We have a pool and Coco will go swimming with us a few times each season. He likes to sit on rafts and stay dry most of the time. But he wears a life jacket for when he decides it's time to get off the raft and cool off. He's so cute swimming along in the pool. My sister and bro-in-law will come over and bring Leela, a Chihuahua, and she will also get in the pool and swim. She swims side to side to side to side. She doesn't stop often. Every now and again she dips her head in the water, we haven't figured out why yet unless she's looking for the ground....LOL.

Hi Allison! Izzy is adorable and I loved the beach story. Mine won't have anything to do with the water even though she is fascinated by it.

I have a 10 month old pug, named Izzy. She's quite the crazy girl and I found out she loves water when she jumped in the shower with me for the first time a few months ago. Since then, she jumps in with me often and while she's there I give her a bath, and she is the happiest girl in the world.

A few days ago, we finally had some really nice beach weather, so my mom & I decided we would take Izzy to the beach to play. She was all excited, running around and playing the sand, digging up shells, and running towards the water. I figured she would have jumped right in, but she kind of nervously put her two front feet in and looked at me like she was scared. The beach we went to didn't have very big waves because it was part of an intertidal zone, but I think they still made her nervous.

Yeah, she wasn't nervous anymore once she saw me step right in! She ran up to me, splashing and playing. It was so cute. Then when I went a little deeper, she stopped. She had never been swimming before! So I went over and picked her up under her armpits and sort of held her out so she wouldn't get me wet. That's when she started paddling her feet - she wasn't even in the water yet! It's seriously one of the cutest things she ever done. I was impressed when I put her in the water she could swim :o)

That's ok - you were her spring board getting her out of a bad situation and into another home. That makes you her hero. Everything happens for a reason.

I have some bad news. We rescued Kia from a breeder that was going to put her down because he couldn't get full price out of her. Well, she wouldn't quit tormenting Coco and they were getting into some serious fights. We had to give her away. The good news is that she went to a really good friend of ours that has a blue pug named Talon and now they have Kia. It is not a coincidence that they are both named after cars. Britnee, my friend's little gril has named all 3 dogs-Coco included. I don't know how Coco escaped the car thing. LOL They all have middle names; Coco's is Kai, Talon's is Frank, Kia's is Kaitlyn (after Britnee). Kia is having fun with Britnee as she did whenever Brit would come here on the weekends to play with Coco and Kia. She's 6 and thinks that the reason we gave Kia to them was for HER birthday......LOL. Kia and Talon get along really well. I think that the problem was that Coco was already the dominant dog here and Kia has a personality that makes her want to be dominant also. With Talon, she is head of the house. He's such a sweet pug. We do have visitation rights with Kia.....LOL. Brit was here yesterday to see Coco, she doesn't forget anyone, and asked if I could start coming up there on the weekends with Coco so that the 3 of them could play together. How can you turn down a beautiful, loving, innocent 6 year old? I cried the night I had to take Kia up there but I know it is for the best. Kia was made to be rescued but not by us. I am glad I was able to give her a home for a short period of time and now she has a forever home with Julie, Britnee, Ben, Cheyennia and Talon.

Sierra hates to get wet as well. There other 2 plow right through puddles but she keeps a wide berth or else talks me into carrying her. She can be remarkably persuasive.

That story is too cute. It is a totally pug thing to do. They are such comics, I can picture in the middle of that puddle with his look of astonishment. Who needs comic relief with pugs around. I am so proud of my rescue Sierra. She joined our family in March and was afraid to even go outside (puppy mill that was closed by the state). I would have to catch her to go for a walk. Now she is acting like a maniac like the rest of them when it is walk time. She also sat out in the yard for practically an hour today. I kept checking to see if she wanted in and it was just like no thanks Mom I'm having a good time out here.

I have a good story from yesterday. Where I walk the pugs, it's provincial park, just across the road from us. We follow a dirt road to a cement bridge. Sometimes we go over it, sometimes it's the point where we turn back. The dirt road, with all the rain we've had, had a puddle 8 feet wide and 3 inches deep in the centre, with only a little narrow patch on either side to pass by. Next to the dirt road is a fairly steep grassy rise. Both pugs got to the puddle and make a hard right to go up the grassy rise.

No, boys, not today, it's raining and I'm not climbing that hill. Come on back down. Moose, the older smarter pug, came down the hill and made a fast right turn at the puddle to follow the narrow patch. Pug #2, Marty, came down the hill and decided he could jump, and clear, the 8 foot puddle. Except his jet pack failed to fire, and he landed with a huge splash right in the middle of the puddle. He stopped dead and lifted one front foot in the air. As if to say "THIS one can't get wet". In the next second he realized that the other 3 legs were going to have to get into the game if he was to get out of the puddle.

I laughed for the rest of the walk. Good thing pugs don't mind being laughed at.

Do, or do not. There is no 'try'.

Love the story about your little she devil Sophie BratKat. I have a black pug named Panzer and he does exactly the same thing. To funny I guess they can only be nice and mellow for so long.

Hi everyone!
How is everyone's pug these days? I have two pugs, Mimi and Maxi. Mimi is 4 yrs and Maxi is 2. Maxi is my devil dog. she waits constantly for me to drop something so she can get it and run under my bed with it. I have a yardstick I use to poke her under my bed.
I bring my pugs to work with me everyday. I let them out now and then but not much for them to do and the little pugs gets bored and gets into things. all I have to do is put my hand on the treat bag and they are both back in their cage.
I love my pugs! Hugs,Lynn

Our black pug, Sophie, seems to have an alternate personality. We call it the "Tasmanian Pug-Devil", and we can always tell by the look on her face when the Pug-Devil is coming to visit. She stands very still, her ears go back, she sets her head a certain way, and her buggy eyes get even bigger. Then she races like mad all around the house, first going on way then stopping and racing as fast as she can the other way. Then she 'attacks' our other dog, Sheba, a Keeshond who is twice the pug's size, and acts like she's going to gobble her up! Sheba tolerates it like a big sister who is totally exasperated by this little crazy sibling, but unable to stop the attack. After we're all in tears from laughing so hard, Sophie's demeanor changes back into the sweet loving little puggy that likes to cuddle and get belly rubs. The Pug-Devil comes out at least once a week, maybe just to burn off some excess energy.. Love my pug!!!

Pugs are so caring and loyal dogs. I love it when they snuggle in the bed with you, and snore! I'm use to it, it doesn't keep me up at night! I agree with you JAZZYDOC, there should be an emoticon for a pug! PUG LOVE! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I love my Deucey and Tracey so very much. Tracey was born on Sept 11, 2001, was rescued from a breeding farm that was closed down. She was sickly and underweight and now is healthy and is one of my best friends. This past week I was feeling blue and she and Deucey seemed to know when I'm feeling bad and gave me loving like only a pug can do. I'm trying to scan some photos into my computer. I'll just have to take some new ones and I'll post them.

Here's to Pug Love! I wish there was a pug emoticon

I'm taking my boys to the town's Halloween party. Of course I'm bringing my pugs dressed up as pumpkins! I don't usually dress them up ,but this is a special occasion. They might not keep the costumes on for long! Well Happy Halloween!!! emoticon

OMG-THAT WAS HILARIOUS!!!! Our two pugs are very well trained to go to their kennels when we all leave for work. one day, I didn't have to go to work, but I had to take the kids to school. my husband knew I was coming right back, so he left them out. when I got home, there they were, both of them in their own kennel with the doors open!!!

A couple days ago I closed the door with the screen closed. My husband went to let them out and because it was dark, he didn't notice the screen was closed. So he tells them to sit, opens the door, and says "Go!" The poor little guys ran hell bent for the screen and bounced back. I felt bad but I also couldn't stop laughing.

They haven't forgiven us yet. Ever since they've paused before going outside when we tell them it's ok. On the plus side, I'm unlikely to forget to leave the screen open when I close the door ever again.

We had new door screens installed in our house last week, just in time for winter, right? They are called Phantom Screens and basically slide across a track or roll up like window shades. My husband was sitting in his basement office and we had a warm up yesterday so he opened the garage and basement doors and closed the screen. It was still cool so the door wasn't wide open.

The Pugs started doing their little dance and drew my husband's attention. He saw them nose open the door until it was wide enough for them to get through, then they make a mad dash for the light, only to bounce off the new screen. I guess it's going to take them a while to get used to them.

I love my Pugs. They are endlessly entertaining.

My pugs name was Casey and I had to put him down 8 weeks ago. I struggle through each and every day. He was 14 years old and was my first baby. We had such a special relationship. He did everything with me. I miss him so much. Thanks so much for the pug lovers 4ever team because I love looking at all the pictures and remember all the great times I had with my Casey.

I don't have any pugs right now, but all I have to do is see one on a commercial or on the street or in a car and I scream with delight! My 7 year old son does it too! We scream "PUG!" Thats all we say... one big loud PUG.

Growing up, we always had a pug or two. My parents raised a few litters and only recently had to put the last one to sleep. She was old. So for about 35 years, I have been surrounded by pugs!

I love the way they are so kind and gentle. They understand so much about feelings and emotions. I love the 'cornchip' smell when they're sleeping. The soft and steady snore of deep sleep. The lapping little pink 'balogne' tongues. The gobs of eye boogers. The crease of their noses that need cleaned so often. The tight crimping curl of the tail. The straightness of it when the are scraping around all hyper and silly!

Oh, yes, I do miss my puggies! emoticon

In a nutshell, Phoebe makes us both laugh every single day. The latest thing to crack us up is we discovered we can sing her to sleep. Phoebe is a very active Pug (must be her Pekingese/Japanese Chin side). So, we love staying active with her, but she's a real charmer when she gets sleepy and relaxes so we can hold her (she's a wiggle-bug otherwise). When her eyes start looking sleepy, all we have to do from there is sing a lullaby and out she goes! Never mind how we look singing to our dog. LOL

Her vocabulary is getting huge. She knows so many words, I'm going to have to start writing them down to keep track. Her favorite word is rabbit. Anytime that word comes up in conversation she races to the slider barking and watching for rabbits. Lots of rabbit activity this time of year.

We have a lot of fun playing catch with her. She likes to jump on her hind legs and catch balls with her front paws and chest. She can stop a ball on a dime. She'd make a great soccer goalie!!
