I adore the smell of new mown grass. It's the only "hay fevery" thing that affects my sister--her throat closes up. But I inhale that smell just as deeply as I can. It's so fresh. I liked the Berty Botts Every Flavor Beans (you know, from Harry Potter, made by Jelly Belly) grass flavor--it tastes the way newly mown grass smells!
Thanks for the good wishes, Wispy. Being with my best gal pals, there will be *lots* of love and laughter, possibly tears, fun, food, friendship and *lots* of talking!

That's right, Wispy, your seasons are opposite to ours, being on the other side from the Equator. For me & Spring: More daylight! (My night vision for driving is not that good, so I don't get around much in the winter.) Everything budding and blossoming--I love watching blossoming trees and tiny new leaves unfurling! Though I don't always get back up north to the Skagit Valley, I love tulip season and the amazing sight of the tulip fields in full bloom during the Tulip Festival. Are you all familiar with the Peace Gardens and the tulip as a symbol of peace between nations? You can read the story on the website--ipgf.org? I think the organization is International Peace Garden Foundation. The story makes me cry --OK not that hard, and in a good way.

New question - 3 Reasons Why You're looking forward to Spring (although in Wispy's case 3 reasons you enjoy warm weather)
1. seeing the Spring bulbs start to peek out of the ground 2. Getting out more - I hibernate in winter 3. fresh asparagus at a reasonable cost and salad veggies from the garden
Id love to have photos, but no camera and no way of getting pics on line. I chose those pics from "on line" sources, because I loved them all. The only one that is me is the one with grand kids, several years ago now before I was disabled. Gosh ten years - how time flies. :o)
That cabin on the beach is my inner getaway as a change from my "forest". It seems I am a poet at heart, so the description may sound much better than the reality. But that is how it looks and feels to me.
Good golly - yes about the joints. I suggest starting before they are like mine currently. Bounce. Tee hee. That would be a sight to see for sure.

@Amanda - it's very good for joints. I wouldn't be able to use it otherwise and I believe it's quiet if it's a good one. It's only the trampoline part that bounces not the frame.
I agre about Wispy's home. I checked out her pictures months ago. It looks like she lives in Paradise.

Wispy, I had no idea--your home sounds just exquisite! Do you have pictures? I popped over to your page, and saw that amazing vacation cabin right on the beach (I *so* want to stay there!!), but didn't see any of your home, which sounds just so lovely.
That rebounding sounds interesting. I'll check it out. How is it on joints? And does it make much noise--as in downstairs neighbors, for apartment dwellers like me?

Wispy's right - it's a mini trampoline. They've come a long way from $40.00 ones at KMart. Mine will hold a 370 lbs person and has a stabilizer bar. Just doing what they call a "health" bounce is suppposed to do wonders for your intestinal health. I have a brand name called Reboundair. Just google rebounding to read about the health benefits. My only problem is that I'm very well endowed (mostly fat!) and my girls bounce too much, so I have to hold the stabilizer bar with one hand and put the other arm under my bra - I'm sure I look hilarious!
@Emmy - That's my dream too! I always enter HGTV's dream cabin contest. I would love if you could send me a Sparkmessage with a link to that manufactured home that looks like a cabin. We bought a small travel trailer 2 years ago but didn't use it at all last year. We couldn't find a spot that didn't have one RV on top of another. I want to camp to be out in nature not have neighbors right on top of me.
I think its when you jump up and down on a small round thing like a trampoline. Its called a Rebounder over here - I seem to recall. :)
Keep up your dream Emmy. I did exactly that, all except the fire pit. Bought a section at the foot of the ranges, near the ocean, it was a bare field except for one enormous ancient totora tree, with an old cottage on it. We planted trees all round and I desinged the garden as I wanted it. It is like living in the centre of a small forest, with flowering vines and perfumed flowers. The cottage is revamped with enormous windows all round that open out on to the decks. The big back deck is covered from the sun, with a bougainvilliawhich blossoms for most of the year. It is evrything I hoped it would be. Took about ten years to get "the look" and has just got better and better.
Hugs Wispy.

i love swimming and water aerobics. Hiking is so much fun to me i love to go camping. My husband loves the outdoors as well when i first met him i told him take me camping because i have always wanted to and never got to as a child so he did. I love being in the great outdoors my wish is to live in a piece of land on the foothill of the mt. and have a cabin home or manufactor home that looks like a cabin. We have seen a one that fits the description. That is my hope and dream. It will feel like camping always. We will have an outdoor area with a firepit to sit around. I could roast wieners all year long lol oh i went off babbling...
i with Amanda would like to know what rebounding is?

What is rebounding? I'm totally unfamiliar with the term.
I love swimming--though I cut down after my should started hurting I adored the water aerobics classes at an independent health club in Mt Vernon, WA; no other place has had ones as good that I've found Actually I have several others--walking and hiking, the elliptical machine (easy on the joints & I can read a large print book at the same time), some of the weight machines at the club (they feel safer with a structure around me, and I like the feeling of my body getting stronger)

3 songs that make you smile when you hear them and make you want to sing out loud!
1. Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog - 3 Dog Night 2. I Feel Pretty - West Side Story 3. I Feel The Earth Move - Carole King
Ummmmmmmmm. thinking ... well I have to say I cant think of anything. Thats not to say there isnt anything. But I mostly seem to do everything I want or need to do on a daily basis. Perhaps gardening.... some days I could do a little bit more, but it doesnt really bother me, I enjoy it when I do it.
On the other hand I would LOVE to have fresh strawberries all year round. That is one thing I would love more of. Sad to say I lost a whole lot I had been freezing this year when the freezer broke down last week. And they are almost over, too expensive to buy in bulk now. :o) New freezer is coming on Tuesday.

Thank my Higher Power for a good nights sleep and a new day.
Spend time doing things I love to do - every single day.
Thank my Higher Power for my sobriety and sanity ask for forgiveness for myself and the world and bless all those I have thought ill of during the day, then give myself into His/Its keeping.

What are 3 positive things you do for yourself every day without fail? 1. Brush my teeth 2. Make my bed 3. Pray and thank the Goddess for something positive in my life (as I begin my breaktime walks at work, whatever the weather, my first words are usually "Thank you, sweet Goddess, for this glorious day in paradise!")

Being mindful is what helps me most, or staying consciously aware of what I am saying and doing is perhaps a more clear way of putting it.
Regarding my eating. I plan and record my menu on a daily basis. Although I do not follow the spark suggested way of eating - way too many carbs and processed food for me. I plan my food each day and keep below 20 carbs to maintain my weight and then have to go on to 1000 day low cal as well in order to lose. Age and lack of exercise coupled with a slow metabolism mean I cannot lose if I eat more than that. So it is slow losing, but steady and I am happy to be eating in a healthy way for the problems I have. Fresh protein and veges in the main.

1. Learning Reiki - the local adult education has a one day class for practitioner level 1 for $150.00. Does anyone know if that sounds about right?
2. I just found an old box of stamps I collected 50 years ago and I'm researching on line. I'm also taking my other antiques to the corner to have them appraised and to sell them on consignment
3. I saved the homefinder paper this week and will call a realtor in the next couple of weeks.
4. Oh and I'm not putting off taking care of any financial matters

For those of you who shared a focus for the year (or 3!), what is a single step you can take to work towards each one?
1. On the organizing /decluttering--I'm enjoying a new routine (a 6-day streak so far!) of doing one positive thing in each room/area of the apartment each day. 2. Finances--recording all spending, which is a step toward eventually working out a budget. 3. Oops! forgot the 3rd one I listed here.

1. Remaining at peace in the midst of trauma going on around me. 2. Responding from who I am to whatever comes and not reacting to the words of others. 3. Maintaining my current weight or hopefully losing a few more pounds.

1. Learning how to profit from my clutter LOL! I need to learn how to sell my collectibles and other "stuff". I've donated all I want to donate. 2. Sticking to my diet plan so I become more fit and have the energy to do all I want to do (i.e. overcoming my CFIDS) 3. I'd love to learn Reiki but don't know how to start. Can't spend much money learning it however, so that's probably not doable.

OK, here's a new question: What are 3 skills or life areas you plan to work on this year? 1. Organizing and clearing clutter! 2. Increase my financial awareness and knowledge. 3. More consistent study and practice of spiritual disciplines--yoga, meditation, Wicca

You will get there too Gabby. I always had the desire to be free, but not the experience or lessons that life teaches. I never wavered on wanting to walk this path, it has been with me all my life. Where I am now is the result really of my lifetime focus. In everything that came up I have tried to learn the lessons and give thanks for each experience and ask for the wisdom to learn what the lesson was when the fault seemed to lie with other people.
I have had many setbacks and this part of my journey didnt really start till after I got sober in the late sixties, or maybe early seventies. That changed my life. Before that, I knew the spiritual path was the one that I was cut out for, but I couldnt get there somehow. I found a man called Idres Shah, knew he was going to be my main Teacher along the way, and shortly after that I got sober, and I have devoured everything he ever wrote. He has written over 100 books. It is strange that I knew I was never ready to meet him, I was preparing myself and the very week I finally wrote to him - he died. There is no coincidence in that I am certain. But he was the one who taught me how to apply the lessons I needed to learn, along with putting the the basic AA philosophy into my daily life. I was never perfect or even very good at it to my way of thinking and I used to wonder at the grace of God that kept me even sober, never mind walking on this path. But looking back itis all like a wonderful carpet, the threads are all woven together and I wouldnt change a stich. It is like the pattern of my life. Perhaps we each have a carpet. Perhaps that is where the idea of a magic carpet originated.

Wispy that post was
I'm so glad that we have your wisdom and experience on this team.
Ladies, it is life itself that brings home these truths as we get older. I did try to let go of stuff when I was younger with no success because it wasnt from the heart, it was just because I knew it would make life easier, but I was still too attached. I do believe there is season for everything. I too was a collector especially of antiques, I had an antique business for some years when I was in my twenties and early thirties. I was so attached to them Gabby, when anyone would come in the shop to pick things up. I nearly had a kinipshon right there on the spot, and the second they left I would put them back at exactly the right angle where they looked perfect as you walked in the door. I look back and wonder how I managed to get from there to where I am now............ and marvel that the freedom I always wanted is right where I am now - with no longing for the things I used to treasure and just this peace and dare I say it anticipation for what the next stage of life will hold. I even had to let go of wanting to stay in my current home this last year. I love it dearly and could never have envisioned being able to let go of it without pain. I came to that place finally, and then mirculously I did not have to. God, or the Universe, whatever your individual Higher Power is seems to have one desire and that is to set us free from these earthly attachments. I do still have one and that is that I do not want to have to live in a home. I would like to pass on peacefully in my own bed. But that I just have to leave in my Creator's hands and I know that if I do have to go into a home He/It will be with me every step of the way. These days the only things I pray for are wisdom, compassion and forgiveness for all mankind including myself.
Love to you Wispy.

Wispy I think you're inspirational also. Amanda's post and blog about her friend, also made me think. That's why I have getting finances in order and downsizing as my goal for next year. I was a collector and now I wonder who I was collecting for. I don't have children. Nieces and nephews don't appreciate the value (not monetary value) of antiques. What a waste of time and money, but then I remember how much pleasure they gave me at the time. Now that time has past, and it's time to get rid of everything non essential. I have to do it in order to move near my brother where it's warmer; now, while I can still enjoy it.
I have been guilty of procrastination, but as you both have so aptly suggested - Carpe Diem!

Well I guess at my age and in my current circumstances - I think it comes when one finally reaslises ones own mortality I live in the day. I do whatever needs doing as soon as it comes up and all my affairs are in order. Of course it was not always so, I was a procrastinator. The more I have simplified my life and let go of stuff the easier things have become. I can hardly believe its me writing this. It was your question that really made me realise that I have made my amends and forgiven all as far as I am aware. The kids know all my details for when I pass on. I tell everyone I love as often as possible how much I love them. I own nothing except what is my home and this Christmas I had the joy of giving my grand daguhters things they have loved for years. I am so happy to have been able to do this while I am alive and they were so delighted I cant even begin to tell you.
Love to you all. Wispy.

An accountability thread sounds good to me!!
1. Get serious about selling rental property - entails finding a realtor and fixing things up 2. Downsize and get finances in order - no unnecessary spending i.e. save more $$ and pay more monthly on credit cards, learn how to sell on Ebay or sell items at antique mall. 3. Exercise at least 4x/week

In keeping with the theme of my blog, what have you been putting off that it's time to start doing something about? 1. Getting rid of all this clutter, and organizing my home and life!!! 2. Pursuing a job transfer down to the Olympia/Tumwater area. 3. Planning more vacations, outings, festival going & linking with friends.
If anyone wants to get serious with me about working on our 3 things, we could start a Progress thread to be accountable for taking steps, however small, on a regular (weekly) basis to start to realize these goals.

Good question, Gabby, though I only have one definite answer: A good-sized painting of Yosemite Valley at sunrise in winter that is stunning and expensive (to me). I bought it on lay away during my first year of sobriety. I figured the money I used to spend on wine helped me pay for it. It is a view that I think is one of the most spectacular ones on the planet.

O Gabby what an enchanting idea. Yes it would make a lovely story - with pictures as well.
They were a pair of small black bantams, cant remember what the breed was called now, but they had feathers that went right down to their feet and they are quite small even for bantams. They were like balls of black fluff - and the babies............ well :o)

Wispy - Bertie & Bessie sound like they would make a good children's story. Picturing that is so comical!
Oh so agreeing on talk radio - just cant stand it. Guess I just like music as a background to what I am doing. Love eastern music of all kinds.
3 material things.... um I have to think about that.
1. The computer - being mostly housebound - it is my only link with the outside world most of the time and with Skype I can see and talk to whoever I want all over the world.
2. My bed. The most relaxing and comfortable place where I work, play and sleep most of the time. (I guess this isnt really material).
I dont really have much attachment to specific things these days although I have many mementos scattered all over the house and all have happy memories, I couldnt really single one out that is special.... maybe if I did it would be a photograph taken of a dear friend of mine who has since passed on and it is of her hand feeding my pair of bantams Bertie and Bessie who laid their eggs one time in my arm chair, and I let her hatch them there. He came and slept beside her every night. They were inseparable and the chicks thought the living room was home. :o)
3. Flowers, flowers and more flowers, trees and birds.

I can't stand talk radio either but that's all my DH listens to so we compromise when he's in the car and have the sports one on rather than the political one because there are very few call ins. I hate reality TV also although he got me watching something where people bid on storage lockers. I want to know where they sell all the stuff they acquire though!
NEW QUESTION: What 3 Material things do you treasure the most?
1. a rope tied into a knot that the person who married us gave us during our wedding ceremony as a reminder that we're stronger together. 2. A ceramic Lladro figurine of a Bluebird that was the first thing I bought after my 1st marriage ended when I was 27 years old. I call it my Bluebird of Happiness. 3. A glass footed compote bowl that belonged to my great grandmother

I mostly listen to CDs--Christmas now, often transformational. I'm listening to an all-Christmas music station now (Warm 106.9), usually have my classical station set--especially since it went to listener supported--no more commercials!
That's all these days. I do enjoy oldies, some country. Can't stand talk radio.

At work, I listen to a radio station that plays all Christmas music (and has since Thanksgiving). One of the pieces I've been enjoying very much is by the Transiberian Orchestra (I just found out today), the Christmas Canon--a version of the lovely Pachelbel's Canon.

Well mine is back today. lol. I have a loudhailer thing on the front of my puter and when the sound is off it has a red bar across it. For me its usually that one of the plugs at the back has come slightly unplugged. So pleased its working again. I like listening to music while I work and play on line.

Transaberian Orchestra sounds interesting and different Gabby. I must check them out. Currently sound is not working on computer. Not sure why Ive tried re plugging all the wires, but nada, zilch.

Sorry, I don't have a sweet tooth, I don't know cookies by name, nor have I baked in years! Favorite sweets would be 1. Coconut cream pie 2. Starbucks has a seasonal treat--Cranberry bliss bars? 3. Sees makes some nice truffles--OK in small quantities
Favorite Christmas albums? 1. Kenny Rogers' first, with a great version of O Holy NIght, a heart-breaking song about an out of work dad who can't buys gifts for his kids, (Homemade Christmas in Kentucky?), and the sublime When a Child Is Born, that never fails to choke me up 2. The Carpenters 3. John Denver and the Muppets from a TV special many years ago--sweet & funny

oh yes, I love the music too Amanda, and the stories and pictures, especially the olde worlde ones. The decorated shops and houses the toy departments of big stores, thinking back to older days here when I lived in London. Now that I play games on line, I buy the Christmas ones. Got one yesterdy from BF. Christmas in Wonderland. A kids game I guess, but all my Inner Ones and myself just love it. I couldnt stop playing last night till way past my bedtime. :o)

Favorite things about this holiday season. Can be anything - food, movies, special dinners, etc.
1. The smells - pine, spices like ginger and cinnamon 2. As much as I hate snow I like it for 2 weeks. I love looking out the window and seeing all the trees and everything covered like a winter wonderland (as long as I don't have to drive in it!) 3. Pulling a Scrooge marathon and watching all the versions
Something new Ive just discovered I like is rap with the melody bits in it. Dont know what you call that. Fusion perhaps. Some of it I find very pleasing.

Sounds all good to me too. I think we would just survive fine.
Now all we need is a third person who is into eggs, flour and milk and we could live well for always. :o)

As far as food groups: 1. I love my veggies--raw and cooked, tossed in with many other things. 2. I love seafood, especially shellfish--scallops, prawns, clams (in that order), though lobster is just OK, and I don't care for oysters. Salmon is one of my favorite fish, though I don't eat a lot of fish 3. I love my seasonings, especially garlic (which I scoop from a BIG jar of chopped garlic by the HEAPING spoonful into most everything I cook) and basil--fresh or dried, fresh parsley, shredded parmesan--which gets sprinkled on most hot things I make at home.
