I have four Pugs and they get 1/3 of a cup of Taste of the Wild dry food twice a day with a 1/2 of a teaspoon of Missing Link. In the morning they also get a dollop of plain, fat-free yogurt and canned pumpkin. At night I rotate between the canned Taste of the Wild proteins and they get a couple of tablespoons as a topper. They do get a few tiny training treats throughout the day, too.

Kona eats Nutro Lamb and Rice twice a day, a cup each time. I also mix Pet Kind lamb tripe in with their food, just a heaping tablespoon, as they love it. (I mix hers with Boomer the boxers food then scoop hers out of the larger bowl). emoticon

Gussy gets fed twice a day....around 8:30 a.m. and again around 5:00 p.m....he gets 1 cup of dry dog food/kibble and a couple of tablespoons of canned dog food. He's 7 1/2 years old. He's not super active (we live in a condo), so to keep his weigh down, we use senior formula foods. Also, for treats/snacks, he gets carrots. We "try" not to give him extra food, as we want him to stay lean and healthy and be with us a LONG time!

We have 2 Pugs and both are the biggest moochers on the face of the planet! They will stare you down until they get a taste of whatever it is you might have on your plate. Terrible manners! Pumpkin will bat her food dish around when she thinks its time to eat. Once she even carried the bowl into the other room to me...HINT, HINT!! emoticon
Each of our Pugs gets about 2/3 cupful of dry dog food in the a.m. Usually, the bigger one (Pumpkin, who weighs about 21 lbs.) will eat her food all at once right away. Holly (about 18 lbs) waits till later in the morning to eat, for some reason.

My Sophie doesn't know the meaning of full. If there is a lick of food left in her bowl she will find it. Several years go she had a stomach bug that also required meds. The vet also had me give her 1/2 of her food mixed w/white rice to make up the other 1/2 & to give her a couple of tablespoons of yogurt a day. Worked like a charm so I use that anytime she gets an upset tummy. She loves them both. A year or so ago she seemed to be having lots of "intestinal" issues so I switched her from Iams to Science Diet Sensitve Stomach & hasn't had 1 issue since. Other than rice & yogut she loves watermelon & will do ANYTHING for a carrot. She doesn't get much in the way of people food except those things; however she doesn't get much exercise either, especially in the summer (we live in central TX where we had more than 60 days of over 100 this year). I absoluely love that there's a pug group on here. Sophie is my baby!!

My 3 pugs do NOT have an off-switch when it comes to eating and, given the choice, would eat until they got sick, so free feeding is out of the question.
I feed them dry food-1/2 cup in the a.m. and 1/2 cup in the afternoon.
They get treats (Charlee Bears or similar) when they go out, etc.
They LOVE vegetables, so when I am cooking/chopping veggies, I will usually give them some as a treat, but we don't feed them "table scraps."
My pugs come in small (15 lbs), medium (18 lbs) and large (21-22 lbs), but none are fat and my "big boy" is all muscle. They also slim down a little in warmer weather when we go on longer walks.

That's so funny that they like their little dandelion treats! Pugs are such silly little puppies, aren't they?

My pugs free feed, and they are both completely healthy and a normal weight. I think that if you start them like that then they don't feel worried about where the next meal will come from and they end up grazing all day. Mine also get yummies, of course! cause they are spoiled little pugs.. they also love dandelions for some reason? Weird.. I looked it up and supposedly they aren't harmful to animals, they eat them when we are on walks, like they are candy!.. I know.. They're strange..

Hello,

I am so sorry to hear your bulldog has cancer! I hope they can help him with the meds you give him. Of course you have to give the pug some bread when the bulldog gets his pill. Thanks for your advise. :)

The only table food my dogs get are some apple peels on occasion and bits of bread. Our bulldog has cancer and he needs to take medicine several times a day. So I put the pills in bread when I give it to him. Then, of course, I have to give a tiny bit of bread to my pug too!

Our dogs food is available to them all day and they do fine with that. But every dog is different, and I know some dogs will eat too much if they can.

Sounds like you're taking the right steps to keeping your dogs healthy and fit!

Wow that is great that your pugs are so fit. I need to be more disciplined and not allow our puppies to be like that and therefore more healthy.

Do you put the food down and it is available all day or just certain times? I assume you do not give them table food. Is that right?

Thanks

I've heard that dogs will go to a carpeted area or a rug when they need to throw up because to them it is grasslike. I dont know if thats true or not but my dogs do the same thing. Always on a rug, never on the floor!

That's Jazzy exactly! She shallows it whole. She is like I am We Live to Eat instead of eating to live! I have lost 60 lbs but she hasn't lost an oz. Ha ha! she always hits the carpet too! Thank you, she is a mess! I love her too much!

DeltaDawn - Your Jasmine is so adorable! Maybe she throws up because she eats too fast. Mikey eats so fast that he doesn't even chew his food - he just swallows it whole and lets his tummy do the work. He is absolutely frantic when he eats like its the only 1/4 cup of kibble left on the planet. If his meals aren't on time - his panic frenzy rises and there is good chance of kibble-hurlage. (never on the tile - always the carpet)

Throwing up: She had a very bad bout one time and we were on the road (Full-time RVer) and he said it was some intestinal infection and he gave her meds. But she was really bad that time and never since except occassionally when she eats more table scraps. I just figured it was that... eating too much. I will call the vet and ask her next week. Thanks for asking.

Thats right about where my 2 year old Gary weighs. I feed him 1/4 can of Iams wet food mixed with Iams dry food in the morning and he has a bowl of Iams dry food available to him all day. Between my bulldog and my pug, they finish the bowl of dry by the end of the day.
Did you talk to your vet about the throwing up?

My pug, Jasmine but we call her Jazzy for short, eats constantly and weighs 20 lbs according to her Feb. dr. visit. She runs constantly when she is out and drinks water like there is no tomorrow. She will be 4 in Decemeber. She has trouble with her tummy because she eats so much she throws up. I give her table food except for chocolate, raisins, or grapes.
I fill the dogs bowl one time a day for 2 dogs and it is a small bowl.

I could never free feed Mikey - he would eat himself to death. Honestly - he would.

I feed him 1/4 cup of senior Canidae kibble in the morning and 1/4 cup in the evening. The 1/4 cup scoops are heaping.

He also gets about 8 to 10 Charlee Bears liver treats during the day. (3 calories each)

How much do your pugs eat?
