Yes, when I used my sister's "tick key" on my mother's dog, there was a lot of blood. I think we got the whole tick but it was kind of messy. Last Fall, my little blind guy had a tick in his arm pit and I didn't have anything else, so I just sprayed the Off on a cotton ball and it worked like a charm. Unfortunately, it was too late. He got Lyme disese.

Kerstin - thanks for the DEET tip. I didn't know that. I've never had one lose its head, but I always get tense yanking them out with the hemostats. And the tick thing I used yesterday was very good, but it takes a moment to get twisting with the tool, and pugs wiggle. AND you have to have a container nearby or risk setting the lousy tick free to pillage again. Next time I'll try the DEET.

Do, or do not. There is no 'try'.

This thing looked a little like a needle threader with a wire loop that went around the tick. What I have found very easy is to spray some OFF(DEET) on a cotton ball and just hold the tick with that for a few seconds, 10-20 seconds, it kills the tick and it just slides out. If you just pull the tick out, it often leaves it's nasty litttle head. If it hasn't engorged yet, just yank the btard!

For the picnic, I am bringing lots of wine for mommy and guests, and a big watermelon carved basket of melon salad

I think so. It's got a slot you slide the tick sideways into and then spin it to twist the tick off. I usually use hemostats. Last night was the first time I used the tick remover.

I'll bring burgers and hot dogs to grill for us and to give as treats. Is that a "tick key" you are talking about? I used my sister's and it really works well
