space, on the stairs to the door, or I lock 'er up and go walking!

Thanks for the invite, Mic.

I've been a member for a little over a year now and after weighing myself the other day I found that I GAINED 10 pounds! I really need to focus and do the right things for myself. I'd like to lose 10 pounds before mid April (my b-day) and I'm going to try my hardest!

Hi,
Got Mic's invitation to join you all today. I could do with some quick challenges that are not time consuming but can be worked into life as it happens (which seems, at present, random and unpredictable). So, I'm in!

I love these challenges. Instead of smoke breaks I take QuickFire breaks ~non smokers never get a break~. I get a few chuckles from the crew (especially the duck walk, but it's all good natured. I can even tease them into trying it once in a while (especially the duck walk) emoticon emoticon

My husband gets a kick out of watching me, but I have a few things that I do that really add up. When I do a load of laundry, I bend over or crouch down to pick up each piece one at a time and move it from the hamper to the washer and then to the dryer. When I take it out of the dryer, I put the basket on the top of the washing machine, so I have to bend down to get it out of the dryer and twist when I put it in the basket. I then take that basket to the living room after picking the heavy basket up about 10 times and then when I get it into there I fold it in the living room while standing so I can get even more movement in. No it's not the quickest way to get laundry done, but it's a great way to add some exercise to a job that has to be done anyway.

I use that same kind of idea when I load the dishwasher, lots of bending and twisting, even leg kicks, push-ups, crouches. I clean or walk while on the phone. And if I'm watching something on tv, I try to do something from crunches or even marching in place.

Computer Crunches and more from http://www.ehow.com/way_5760230_stomach-ex
ercises-sitting-chair-work.html)

Computer Crunches:

This exercise is a simple and easy way to sculpt your stomach while sitting. This can be done at a desk. Keep your back straight with your feet on the floor. Press your lower back into the chair, contracting your abdominal muscles. This will simulate a crunch. Hold this for up to 30 seconds and repeat. You can do as many reps as you like. This exercise will strengthen your ab and stomach muscles, whiled stretching them out and making them more flexible. After performing your computer crunches stand up and relax your stomach muscles. Relaxing and stretching worked muscles after every workout helps prevent cramping during exercise.

Belly Swinger:

In the belly swinger you use your hands to work on your stomach and ab muscles. Take one hand and gently move the muscles in circular motions. Start going clockwise, then reverse and go counterclockwise. Change hands and work the other side of your stomach, moving up and down all over the stomach. This will relax the muscles in your stomach and can even increase their strength. As this exercise goes on, you'll be able to do it without your hands, increasing its effectiveness.

Stomach Twist:

The stomach twist is a simple stretch and muscle workout for your stomach. Put your hands on your chair arms and twist your body to the right as far as you can. Since you're sitting, you'll be twisting completely at your stomach and abs. Hold the pose to the far right as long as you can and then move to the left, doing the same. This exercise will stretch any tight, tense muscles and loosen them up. It is an excellent exercise to perform after doing stomach strength exercises. It also increases your stomach and ab muscles' range of motion.

Putting good music always gets me moving, too.

I have some that I do..

My son's school is about 2-3 minutes down the road.. So, Instead of driving him to school and picking him up.. We walk. Of course if it isn't raining too hard or snowing to bad, Or just way too darn cold for him to handle.

When I'm on the phone (I'm a huge phone person and am seriously on it a lot) instead of sitting down I walk around the house.. Even sometimes clean while I talk.

After School, When my son is home we will talk about his day and then he'll teach me the new songs and dances they've learned and we'll do them together. If he hadn't learned a new one we'll do ones he already knows (Like head, shoulder, knees and toes.. Hokey poky.. Etc).

Take my two dogs on decent walks.. During school hours. My son is only 5 and we wouldn't make it far if he was coming with me. lol

While cooking dinner I will make sure to keep moving, even if it's just swaying from side to side or stomping my feet.. my son loves to do the stomping feet with me. lol

I actually have a few more I do.. But, I think I took up enough room. :-) I really am loving this group and so glad I was told about it.
